Do you shower/bath everyday

TheSpoonyNavyReader · 14/04/2024 07:06

Just that really, do you shower/bath daily as an adult that (not ill or has health conditions)

I am asking this as another thread, made me curious.

YIBU- I don't shower everyday, there is no need.
YANBU- I shower everyday as I like to be clean.

I'm not even a smelly person and I shower every day and wash my hair every day after my morning swim. It only takes a few minutes. I do have short hair and let it dry naturally, don't dye it or use product in it so it can cope with a daily wash with mild shampoo.

My teenagers wash every 2 days. One washes her hair every 4 days but she should do it more often, it's noticeably greasy at the roots and smells musty. It's down to her waist and takes a long time to dry so she doesn't like to wash it more often but really she should do it every second day. The other two don't smell washing every second day.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 14/04/2024 18:09

Yes. I now have an adapted wet room and have a relaxing shower before bed every night

Jk987 · 14/04/2024 18:21

Once an hour.

HollyKnight · 14/04/2024 19:07

I wash twice daily and wear clean clothes, but I don't shower every day. It really depends on what I'm doing that day. I wash my hair when I shower, so showering takes around 15-20 mins, then another 15-20 mins to dry my hair. I can't be bothered with that every day. I always shower if I am going out with people.

@BernardBlacksBreakfastWine

Do you think everyone is the same?
Well I think most people poop daily and in the uk they clean by wiping with paper.
I think everyone pees daily and there is always a tiny bit of urine residue
I think men develop smegma
I think feet get a bit sticky in shoes and socks all day
I know the average about of sweat a person loses overnight is 200ml so that is sitting on your skin

Nobody has said that they don't wash every day, just that they might not have a bath or a shower to do that.

EveSix · 14/04/2024 19:10

Wow, so much showering (and laundering ‐a different thread)!
Collectively, we need to be more mindful of our water use, I think.

LegoDeathTrap · 14/04/2024 19:12

You never get proper answers in threads like this. In the UK, most people wash every day. However, because of the self selecting sample answering these threads, everyone who washes once daily will glaze over the most boring thread ever, and you will only get “twice a day” and “once every two days” replies.

Same as with the money threads, where no one ever earns between the 10th and the 90th percentile, despite the fact that 80% of the population does.

Wow and you think I am rude.

You do you.

Nope, can’t afford it. 3 times a week if I’m lucky.

Mmmm19 · 14/04/2024 19:45

Very nearly. I may go 1.5 days eg showered last night and not even to work today so may wait until tomorrow morning.

jannier · 14/04/2024 17:15

And again the reaction was to you saying clean towel every use for 5 people so up to 10 towels...plus a hair towel....daily and your complete wash of all clothes ...jumpers, t shirt trousers on top of I underwear
Your other half thinks £19000 a year on groceries was too much and people said stop washing clothes/towels so often

On that thread I saw that washing towels after every wash was excessive, BTW it was less than 8 towels per day, as I do not wash my hair every day.

I said on that thread my husband did not think the washing I did was excessive, but I saw that washing them everyday was a little too much, so I have decided to change.

We were going through the finances and my husband asked why our main shop without top up was at 19K , I explained that it was just not food, and half the bill was other items.

Yes, body wash shower every day followed by a full body moisturise.

I only wash my hair once a week though as it's long, thick and doesn't get greasy or mucky. It's an absolute nightmare to style so unless it needs it, I don't bother.

If you see what I wrote in my OP, I said those that have health conditions so your daughter issues are accepted.

How very gracious of you.

Daily for me. But I can't say I've noticed if folk are not doing the same. This smell folk talk of on here ive never noticed that.

BadLad · 14/04/2024 23:39

Twice a day here - natural instinct is for a morning shower, to wake up and make sure there’s no lingering shaving foam. My wife is Japanese, and, like most Japanese people, thinks it’s disgusting not to shower before bed, so I now do that as well.

Despite that, I still think the OP sounds quite mad on her other thread.

Caiti19 · 14/04/2024 23:51

Daily, because I need it. I don't believe everyone needs it though. I'm just a bit of a sweaty creature now. Weirdly, I only began to sweat after I had first baby. Before that, I felt crisp and fresh for days after a shower, and shower was more for pleasure I miss those days.

Lilyscotswolds · 15/04/2024 00:06

I don’t shower everyday and I have never been told I smell (the opposite in fact, I’m frequently complimented) and my skin is also in perfect condition — I mention this because I attribute it largely to the fact I don’t dehydrate it with over frequent stripping of oils.

Hemakesmesmile2 · 15/04/2024 00:18

At least once a day (up to three times during summer/period week. I don’t wash my hair every day (every 2-3 days for that) since I tuned 38 I get much more irritated under arms so showering daily helps me feel more comfortable too.

Sunnnybunny72 · 14/04/2024 08:52

One cloth? For everywhere?

@Sunnnybunny72

Yes of course one cloth - and it never goes in the laundry or get changed. Tbh your comment is just mean.

Most people shopping is including non food though.....and omg you do top ups as well..seriously you spend a lot, a candidate for shop well for less perhaps.

Coatsoff42 · 15/04/2024 09:58

Sometimes I think showering so we don’t smell is a funny concept. Like the entire animal kingdom don’t shower and they use the sense of smell to read each others health or mood. And there’s evidence that people on the look out for a ‘mate’ use pheromones to subconsciously be attracted to people with a different immune system to make their off spring healthier.
obviously smelling human is very bad in our society and frowned upon and I don’t want to be frowned upon, but as an abstract idea it is strange not to use one of our senses to read each other fully.

CammyChameleon · 15/04/2024 10:04

Not always. If I'm on my period or the weather is hot, then yes, every day. Otherwise I can go a day or two doing face, pits and naughty bits (+feet) with soap and a flannel.

CammyChameleon · 15/04/2024 10:17

smellslikecinnamon · 14/04/2024 17:22

In the UK the vast majority don't use a bidet. Now the huge swathes of the planet who wash their bottoms with water after a trip to the loo already think the Brits are revolting for just wiping with paper. Imagine getting poo on your hand. Would you just wipe it away with paper? Not even washing daily is just rank.

Bidet evangelists have the strangest arguments lol.

A) Why should Brits care what other populations think of the cleanliness of our arseholes - and why are these people thinking of our arseholes so much anyway?

B) Would I rub shit off my hand with a paper towel and leave it at that - no, but then I use my hands to cook dinner, eat and touch my face. I don't know anyone who uses their arsehole to do any of those activities.

I have travelled to mostly bidet-using countries and to mostly toilet-paper using countries.

In neither case did anyone walk around smelling of shit, nor were vast swathes of the population succumbing to arse-based disease.

I can only conclude therefore that both bidets and toilet paper are perfectly adequate for the job and you should choose whichever you prefer.
