Sick of this fucking weather. No wonder we are all ill and fat.

The heating has been on at home at some point every day for the past 7 months. I’ve no inclination to get out and walk or do anything at all after work. I come home and cook comfort food as there’s sod all else to do. Drying washing everywhere, house always looks untidy.

It’s always cold, dark, rainy, depressing. If we’re lucky we’ll get 2-3 months of a bit of warmth and sunshine before it all starts waning towards winter again.

No wonder there’s lots of bugs and colds around, we’re all indoors all the time! Couple the shitty weather with high costs of living, crap public services and it makes me wonder why I didn't feck off to Australia when I was younger.

No point to this post, just a moan!

I agree OP. Totally relentless.

Its made a lot worse by the crap summer we had in 2023. It feels like the weather has been pretty bad for about 18 months.

I keep eyeing up all these great summer outfits online but then am thinking when on earth am I going to wear them.

I am barely able to wear trainers as they get waterlogged, never mind some floaty linen dress in lemon yellow.

It might help to post where you live.

I have had the back door open today (Wiltshire). A bit of rain, but I am not made of sugar.
Blaming the weather for being fat makes no sense. You can eat less and exercise at home.

Sagittarius · 08/04/2024 20:03

EveryoneJapan · 08/04/2024 19:33

Not sure being fat has much to do with the weather but I agree the endless rain and grey days can be draining. That said, when it’s dry, I love a good bracing walk in the cold.

It feel it does for a lot of people. I always put on a bit of weight in the winter and then lose it in summer, purely because I'm out walking in the warmer weather. When it's cold and raining I just want to sit under my blanket keeping warm and have no desire to go out!

We've had another day of rain and I'm totally fed up of it too. Going to the lakes tomorrow and the weather forecast is pretty much 80-90% rain all day, not feeling excited to go and can only hope the forecast is wrong 😔

Jellywobblescobbles · 08/04/2024 20:08

I have felt totally meh today. Why does it have to rain every single day at some point?! Ridiculous.

DewinDwl · 08/04/2024 20:08

Nothing that decent appropriate clothing wouldn't fix though either

40 mph winds, gusts of 50mph, off and on showers (so you have to cover up) and warm temperatures (so you stew in your waterproofs. No amount of "appropriate clothing" will

  • make anyone enjoy this weather
  • dry the swamps local parks, my garden, local paths
  • sort out the local rugby and football pitches so matches don't have to be cancelled every other week due to standing water
  • make my laundry dry faster

I don't drive and I am out in all weathers. There is nothing enjoyable or virtuous about soaking clothes or destroyed umbrellas.

@UnderappreciatedTeacher
I have a home gym so I exercise all year when I can
I'm always going to be ill, regardless of the weather
I can still moan about the rain because there is stuff I want to do that I can't do until it stops raining like sitting outside in my garden, eating outside, socialising at an outdoor swim without the wind whistling around our ears

Oblomov24 · 08/04/2024 20:13

I agree it's been really miserable for ages.

BuddhaAtSea · 08/04/2024 20:14

Mrspatmoresspoon · 08/04/2024 19:43

Agree op - I’ve spent hours on the jet2 website in the last 2 weeks

I went and did it. Fuck this for a game of soldiers. I’m going for a long weekend to the south of Italy just for shiggles. Cause they have sun.
My allotment is on a slope. Spent more time dragging the earth back up the hill than I did planting.

ArcticBells · 08/04/2024 20:17

Blackcats7 · 08/04/2024 18:33

Try having a horse. It’s torture and most horsey people I know are really depressed and exhausted.
My friend has a family of ducks who have moved into her fields and it is suiting them far better than the poor horses.

Absolutely, exhausted and penniless from all the bedding still having to be brought

phoenixrosehere · 08/04/2024 20:19

Hartley99 · 08/04/2024 19:53

No you’re not going to get people in the south saying that!! I’m in the south east and am fucking sick to fucking death of the constant dinge and grey sky. I reckon we’ve had about five days of bright sunshine since Christmas - if that. I don’t mind the cold. (I loathe the heat with a passion.) But God I yearn for some sunshine. If we have a grey, cloudy summer I think I’m going to scream.

I’m also in the Southeast, in Oxfordshire, and we have definitely had way more than five sunny days since Christmas. I’ve had the sun shining through my windows and been working on the garden since the Easter Holidays started (now on the second week). Where in the Southeast are you?

Bigcoatweather · 08/04/2024 20:21

Yes, we all have suitable clothing, but it’s still miserable. I think the tiny summer we had last year has added to the length of boring, grey, wet weather.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 08/04/2024 20:24

Out 3 times a day for the horses and dog. I don't own enough waterproofs. My first gets soaked through the rain is so heavy then doesn't dry out for ages. Couldn't get the 2nd hay harvest in last year because the rain was so relentless it destroyed the hay field, everything flattened and muddy. We've been under a flood alert which is a rarity but happening more and more often. River was swollen to the extent that we couldn't get through the Ford. Its just been so relentless

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 08/04/2024 20:28

What gets me is, even on the odd day where it doesn’t forecast rain it rains anyway.

Dh likes motorbikes but won’t ride when the roads wet. He hasn’t been out on it at all this year. Hes usually been to work in it a few times by this time in the year.

cozycat1 · 08/04/2024 20:32

Totally agree. It's been relentless grey and rain west coast Scotland. Very difficult to enjoy outdoor activities and I am normally into walking, hillwalking, tennis etc. Its just miserable. I've used my (nice and big) back garden ONCE this year for enjoyment so far, and possibly a handful of times to put the washing out.Currently on hol.in med.its amazing how good some sun and outdoor activity can make you feel. No cravings for stodge either.

Ontobetterthings · 08/04/2024 20:34

Completely agree! The kids football matches keep getting called off now. The pitches are constantly waterlogged

NursieBernard · 08/04/2024 20:38

I completely agree OP. It's the relentlessness of it that is so wearing, we have not had 2 consecutively dry days in months. You can't plan any outside activities and indoor activities are extortionate and crammed with too many people.

Cold, dry, crisp days are the best 🥰

Motherrr · 08/04/2024 20:51

I agree... I want to be optimistic and I hate saying 'I'm bored' (my Granny used to say bored people are boring) but I'm so effing bored of the strong winds/constant rain and kids/us being ill all the time -have done nothing much for the last month! Anyway I will stop moaning now....

Wayofliving · 08/04/2024 20:52

Sorry! I’ve been busy and didn’t realise there were so many responses.

I live in the North west so have had battering after battering with storms and in between relentless grey skies.

I’ve gained 6lbs over the winter - not too unusual but as soon as the spring comes I’m usually out and about more and are happy to eat lighter and it usually drops back off. I’m still cooking large, pies, soups, things to keep us warm and cosy!

Dog walking is now a chore as she’s always soaking and muddy, we’ve usually got the garden furniture out by now and can potter and start planting.

Nope - I’m permanently cold, trying to remind myself that it’s APRIL and there should be no need for the heating to go on!

And no it's very unlikely to do with the Icelandic volcano and much more likely to do with sea temperatures over the last few months being much higher than typical.

A sea temp of 27 degrees C is the reason for hurricanes in some global areas

HauntedBungalow · 08/04/2024 18:56

My allotment has been underwater for large stretches of the past seven months.

Should have planted rice.

I feel for you but this did make me snort laughing Grin

SergeantDawkins · 08/04/2024 20:54

Oh my god it’s just a bit of rain, honestly you’d think people have never seen a British spring before.

Loubilou23 · 08/04/2024 20:55

I get outside every day for at least an hours dog walk and 1-2 hours horse riding 5 days a week and have done all through winter. There’s always a window of reasonable weather most days.
