Do you shower/bath everyday

TheSpoonyNavyReader · 14/04/2024 07:06

Just that really, do you shower/bath daily as an adult that (not ill or has health conditions)

I am asking this as another thread, made me curious.

YIBU- I don't shower everyday, there is no need.
YANBU- I shower everyday as I like to be clean.

I hope the people only showering / bathing once/twice a week aren't expecting any oral sex 😬

Maybe they're washing in between? You can wash and be clean without a shower or bath
I've met people that haven't been able to have a shower in a decade and they don't smell because they wash

Oh, absolutely. I meant more people who sounded as if a once / twice weekly wash (of any description) would suffice.

Vetoncall · 14/04/2024 16:25

Twice a day. I work 4 days a week and go to/coach CrossFit 6-7 days a week as well as walking our dogs twice a day. Shower in the morning after dog walk/before work and then again in the evening after work/gym/dog walk. Non-work days it's morning after gym and evening after long afternoon dog walk etc. My job is very physical and I'm on my feet all day so between that and the amount of exercise I do I'd feel absolutely rank without showering twice daily.

If you read all my comments on that thread, you will see I said I sometimes shower twice a day not everyday, and I never actually said how much shampoo and shower gel we use.

People said that you did not have to shower daily, or wear clean clothes. Beds can go a month without washing them.

And again the reaction was to you saying clean towel every use for 5 people so up to 10 towels...plus a hair towel....daily and your complete wash of all clothes ...jumpers, t shirt trousers on top of I underwear
Your other half thinks £19000 a year on groceries was too much and people said stop washing clothes/towels so often

I can’t leave the house without a shower. I’m kind of sweaty.

However, this is definitely not the same for everyone. My husband is a very un-sweaty, un-smelly person. He just doesn’t smell! So those of you sagely saying you can always tell if a colleague hasn’t showered… you’re wrong! I can’t tell if my own husband has showered and there’s nothing wrong with my sense of smell!

He's your dh. You will be nose blind to him.

I can’t start the day without being fresh from top to bottom, including washing my hair.

This is true for me too. But I can’t vote YABU to someone who doesn’t shower / bath every day. People have varied reasons for not doing so, and that’s their business. All fine with me as long as no-one smells!

Auburngal · 14/04/2024 17:18

Shower 5 out of 7 days. Have a quick wash on the other days.

When abroad on holiday, I shower twice a day and sometimes 3 times depending on how hot it is

smellslikecinnamon · 14/04/2024 17:19

MumChp · 14/04/2024 08:25

No. My skin is ruined if I shower daily. And waste of water tbh. And time as a mum.
I do wash every day with a cloth.

I can't see how a flannel wash is any faster than a quick shower. Do you hoick your feet into the basin? Do you have water dripping down your legs when you flannel off the soap? I'm really particular about gettingALL the soap off. I couldn't remove bum and crotch soap with just a damp flannel. I'd need it to be a sopping wet one repeated several times.
Easier to hop in the shower or have a shallow 20cm bath

smellslikecinnamon · 14/04/2024 17:22

In the UK the vast majority don't use a bidet. Now the huge swathes of the planet who wash their bottoms with water after a trip to the loo already think the Brits are revolting for just wiping with paper. Imagine getting poo on your hand. Would you just wipe it away with paper? Not even washing daily is just rank.

thismummydrinksgin · 14/04/2024 17:25

Yes. 🙌 feel better for it. D
Wouldn't judge someone who doesn't.

TheSmallAssassin · 14/04/2024 17:27

I obviously don't lather my soap up as wetly as you do, @smellslikecinnamon, there's very little dripping.

I don't need to put my armpits in the basin to get them clean, so not sure why I'd have to put my feet in there to get them washed, that's what the flannel is for.

Merlinsmum21 · 14/04/2024 17:27

No I don't shower every day, every other day is fine for me unless I've been working hard. I haven't washed my hair since October 2022. It looks good. My skin is sensitive and as a child only had a bath once a week, wash every day. I look after my skin and keep my self looking good.

Blackcats7 · 14/04/2024 17:27

Well this might freak some people out but I haven’t had a bath or a shower for five years. Not because I don’t want to, I would absolutely love to but my increasing disability has meant I can’t access either in my home anymore so I have to strip wash instead. I don’t think I smell (hope not!) but you never feel as clean as water all over makes you feel. Plus the heat helps with pain.
I have asked for a council disabled facilities grant to convert my bathroom to the wet room with shower chair I need but as I get a very small nurses pension I am assessed at being able to afford the first £7k myself even though they can see from my bank statements I don’t have that in savings so I think it likely I will never get to bath or shower ever again.
Do I win the prize?

So you don't soapy up your feet between the toes etc and rinse?

smellslikecinnamon · 14/04/2024 17:16

Umm no. I can definitely smell him if he smells - say, if he’s been sweating in the gym. But he’s a very unsweaty person in general.

Do you think everyone is the same?

TheSmallAssassin · 14/04/2024 17:31

Yes, I do, @smellslikecinnamon , but I use bar soap suds with my hand and then wipe them off with the flannel, I've never needed to put my feet in the actual sink to do it.

Literally nobody has said this.

Squarecircletriangle · 14/04/2024 17:35

Bath every other day.

FFS @smellslikecinnamon We get it! You’re better than everyone else!

Feel better now?

As I’ve said, I need to shower every day, but I’m very uncomfortable with the hygiene police coming on and telling everyone with different needs/routines that they’re gross.

Why are you like this?

smellslikecinnamon · 14/04/2024 17:39

@BernardBlacksBreakfastWine

Do you think everyone is the same?
Well I think most people poop daily and in the uk they clean by wiping with paper.
I think everyone pees daily and there is always a tiny bit of urine residue
I think men develop smegma
I think feet get a bit sticky in shoes and socks all day
I know the average about of sweat a person loses overnight is 200ml so that is sitting on your skin

Oh that's so tough. Washing your hair must be so difficult. I'm so sorry as showering and bathing is such an enjoyable part of my day.
I hope you can get things sorted before too much longer

Mistymist · 14/04/2024 17:44

I shower once daily and twice in the summer.

QueenOfTheEntireFuckingUniverse · 14/04/2024 17:54

Nope. Every other day. My hair and skin are in much better condition for it. I. Do occasionally have a sink wash too

Boomer55 · 14/04/2024 17:56

Twice a day, maybe more in Summer, or if I’m going on some sort of occasion.
