aibu not shaving my legs

tis is causing a bit of friction (excuse the pun) between me and dh.

i really cant be bothered doing it, its the winter and i am living in jeans, when the summer comes round and i am in crops etc i will start doing it again then.

last night i had my legs streched out on the couch and he made a really childish comment about it, basically along the lines of he thinks its horrible and wants me to wear socks (in my own f**king house)

to be honest it was more the childish way he put it that pissed me right of, had he said it in a joking way i possibly would have toddled of upstairs and got a razor out.

this is the same man who finds periods yucky and wont ever let his dc see him without having at least shorts on, he has a very childish view about a lot of things.

anyway once we went to bed last night he made a move and i said no-way, if my legs were that horrible then why on earth would he want to have sex with me.

aibu about this? do you always have your legs done? i shave under my arms every few days but thats because i am terrified of having b.o. i would leave them in the winter as well if i could.

btw my legs are not even that bad, i have fair hair so its only some dark hair around my ankles that are noticable, above that you cant see anything.

I actually find body shaving completely repulsive. I usually do my legs (but with an epilator as I find stubble and daily shaving equally vile). But shaved armpits are revolting.

Why do we do it?

because people like my dh think it is a hanging offence if we dont.

WanderingTrolley, you look lovely in a bikini and I am sure that this guy would love to meet you.

Oliveoil · 01/04/2008 11:16

same as MotherFunk here, shave most days, or at least 3 times a week

and it is important to me to feel atractive, for me, not particularly for anyone else

however this issue here I think is the attitude of your dh

he is behaving like a nob

ara · 01/04/2008 11:16

mine are currently about a yard long...

haven't done them since dd was born four months ao

dp hasn't said anything but even i am starting to find them vaguely off-putting....!

maybe tonight should be the night......

I had exactly this argument with a boyfriend when I was 17.

Hairy, your dh is being an arse.

Oliveoil · 01/04/2008 11:19

there are ways and means though surely

nickytwotimes · 01/04/2008 11:21

Fair enough, MF. I just get a bit fed up with the whole 'women must feel attractive at all times' ethos that seems to be such a huge part of our culture. I don't like the idea of our self-worth being dependent on our perceived beauty. I am glad you no longer feel so depressed. I also look different when i am depressed than when I am okay, but this has more to do with my expression, iykwim !

hairybeary · 01/04/2008 11:22

my dh has grown a moustace a few times and it is horrible, its not your normal slug looking thing it is a bright orange handlebar job and looks stupid with his fair hir, would he shave it of because i asked him to? no way!!! it only comes of when he has to go back to work as he is not allowed any facial hair.

Sorry but i agree with MotherFunk, i also shave everyday in the shower it's so easssy, whats with allthe "i can't be bothered" it's so quick to do!

sitdownpleasegeorge · 01/04/2008 11:25

Inform him that shaving/using depilatory creans has started to bring you out in an vile itchy rash making your legs look horrible too. However, you are perfectly willing to have them waxed at a salon which will take at least an hour plus travel time there and back so let's say at least 3 childfree hours every 3 weeks or so whilst he minds the children and stumps up the money for waxing.

See how keen he is then for you to maintain beach babe legs in the middle of winter !

Does he shave every day ?

ipanemagirl · 01/04/2008 11:28

LOL wanderingtrolley!

OP, my dh teases me about my legs, I think it would be nice of me to shave them to please him but I also think it would be nice of him to give up smoking which is imo more repulsive!!!

It's the whole principle of it and how the other person's opinion is expressed, nothing to do with how long it takes.

well I let my leg hair "go" quite a bit this winter, mainly because I wanted it long enough for a good wax. I'm dark haired and they are noticeable from the knee down. dh commented jokily on the hairy lady he was now married to, and I equally jokily replied that I could book him in for a back/sac/crack at the same time as my leg appointment. He now doesn't say a thing...waiting for another wax now in readiness for the lovely spring weather that's doubtless just around the corner !

WanderingTrolley · 01/04/2008 11:36

Cheers, Thready, he's a fox

hairybeary, really tell him to get a back sack and crack.

Buy yourself some of these and wear them about the house next time he grows his mad moustache

They're meant to be sideburns, but you could always wrap them around your ankles to upset wind him up

nickytwotimes · 01/04/2008 11:40

MF, I can be ready in 10 mins, in case you couldn't guess, lol.
No, i do mean feel. I guess I'm just a slob or perhaps my interests lie elswhere. I wouldn't leave the house without hoovering which may well be completely potty to others! The concept of 'feeling' attractive is used to sell us stuff in bucket loads. I suppose the same could be said for many things though and we are never going to agree. just don't judge me too harshly when you see my dishevelled form walking down the street.

Lol at this thread- I haven't shaved my legs since last Autumn ooops

We went on holiday to France in September and I shaved them before we went (normally do them every couple of weeks, am v fair and they just don't grow very quickly), then I fell pregnant and I stated thowing up so much that I spent the next 10 weeks or so in and out of hospital, and since then just haven't been arsed! [lazy slovenly wench emoticon]
Now I find it too awkward with bump to get in the right position to shave them!

A while ago I was wearing thick black tights and had to get the lint roller out to remove some long cat hairs that had become attached to said legs- yes you've guessed it they were actually mine poking through the material. Ooooh the shame . Now they are so long they lie flat and don't poke through any more

Although as legs have been encased in jeans for so long the ones round my calf and knees have worn away, only the ankle bit remains.

DH hates them. I don't care! I really like him hairy though grrrrr esp when he lets his goatee beard n tash grow to zz top worthy lengths. (Well about 1 cm anyway)
