AIBU in noticing a increase in radical feminism on MN?

I'm not talking regular old feminism where equal rights are the goal, I'm sure we can all agree on that being important.

But there is a level of extremism emerging that goes from dizzying entitlement to outright man hating.

What gives?

That person is making a rhetorical point, not suggesting killing men, you do understand that don't you, or perhaps not?

You don't say. I thought she meant we should have a purge.

Sht really? What we do not need is yet another form of extremism.

I must say I have not noticed this phenomenon at all. Could you help me out and give examples of

  • level of extremism emerging
  • radical feminism
  • dizzying entitlement
  • outright man hating
  • anything in between

I’m happy always, to be educated.

Thank you!

Radical feminism is on the rise because some women are realising that contemporary liberal feminism has been engineered to make women think that being exploited and victimised by systemic misogyny is their own choice.

Take Reddit for example. The most popular ‘women’s’ sub is modded by men, and women are banned for questioning things like the trans movement and the ‘empowerment’ of sex work. So women can be ‘feminists’ and ‘outspoken’ as long as they are complicit in their exploitation, otherwise they are silenced. That is the problem with liberal feminism in a nutshell.

IncompleteSenten · 19/04/2024 14:53

What do you believe radical feminism is and what do you think radical feminists want?

lovehatelovehate · 19/04/2024 14:54

You don’t seem to know what you’re talking about, OP. Or what “radical feminism” actually means. Still waiting to see examples (or even one example, for that matter) of this “dizzying entitlement” and “outright man hating” you speak of. Total nonsense.

Stillnormal · 19/04/2024 14:54

Could you copy and paste a couple of examples from posts of exactly what you’re talking about please @sticksstones ? You might well have seen things I haven’t that would explain your thinking. THank’s

LenaLamont · 19/04/2024 14:55

I'm putting the kettle on and sending the offspring to the shops for snacks, as this one should be a laugh.

First up, @sticksstones , you don't seem to have a clue what Radical Feminism means. Unless we're all going to argue at cross purposes all thread, you might want to clarify.

Radical (meaning from the root) Feminism (to me) means understanding women are oppressed as a biological class by men in our patriarchal society and one of the tools of that oppression is gender.

That isn't man-hating. That's an analysis of how society works, who benefits and who doesn't. Being a radical feminist doesn't mean I don't love and respect my DH and my amazing sons.

It also isn't man-hating to point out the obscenely high numbers of rapes, sexual assaults and the murder of women and girls at the hands of the men in their lives.

Nor is it man-hating to point out the endemic culture of misogyny within instututions like the Metropolitan Police, who minimise domestic abuse and overlook reports of viollence against women whilst employing know sex offenders like Wayne Couzens.

Holding society and its institutions to account for failing women and girls isn't man-hating.

I'll have a coke and a portion of chips please.

You know the search facility on MN is a gift.

And your a goddam lying shit stirrer.

What? 😂

ThreeFeetTall · 19/04/2024 14:57

Do you mean 'radical' like bombs? (Like some of the suffergettes used 100 + years ago) or political lesbianism? (eg 40 years ago?)

RedToothBrush · 19/04/2024 14:57

sticksstones · 19/04/2024 14:55

What? 😂

Yeah quite.

What?

Keeprejoining · 19/04/2024 14:58

As a radical feminist I WhatsApped my DH my wordle results and arranged to meet my son for brunch at the weekend. They both know I'm gender critical. But our relationships are healthy enough to cope with it.

Theuglynaillady · 19/04/2024 14:58

We could introduce @sticksstones to radical lesbian feminism and watch her head explode.

lovehatelovehate · 19/04/2024 14:59

I’m hoping OP is a man, to be honest. The thought of a woman writing such claptrap is really quite depressing.

ThreeFeetTall · 19/04/2024 14:59

"I'm not talking regular old feminism where equal rights are the goal, I'm sure we can all agree on that being important."
Have you read Sheryl Sandbergs book Lean In? In which she talks about how great it was to have about 12 hours maternity leave Confused I'm not sure we do all agree on equality when it ends up being like that. Who gets to define 'equality'?

Hold your horses, I'm just in the process of reading the onslaught. I can multi task but it's a bit like a salmon swimming upstream on this thread at the moment. Examples will follow.

More women are standing up to men in womenface taking their stuff, and that's a bloody good thing

Yeah, but did it look like this? Wordle should not be used as a tool to oppress the mens. Naughty.

You will indeed find misandrists out there, trotting out ugly gems like: 'is it a girl or an abortion' but I have NEVER seen one of these loons on MN.

They tend to hang out on twiX with the other extreme crazies.

Interested for the upcoming examples though.

I don’t declare myself a radical feminist because it tends to argue for an end to a capitalist structure to society. While I do agree with the basic premise that in order for women to achieve true freedom we need an economic overhaul, I don’t agree that the end of capitalism is the solution.

the ideology doesn’t hate men. It simply acknowledges the structural, which can be changed, and practical, which can’t be changed but can be adjusted for, inequalities in our society.

Of course it’s possible you are using the phrase “radical feminism” without realizing that it is a term applied to a particular approach to feminist theory.

BabbityBumble · 19/04/2024 15:06

@Keeprejoining also, will the brunch be a full English? The subtle message that eggs are preferable to sperm you send with your scrambled marks you as an extremist.

TheShellBeach · 19/04/2024 15:11

sticksstones · 19/04/2024 14:42

Hence why I said: a level of extremism emerging

Not that all radical feminists are extremists.

Well, what are they, then?

<also fetches popcorn>

It would have been helpful, and possibly a good idea, to have quoted some examples in your OP.
