Crying and walking out of hairdresser

Calmondeck · 26/04/2024 16:57

I don’t usually place much importance on haircuts but today’s was a big one. My first haircut post brain surgery. I was partially shaved for the operation so have rocked a very misshapen head for the past 8 months. Now I have multiple bolts holding my skull together, and I guess the psychological significance of getting to cut off all of this old hair that remains and starting afresh 8 months on felt big. I researched top hairdressers in my city and booked aiming to make it a special afternoon. I explained to them in advance the scaring and bolts issue. I arranged childcare.

After 4 hours, an hour of which was spent waiting for the hairdresser, and an hour waiting with wet hair while they forgot about me at the sinks… i just got quietly teary, realised I had to leave in order to cross the city and make it home to breastfeed my baby before bed…

now walking through the city with wet hair so disappointed. First world problems I know.

was I ABU for leaving?

I wouldn't have waited the hour to be seen OP, never mind sat at a sink for an hour!! The bloody cheek of them!

CoraPirbright · 26/04/2024 17:48

Oh OP! I am SO sorry. What utterly ghastly people!! I hope that, when you are feeling stronger, you shout this from the rooftops. They deserve to lose business over this.

dragonscannotswim · 26/04/2024 17:58

You poor love. They should have pulled out all the stops to make your cut and experience a good one because of your background.

Instead they were complete fickheads. I hope you didn't pay.

I'd email the manager and tell them exactly what went on. Shoddy behaviour.

I hope you're ok 💐

Bluebellsinthewind · 26/04/2024 18:00

What a bunch of unprofessional clowns.

Sorry you had a horrible experience op 💐

pearlevu · 26/04/2024 18:03

I'm so sorry this happened

hermitstyle · 26/04/2024 18:03

How huge was this salon that they were able to forget about a client or how fucking rude were they all to ignore you is what I’d like to know ??? I’m furious on your behalf you deserve to be treated so so much better than that OP.

I hope you’re ok now Flowers

Freakonaleash · 26/04/2024 18:05

They sound like absolute fucking morons.
YANBU.

PrincessTeaSet · 26/04/2024 18:06

Yanbu. Hope you didn't pay anything

duckcalledbill · 26/04/2024 18:07

They’re awful and totally to blame but at no point did you think to speak to anyone or get anyone’s attention and demand that you be attended to?

CormorantStrikesBack · 26/04/2024 18:08

Wow what awful service. Did you tell them you were going or just leave? Either way I don’t blame you. Was it general reviews which took you to them? Can you ask around for personal recommendations?

MigGirl · 26/04/2024 18:08

That is absolutely awful service. I hope you complained and didn't pay either.

I would recommend searching for a local small hairdressers one who's not on the main streets in town and is small. They mainly rely on repeat business so often have a better reputation asking on your local Facebook page is a good idea to.

Teddleshon · 26/04/2024 18:09

This is unbelievable and I’m so sorry it happened to you x

OhHelloMiss · 26/04/2024 18:09

They must have noticed you leaving?

ColourMeBlue · 26/04/2024 18:09

That's absolutely shocking.I understand you not saying anything.I hate any kind of confrontation. This was a huge thing for you today, and they bloody well should have made sure you had a thoroughly enjoyable and pampered day.

oakleaffy · 26/04/2024 18:10

@Calmondeck ThAt’s really appalling service.
Leave a review about how awful your experience was there.

Really hope you can find a more empathetic and caring hairdresser x👍

Londonrach1 · 26/04/2024 18:12

Thats awful. Did they cut the hair at all

Janetsmug · 26/04/2024 18:13

That's monumentally shit customer care at the best of times but I can totally understand how upsetting it must have been in your circumstances OP, I'm so sorry what should have been such a positive thing has been ruined for you. Not the same but I walked out of a hairdressers recently too, I'm autistic and hate salons/haircuts but my hair is badly thinning (thanks menopause!) and I needed some help with figuring out what the hell to do with it so it didn't look awful.

I spent months researching, posted on FB for recommendations and finally booked somewhere only to be left sitting there while the stylist firstly finished his knitting, then had a cigarette standing in the open doorway so the smoke blew back in and finally started cutting the hair of the lady who came in after me! I sat there getting more and more stressed and embarrassed (at being ignored) until I knew I was about to have a meltdown so I texted DH to ring me and faked an emergency phone call as an excuse to leave.

It really upset me and took me weeks to work up to trying again but I eventually managed to find a mobile hairdresser who sounded nice when I messaged her and turned out to be utterly fabulous. What I'm trying to say is please don't give up, there will be a hairdresser out there who would be really happy to give you exactly the experience you were looking for, that salon wasn't it and they don't deserve your custom Flowers

Gladespade · 26/04/2024 18:14

That’s awful. How are you feeling now?
i think somewhere local and friendly might be a better bet.

Barney16 · 26/04/2024 18:15

I booked at a very expensive hairdresser to cheer myself up after being poorly. On the way there I got a text to say my appointment time had been moved back twenty minutes. When I got there I waited another hour because "we are really busy today" I did get my hair cut and then when I was paying there was a lot of fuss, oh don't you look great, hasn't he cut it beautifully. I just said well it's not the worst haircut ever but I won't be back. But that paled into insignificance compared with my first post COVID haircut where I asked for a short bob and got a MULLET. They were quite busy too...

Igmum · 26/04/2024 18:16

Well that's grim. YADNBU. Sending hugs. I think you deserve gin, chocolates and a naice hot bath tonight. I'd write them an honest review online. Bet they fall over themselves to apologise

JammyJellyfish · 26/04/2024 18:21

Hairdressers can be absolutely rubbish at customer service-size of salon rarely makes a difference. These days if I had to wait more than 15 mins I usually walk off saying you are obviously too busy to honour this appointment. Current hairdresser is actually very good which is why I stick with them.

seriously hope you did not pay them anything. I would also be writing an accurate review on their sm. only way to get through to them these days. There are good ones out there- maybe try a recommendation?

ElsieMc · 26/04/2024 18:22

Wow op. You don't say where you are but if you did, perhaps some kind and lovely salon may offer to do it for you and show you some professionalism, kindness and decency. They were not the hairdressers for you so perhaps it's just as well they did not get to cut your hair.

I moved to a mobile hairdresser after my post covid haircut made me look like Edmund Blackadder with the high fringe and pageboy style cut. Even that was longer on one side than the other. My grandkids all burst out laughing.

MrsMitford3 · 26/04/2024 18:22

Oh @Calmondeck

That is appalling. I hope you didn't pay.

I think you should name and shame.

I am furious on your behalf. It was terrible service-very callous and uncaring when you were vulnerable and needed a bit of nurturing care.

Give them feedback-they should be ashamed (but they probably won't be based on your experience)

JoJothegerbil · 26/04/2024 18:57

That's appalling OP. I hope you didn't pay.
