Abhorrent comments made about a persons height

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 25/04/2024 09:30

Calling someone who is below the average height, "pint-sized" is abhorrent
at the very least. A person's height is beyond the person's control and calling them "pint-sized," some may even say it's an ableist comment

Yesterday, during the PMQ's the lead was taken by the deputy heads of both Tories and Labour. Standing in for the Labour leader was Angela Rayner. She called the Tory leader, Rishi Sunak a "pint-sized leader" when she was losing the arugument

This reminds me of clowns at work who had nicknames for other people who did not fit in with their agenda. Often people will make disparaging comments about another when they feel threatened because of their own inadequacies.
Should she apologise for making these disgusting comments?

AIBU to believe these comments were necessary, inappropriate and disgustingly abhorrent.

Angela Rayner aims ‘pint-sized loser’ jibe at Rishi Sunak during PMQs

Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden countered the criticism by mocking the Labour deputy over her housing arrangements.

I think Dorries is a prat as well so that swipe is irrelevant.

Agree Dorries is an idiot. That is the point. You see Ange...oh never mind.

BubblegumBlue24 · 25/04/2024 12:17

Are we going to have to suffer these propaganda posts on repeat until the election now?

All politicians say shit like this all the time while being grossly overpaid to have slanging matches or fall asleep in parliament. What’s new?

Kendodd · 25/04/2024 12:17

randomchap · 25/04/2024 09:39

She was quoting from Nadine Dorres book apparently

I thought it was a bit below the belt, then I learnt this. I now think it was quite clever.

AGlinnerOfHope · 25/04/2024 12:19

That’s not exactly parliamentary behaviour. What a shower we have fallen to. Honourable member my foot.

It is pretty minor compared to the un-Parliamentary behaviour of the Tories. Illegally proroguing Parliament springs to mind.

Dontcallmescarface · 25/04/2024 12:23

So how do you feel about Nadine Dorres calling him the same thing then? Or is it just Angela Rayner you have an issue with?

HauntedBungalow · 25/04/2024 12:24

He is a v tiny person so she is not wrong.

Clowns calling other clowns names isn’t something I can get worked up about to be perfectly honest.

This.

I know I'm dealing with someone who's resorted to gifs here, but the thread is about Rayner. That is what prompted me to point out that Rayner is an overly elevated prat that nobody would think was clever were she not occupying a position of (vague) power.

This does not mean, that I am incapable of identifying other overly elevated prats when they are introduced into the discussion, hence my response to the BoJo query, and subsequently the aha! "but Dorries" attempt.

Im going to say this slowly so that it sinks in, thinking Rayner is a crass prat, doesn't mean that I like the Tories, who are also weapons grade bellends.

Therefore, your "point" is not a good one.

Most on here are missing that the Pint sized wanker was called pint sized by mad Nads first.

Not at all, just pointing out that her position elevates her and her behaviour, which is basic, to the point that some people find it admirable.
The fact is, that if she didn't have her position, she wouldn't get anybody fawning at her "wit" for calling somebody pint sized.

..and how did she get to that position? if it was about getting power, she'd have become a Tory.

Unlike you, i think anyone, regardless of party, who has his or her start in life and educates themselves and rises to the level of shadow deputy deserves respect.

PMQs is theatre, getting the headlines, she has done that, doubtless riled Sunak and by the looks of it, many other Tories too.

Were you affronted about the comments about Starmer's weight? Or the allegations about Rayner crossing her legs (how very dare she.) Politicians generally give as good as they get and if they can't they are probably in the wrong job.

Both of those can be changed. Height can't and it should be a protected characteristic.

WarshipRocinante · 25/04/2024 09:43

But they’ve spoken like that in the House of Commons for hundreds of years. Insults have always been thrown, little digs and comments to try and get a laugh at the expense of the MPs on the other side. The House of Commons is not the place to look for integrity or moral behaviour. It’s always been like that, followed by the ridiculous jeering from the rest of the gaggle.

Just because that sort of thing has happened in the past it doesn't mean the same behaviour shouldn't be called out now. It's not acceptable, like a lot of the childish behaviour that happens in the Commons.

Can you imagine calling someone pint sized at work? It's inconceivable.

JessS1990 · 25/04/2024 12:32

They are all out and about today.

Not sure they've ever behaved that honourably but the current lot are the worst. Very closely followed by the 2015/7-2019 lot.

parkrun500club · 25/04/2024 12:31

Actually the Tory's policy of creating and perpetuating a cost of living crisis is leading to increasing numbers of children having stunted growth.
Many young people now will be shorter than their parents, perhaps also shorter than the PM.

Perhaps is that Sunak's logic for these policies?

I saw the play Nye the other night. Can you imagine what MN would have said when that appalling over elevated working class prat called the Tories vermin? 😭

It's such a shame the Labour front bench are such a poor bunch of politicians. The country is crying out for a new government, it should be an open goal for Starmer. Instead, I see no manifesto, a lack lustre leader and a front bench stuffed full of forgettable names and faces. Rayner is no stateswoman. I want to see leadership, competence and professionalism in my elected representatives. Not behaviour more akin to a school playground.

This “no manifesto” thing is regularly mentioned - manifestos are never published this far out from an election, they need to keep their powder dry!

Actually I quite like the idea. I could sue Sainsbury's for placing goods out of reach of pint-sized people like me.

Bet you weren't bothered about Boris and the 'post box' niqab comments though, were you hun!!

Also, referring to leading female MPs as 'thick', as many of you have here, is WAY more offensive than her referring to Sunak as pint-sized.

I'd also wager that some of you speak of her this way because of her accent, which is a whole new level of twattery.
