aibu not shaving my legs

hairybeary · 01/04/2008 10:58

tis is causing a bit of friction (excuse the pun) between me and dh.

i really cant be bothered doing it, its the winter and i am living in jeans, when the summer comes round and i am in crops etc i will start doing it again then.

last night i had my legs streched out on the couch and he made a really childish comment about it, basically along the lines of he thinks its horrible and wants me to wear socks (in my own f**king house)

to be honest it was more the childish way he put it that pissed me right of, had he said it in a joking way i possibly would have toddled of upstairs and got a razor out.

this is the same man who finds periods yucky and wont ever let his dc see him without having at least shorts on, he has a very childish view about a lot of things.

anyway once we went to bed last night he made a move and i said no-way, if my legs were that horrible then why on earth would he want to have sex with me.

aibu about this? do you always have your legs done? i shave under my arms every few days but thats because i am terrified of having b.o. i would leave them in the winter as well if i could.

btw my legs are not even that bad, i have fair hair so its only some dark hair around my ankles that are noticable, above that you cant see anything.

Expat, everyone is different, I only wanted a tip, it wasn't a dig.

I shave standing up in the shower and often nearly lose my balance while trying to shave my legs. Will try in the bath, thanks Motherfunk.

Mumcentreplus · 01/04/2008 15:30

My tip is get you DP/DH to shave them for you!@Saveme

expatinscotland · 01/04/2008 15:32

i would not trust DH near my bits!

no way.

really, a good professional wax is wonderful later on in pregnancy.

i wax at home and just use a mirror when i can see over the bump anymore.

Libra1975 · 01/04/2008 15:36

I have started waxing my legs every 6-8 weeks and by the stage they need waxing they REALLY need waxing but TBH by that stage you can see them but you can't really feel them as they are long enough just to be soft. DH just laughs when I sometimes point out I have hairy legs.
To be honest I think most men don't care about hairy legs, in fact I don't think most men NOTICE hairy legs unless we point it out to them. They are not the most observant people in the world when it comes to the female form unless they are ogling it on TV or in a magazine, mostly they just want us to say yes

P.s I like the feeling of smooth skin as well MotherFunk but I can't say it increases my sex drive!

YANBU

Tell him you'll shave your legs when he shaves his!

I don't think anyone should feel pressured to shave their legs/not shave their legs if they don't want to.

MF it's great for you that shaving your legs is a) so freaking easy for you and, b) makes you feel attractive. For me, shaving is a f*cking trial. I have dry skin (eczema) and all forms of depilation screw up my skin in a way no moisturiser can really fix. Shavings's a time consuming PITA for me, I'm willing to bet I'm significantly hairier than you .

Shaving certainly doesn't make me feel good about myself, it make me feel pissed off that I have to return my body to a prepubescent level of hairiness in order to seem attractive in this sexually screwed up society. Thankfully, DH agrees with me and now finds it weird when I do shave.

Mumcentreplus · 01/04/2008 15:37

I hardly have any leg hair tbh...I never shave in winter...well sometimes I do when I feel like it...my DH isn't bothered one way or another...he really can't talk about me being hairy he's a very hairy bugger himself

Mumcentreplus · 01/04/2008 15:40

my DH shaves me bits he's very careful

smilesattheweekend · 01/04/2008 15:43

I don't shave mine that much - only if I know I am going to get a sh*g. Once, myself and DH got drunk and I decided to let him loose with the depilatory cream - hoping for something like a brazilian - I ended up completed bald like a 5 year old girl!!!! shame!!

Mumcentreplus · 01/04/2008 16:08

I can't be shaving me fur-burger on a regular basis!...I have a nice trim when it gets a bit jungle-like

CoteDAzur · 01/04/2008 16:38

YABU.

And at the number of hairy women on this thread.

I don't shave, by the way, I wax. Highly recommended, especially if you can't be bothered with the daily effort of shaving.

smilesattheweekend · 01/04/2008 16:44

I have a friend who shaved her ladygarden, but accidentally shaved part of one of the spanials ears off IYKNIM!! There i'm with you mumcentreplus, a little tidy every now and then in the lady garden is fine, no need to call groundforce in once a year!

I don't think hair removal is anything to do with our partners tbh I do what i like and shave/wax if I feel like it and don't if I can't be bothered and dp never comments. You should insist on him doing something unreasonable before you will go near him again like waxing his bum!

expatinscotland · 01/04/2008 17:38

Yuk.

I have fair skin and very dark hair.

I've been waxing since I was 13 and shaving since 11.

plenty of moisturisers out there.

pinkyp · 01/04/2008 17:45

I shave my legs if i'm wearing a skirt etc and when i want to! I think it makes me feel nice, my dh and i have jokes sometimes. I have dark hair so do them maybe twice a week, if i did them everyday i get a rash down my legs that lasts for about a week! Do them if u want to not because dh is a pig! If i had fair hair i prob wouldnt do them half as much!
xxxx

so no u arent being unreasonable!

tissy · 01/04/2008 17:50

YANBU

My legs are hairy in the winter and waxed when I feel the urge to wear skirts again.

I haven't ever found it any more painful than removing a plaster, dittany.

And I've been having Brazilians since long before they became fashionable.

I don't find removing plasters very painful because I don't allow my hair to get yetti-like. I just don't find it an attractive look and I've gotten rid of it as soon as.

I think a lot of it is the skill of the technician.

I've had some that weren't as good as others.

NomDePlume · 01/04/2008 18:27

I hate waxing. The pain is the least of the problems

The fact that you have to wait for the hair to grow back in to a certain length before going back and you lose half the blardy summer hiding your notquitegrowninenoughyet legs.

The horrible spotty rashes post wax

The itchy regrowth

The fact you have to show your flaps to some over made up orange 'therapist' ()

Whoever says waxing lasts 6 weeks ? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Balls. I have quite slow growing hair but my starts to grow back within a week to 10 days. So I get a week of smoothness and I have to wait another 4-6 weeks for it to be long enough to be taken off again.

A load of nob-rot imo.
