aibu not shaving my legs

hairybeary · 01/04/2008 10:58

tis is causing a bit of friction (excuse the pun) between me and dh.

i really cant be bothered doing it, its the winter and i am living in jeans, when the summer comes round and i am in crops etc i will start doing it again then.

last night i had my legs streched out on the couch and he made a really childish comment about it, basically along the lines of he thinks its horrible and wants me to wear socks (in my own f**king house)

to be honest it was more the childish way he put it that pissed me right of, had he said it in a joking way i possibly would have toddled of upstairs and got a razor out.

this is the same man who finds periods yucky and wont ever let his dc see him without having at least shorts on, he has a very childish view about a lot of things.

anyway once we went to bed last night he made a move and i said no-way, if my legs were that horrible then why on earth would he want to have sex with me.

aibu about this? do you always have your legs done? i shave under my arms every few days but thats because i am terrified of having b.o. i would leave them in the winter as well if i could.

btw my legs are not even that bad, i have fair hair so its only some dark hair around my ankles that are noticable, above that you cant see anything.

I get waxed cos I really can't be arsed with the shaving thing (and I have dark hair so it's visible within hours). It's true though that a good waxer makes it not very painful (having once come away with a bruised bikini line and watering eyes after a baaaaad one).

Not convinced about the claims that waxing damages the root and weakens the hair thereby making you less hairy - am still the hairiest woman in McHairyville.

A friend of mine lets her legs 'lie fallow' in the winter. Very sensible I think.

FrannyandZooey · 01/04/2008 18:39

I like feeling attractive, but I don't feel the need to remove all my body hair in order to accomplish it

HTH

Mumcentreplus · 01/04/2008 18:39

Plumey I'm with you there!...not into thw waxin business

I suppose it does hurt at the beginning, dittany. I can't honestly remember because it was so long ago.

Now, it no longer hurts.

But waxing does damage the hair follicles after a while.

melpomene · 01/04/2008 18:43

YANBU

I agree with dizietsma and nomdeplume. I get itching and rashes after shaving or Immacking, and don't exactly feel very sexy when I'm scratching away at itchy, stubbly and sometimes even bleeding legs. I'd rather have healthy skin with a bit of natural hair on it.

Saveme, here's a part of the MN statement, you may wish to reread it:
'Having said that, we will remove postings that are obscene, contain personal attacks or break the law. Please do bear in mind that we all know how difficult this parenting business can be, and if there's one thing all of us could do with, it's some moral support.'

In the future, I'd avoid mentioning posters by name before you attack them personally.

It's not on here.

FYI.

mrsruffallo · 01/04/2008 18:53

Wow, I don't relate to this at all.
I have never shaved my legs or under arm hair.
I don't understand what's so great about shaving off all your body hair.
Why?
I still feel attractive btw

Saveme · 01/04/2008 18:54

Oh lighten up expat. The stick-in-the-arse remark is light-hearted banter because you just come across as as a little bit pompous.

I'm so sorry if that offends you though.

expatinscotland · 01/04/2008 18:58

, Saveme.

LOL @ lighten up.

The ol' 'It was just a joke haahaa' ploy.

Soooooo clever.

When you swear at people online whom you don't know, it's generally seen as offensive. There are emoticons like winks or devil smileys here that people often use to convey that they are joking or tongue in cheek.

So no, I don't buy it that you were joking.

Or why you singled me out out for attack when other people have written flat out statements that they find unshaven women unattractive entirely.

WallOfSilence · 01/04/2008 18:58

YABU.

What if you fell & broke your leg & someone at the hopsital had to touch your fur covered limb?

Saveme · 01/04/2008 18:59

Diddums.

mrsruffallo · 01/04/2008 18:59

I would really like to understand why hairy=unattractive

expatinscotland · 01/04/2008 19:00

Nice try, Saveme.

Keep going. You're on a roll here!

WallOfSilence · 01/04/2008 19:01

Saveme... do you have a problem?

It seems to me that you singled out expat.

Was it for this comment? "i don't see where it is difficult to shave your legs whilst pregnant." As you seem to have taken it personally.

CoteDAzur · 01/04/2008 19:01

dittany - It is very painful when you are waxing hair that has recently been shaved. Hair gets soft and somehow has weaker roots when it's waxed, so further waxing is not so painful. Seriously.

I have been waxing since I was in my early teens, and the only time it has really been painful on my legs was (1) when the wax was super hot (this is why I prefer to do it myself), and (2) when I had shaved before.

expatinscotland · 01/04/2008 19:03

Pay no mind, WoS. What cannot be cured must be endured.

mrsjethrogibbs · 01/04/2008 19:04

YANBU how rude of him to comment on your body like that.
Dh occasionally jokes about it but he doesnt insist I shave or anything.
Silly man

Mumcentreplus · 01/04/2008 19:05

Surely the hair-less should stick together..lol..I see in growing...I mean fighting

DrNortherner · 01/04/2008 19:07

Dh is a prick if yuo ask me. I am often lax about shaving my legs in winter and dh would never comment.

He does however, make a joke if my fanjo becomes rather jungle-esque!

Ineedacleaner · 01/04/2008 19:09

Well I was a waxing virgin until recently and have to say it doesn't hurt really if done properly. If you or the person doing it rips the srip off straight up into the air then it bloody hurts but if you pull up the length of the leg keeping the srtip almost doubled back on itself and close to the leg it doesn't hurt as much.
I am converted cause shaving makes me itch and creams are a PITA.

I have to say though it has surprised me the number of people who thinks the OP is unreasonable. If this was any other thing regarding her own body that her dh was trying to get her to do if she didn't want to there would be outcry at what a pig he was.

francagoestohollywood · 01/04/2008 19:12

"I would really like to understand why hairy=unattractive".

well, I think it depends. I find that most English women aren't hairy at all, or at least not to my standards]. It's usually very thin, even blond hair. I wouldn't shave/wax in that case.
But I'm Italian and my legs look like those of a man if I don't wax regularly . I really don't feel attractive if I don't wax often. Luckily never heard a bad comment from dh and previous partners about my hairiness.

mrsruffallo · 01/04/2008 19:16

No, I have never had any complaints. I am fair and have fair soft hair so maybe that is why I have never felt the need to shave
