Liquorice is the food of the devil and it's slowly dying out as people come to their senses with regards to this disgusting black substance, which has clearly been pulled straight from Satan's bumhole

YABU - I am a weirdo who likes liquorice
YANBU - I am a normal person who agrees that whoever invented this stuff belongs in prison

I don’t mind it but will never have it again as it can cause high blood pressure

RiderOfTheBlue · 27/04/2024 11:47

I love me a blackcurrant & liquorice sweet, when I can find them.

Porridgeislife · 27/04/2024 11:49

Under 50 and love it. Like the salty Dutch kind, the soft Darrell Lea kind, liquorice all sorts, fennel seeds, liquorice tea you name it.

Porridgeislife · 27/04/2024 11:50

Oh and also liquorice confits - possibly my favourite sweet ever. Chocolate bullets too.

EBearhug · 27/04/2024 11:54

Coltsfoot rock (mentioned above) is fab.

loudbatperson · 27/04/2024 11:56

I adore liquorice and I am still a decade away from 50.

It's my favourite sweet treat.

loudbatperson · 27/04/2024 12:01

Ooooooo the talk of ice creams has reminded me of an ice-cream I used to adore.

It was from a stand in the Trocadero (my main teenage haunt, I can't believe it's gone). It was called tiger tail and was satsuma, vanilla and liquorice ice cream in a swirly pattern. I haven't seen anywhere else sell it but I would kill for some now.

LimeLime · 27/04/2024 12:08

I love liquorice so much that I have to be careful and ration it as a friend ended up in hospital with arrhythmia and sky high blood pressure after bingeing on liquorice and red wine, not her finest hour as she is a doctor and should have known better.

Godesstobe · 27/04/2024 12:23

I am 69 and I have always loathed licorice. Totally agree it is the devil's work.
I went to a friend's for dinner last year and they had cooked lamb with licorice. Why? I literally couldn't eat it - and I will normally eat anything, even tripe on one occasion, out of politeness. Everyone else loved it and asked for the recipe (!) so I wonder if it is one of those things that genuinely tastes different to different people if you have or don't have a certain gene (like coriander or the chemical PTC).

teraculum29 · 27/04/2024 12:27

i m under 50s, cant stand in any form, especially in herbal teas

Okayden · 27/04/2024 12:31

DS2 13 loves it. Particularly the salty one.

Now this something I never wanted to be in the same room as but give me rhubarb rock please! 😁 is it no longer a thing? 😐

EBearhug · 27/04/2024 13:25

I have never seen rhubarb rock, but it sounds good.

StormingNorman · 27/04/2024 13:28

45 years old. Liquorice pipes and Catherine Wheels are my faves.

PearTreeBoat · 27/04/2024 13:43

I'm 44 and absolutely love liquorice in all its forms!! We even used to eat liquorice root as kids but can't seem to find it anywhere now (our local chemist used to sell it in a jar beside the till).

Fifthtimelucky · 27/04/2024 13:48

Not at all convinced that she had any bearing on whether or not people like licorice.

I'm in my 60s and have always hated it (as have my siblings who are all in their 50s and 60s).

thevegetablesoup · 27/04/2024 13:52

I love it and I'm 40

Schoolchoicesucks · 27/04/2024 13:56

Yabu. 47 and I like it. Used to eat the wood-y liqorice as a kid. Now it's just pinching dh's allsorts at Christmas.

Ponoka7 · 27/04/2024 13:56

My GC's neighbour, in his then 70's, got them into it. They've given it out in the park etc. We could see a revival. I started eating it when I went temporarily vegan. It's usually vegan and often halal.

mrlistersgelfbride · 27/04/2024 13:58

YABU. I'm 39, like liquorice and am very weird- but for other reasons 🤣

Natsku · 27/04/2024 13:59

I love liquorice, though GF liquorice isn't as good as the proper kind as the texture isn't quite right.
I'm half Finnish though, a love of liquorice (particularly salmiakki - liquorice with ammonium chloride) is in our blood.

Lavendersquare · 27/04/2024 13:59

I was just about to shout out that I love liquorice until I realised I'm well into my 50's 🤦🏻‍♀️

SomethingIn · 27/04/2024 14:11

YANBU

It's rank I totally agree

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/04/2024 14:11

Sadly , Liquorice Allsorts aren't vegetarian (gelatin) so I'm now thinking about them. No clue how long ago I had these , must be over 44 years .

Hopper123 · 27/04/2024 14:18

I love it...especially the salty/chalky liquorice from Holland. I'm under 50
