Liquorice is the food of the devil and it's slowly dying out as people come to their senses with regards to this disgusting black substance, which has clearly been pulled straight from Satan's bumhole

YABU - I am a weirdo who likes liquorice
YANBU - I am a normal person who agrees that whoever invented this stuff belongs in prison

I don’t mind the liquorice allsorts if they have other bits. Don’t like the spogs. That’s what I call the sweets in LAs with the blue or pink little balls.

Don’t like liquorice comforts - the sugar coated torpedo shaped.

As to aniseed flavour sweets or drinks - yuk!

im 43.

Hate the stuff but DP ( late 30s) and DSS (12) love it. They also like marmite so they clearly just have broken taste buds 🤣

Love Marmite, not overly fond of liquorice

ineedtostopbeingdramaticfirst · 27/04/2024 06:51

I'm 45 I don't like liquorice sticks (my mum loved them) I like liquorice all sorts though.

Remember aniseed balls? I loved them.

RobBeckettsGiantTeeth · 27/04/2024 07:14

A sweet that makes you shit. Mmmm, lovely!

Iknownothing · 27/04/2024 07:15

Liquorice is my secret weapon. In a family of gannets I’m the only one who likes it so I can buy loads of it and not have to share. (Mid forties btw)

Cocothecoconut · 27/04/2024 07:19

YABU
liquorice toffee is the absolute best
I don't buy it often as I eat it so quick

Elephantswillnever · 27/04/2024 07:21

I’m with you. I lived in the Netherlands for a while and people love it. It’s on a whole other level as well much stronger, some were even salty 🤯

ConfusedGin · 27/04/2024 07:22

YABVU. Love it and always have. Twists, allsorts, torpedoes, tea, salty...

But more for me, so wins all round, I guess.

Candleabra · 27/04/2024 07:22

i love liquorice but not on its own. Allsorts, flyers, sherbet fountains yum.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 27/04/2024 07:22

I'm under 50. I like it, it's not my first choice, but I sometimes crave a Sherbet Fountain or a Bassetti.

ImpishOrAdmirable · 27/04/2024 07:23

Disgusting stuff, ditto aniseed, fennel etc.

I’m over 50, as is DH who quite likes it. Not an age thing at all IMO.

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 27/04/2024 07:26

66 here and I absolutely love it.. it's great for some health benefits too like Esophageal spasms.. which l suffer.

Similar here. I love liquorice. My family is from Finland and like the Netherlands the sweetie isles have far more liquorice than chocolate.
And it's safe from my husband scoffing it all!
My mum and sister love it too though, I wonder if it's genetic or indoctrination?

Brendabigbaps · 27/04/2024 07:30

Love the stuff and I’m under 50. Even better if it’s in inter natural form. Chewy sticks of deliciousness

BouleDeSuif · 27/04/2024 07:32

Oh I love it. Age 42.

MrsClatterbuck · 27/04/2024 07:37

Love liquorice and so did my dad He gave it to his grandkids and they loved it as well.
I remember him buying it from the chemist and it was rock hard and being probably pure wasn't any way sweet. I just sucked it aa it came a bit like seaside rock sorry but memory is a bit hazy

Droolylabradors · 27/04/2024 07:38

LOVE liquorice to eat. HATE tea with the flavour of liquorice.

Why why why do they ruin so many lovely herbal teas with it?

Droolylabradors · 27/04/2024 07:39

Had a flatmate once who was Danish. He used to put liquorice sweets into vodka. It was sensational.

hornsofahugedilemma · 27/04/2024 07:46

I'm over 50 and really dislike it. My dad was the same, he used to call Pontefract cakes devil's droppings! My husband loves the stuff, and buys it safe in the knowledge it won't get nicked by me (see also cheese and onion crisps!)

SoupChicken · 27/04/2024 07:48

I’m under 50 and I like it, it’s not my favourite but I wouldn’t turn it down if offered some.

qpid5tunt · 27/04/2024 07:48

I used to love red liquorice. The proper stuff, not that soft strawberry shit that they pass off as liquorice today. Anyone else remember it? Haven't seen it in the shops since early 80's. I enjoy the odd panda bar liquorice but it doesn't like ME very much. 💩💩💩😂

DramaLlamaBangBang · 27/04/2024 07:51

I love it, and have an emergency supply of liquorice allsorts in my car!
DS 2 hates it. I can't even sneak anything remotely aniseedy into his food either as he can spot it a mile off!

Dacadactyl · 27/04/2024 07:53

Lol I'm 38 and love liquorice allsorts and those sherbet fountains with the liquorice stick.

My kids aged 17 and 12 are less keen but if that's all we had in, they'll eat it too.

Duckinglunacy · 27/04/2024 07:54

When we went to Norway my kids really wanted to try liquorice at the pic n mix. I warned them not pick out so much and to choose maybe one piece and some other things. They did not listen and then wanted to eat my chocolate covered foam bananas!

CornedBeef451 · 27/04/2024 07:55

I'm 47 and like it and so does my 12 year old DS!

DD (15) had her first cola cube the other day from a retro sweet table and was horrified by the sharp edges.

She ended up spitting it out discreetly and couldn't understand how they could have been a delicacy in my childhood.
