Accidentally stirred the pot and don’t know how to make things right

Friend 1 messaged me a couple of weeks ago something she shouldn’t have commented on about Friend 2. Something she know Friend 2 wouldn’t of liked.

I have been having a long chat with Friend 2 and stupidly said Friend 1 had been chatting to me about that last week. She then wants the whole details, I feel awful and send her our messages as she wanted to know and now she is raging with Friend 1.

I feel like a total idiot and stirred the pot. Now I feel like they are going to fall out because of me, and that Friend 1 is going to fall out with me because I sent our texts to Friend 2.

What have I done! Why did I do this! Someone help me rectify this please

Thank you for everyone’s responses! I haven’t read them all.

Friend 2 has kicked her long term partner out for a new love (her long term partner wasn’t nice…), we were chatting and she said Friend 1 didn’t seem impressed at how fast she was moving, I just said she doesn’t want you getting hurt and wants you to make sure you don’t rush anything and she asked if Friend 1 had been texting behind her back.

I sent our convo to prove to Friend 2 that friend 1 wasn’t being nasty, just genuinely worried for Friend 2.

The texts were nothing but worry, no slagging off which is why I sent to friend 2 so she didn’t think myself and friend 1 were being rude behind her back!

Maybe it was my wording but I think a lot of the comments on here assumed I was sending nasty messages around or something and that I’m the worlds worst friend and they both hate me. Just to clarify, this isn’t the case and we’re going for lunch tomorrow!

I thought I did the wrong thing sharing our texts, but both friend 1 and 2 agreed the day after that the texts helped explain the situation and friend 2 is now happy that friend 1 genuinely worries for her and we are all good

You made yourself sound really bad in your OP.

Why would you do that?!

I have anxiety and I panicked. I think that’s why I sounded horrendous in my OP. Now I realise it wasn’t actually as bad.

however it does make me realise how awful some commenters can be!

Oh well, all's well that ends well. Enjoy the lunch!

PenguinLord · 30/04/2024 14:37

I think regardless you should have asked the other friend if you can share her messages. it should have been her decision, not yours. And the other friend sounds very insecure, why would you need to see people's private comments about you to prove anything, sounds like hard work and pretty toxic.

All's well that ends well, I suppose, but for future reference it's really unacceptable to share someone else's private messages (even if they are saying something nice) and if nothing else I hope you've learnt this from the whole experience.

Your wording was clearly deceptive and probably by design. Do you love drama? You and your friends are most likely having a good laugh reading the responses.

No I don’t, it’s not like me to have this situation. I felt like a right tw*t for putting my foot (and friends 1) foot in it that I sent the screen shots like a look she said nothing bad! And realised afterwards it was the wrong thing.

I struggle bad with anxiety. Which is why I catastrophised the issue .

anyway not replying anymore x

Absolutely agree and definitely a lesson learned

OP, kudos for coming back to this thread, it was very brave.

GreyCarpet · 30/04/2024 16:39

Great update, OP. Lesson learned, which is all we can hope for in life!

@pleasehelpagirlout62 I just wanted to apologise for my comment, it was written badly. I am glad it is all resolved.
