Sick of this fucking weather. No wonder we are all ill and fat.

The heating has been on at home at some point every day for the past 7 months. I’ve no inclination to get out and walk or do anything at all after work. I come home and cook comfort food as there’s sod all else to do. Drying washing everywhere, house always looks untidy.

It’s always cold, dark, rainy, depressing. If we’re lucky we’ll get 2-3 months of a bit of warmth and sunshine before it all starts waning towards winter again.

No wonder there’s lots of bugs and colds around, we’re all indoors all the time! Couple the shitty weather with high costs of living, crap public services and it makes me wonder why I didn't feck off to Australia when I was younger.

No point to this post, just a moan!

I HATE the saying no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing. Say that when you are pushing a pram in the battering rain with a toddler slipping beside you.
Most modern parks are wood and all natural. Crap for young kids as so slippy in bad weather. It’s rained every day of the holidays(today aside). Indoor activities are so much more expensive with free ones less common. I don’t mind cold but the really heavy rain is peeing me off.

It's not the same as being in the fresh air, with a bit of warmth in your skin though.

but it is better than doing absolutely nothing and you can choose the duration, challenge level etc

keeps the body and mind going

it is about building a habit

peachgreen · 08/04/2024 19:44

Oh and I take DD out when I know she can get straight into a bath and PJs when we get home which saves me time in the evening so it feels like a payoff that’s worth it!

ifonly4 · 08/04/2024 19:44

OK. It's not all bad. My washing was out all morning and dried, got it in before work. In fact, I've managed to put 90% of washes out in the last seven months. The rain doesn't stop me going for a walk, as I tend to walk everywhere - work (unless it's my second job not within walking distance, exercise class, do all my food shopping on foot - I just get on with it and try and enjoy any views, changing seasons.

Fair enough, I've had a bug over Easter, but that's probably down to two high contact jobs, not from someone within my family. Not of us are fat as you put it - I walk, cycle, do my exercise class, DH walks, cycles, gym, DD walks, runs, cycles.

I did read somewhere that the Met Office has said that it has been the wettest 18 months since records began. I also find the weather impacts my mood. Also, I want to sort the car out but just can't be bothered as there is just more mud!

I can believe this. Last year had a decent May and half of June, then except for a single week the summer was Essentially a washout. And it’s been cold and wet since then.

I’ve got chickens and had to buy hay for their run because it was so wet they’d be swimming and you could barely reach the coop without sinking.

The groundwater is so high that even the idea of rain means the floodplain is underwater again.

I need some warmth and sunshine. I thought we’d turned the corner last weekend but it was ‘fake spring mark VIII’ instead.

sigh.

5128gap · 08/04/2024 19:45

Its rained a lot for sure. But because I know how absolutely rubbish I feel if I don't get my outside walks in I've turned into a weather watcher, poised to rush outside whenever there's a dry spell. There's been very few days when the sun hadn't made a very brief appearance or at least the rains reduced to manageable drizzle where I live.

Movinghouseatlast · 08/04/2024 19:45

I'm so fucking fed up. I don't mind walking in the rain occasionally but not every bloody day.

Today we should count our lucky stars it's only rained a bit but its been incredibly windy and cold. Yet again I couldn't bring myself to go out for a walk because its just unpleasant. I feel really lazy but I just hate hoping put in this, it's an endurance test not pleasant at all.

Murkierwaters · 08/04/2024 19:45

Everything is damp and grimy in the U.K.
Dog shit everywhere
Human shit in the rivers and sea
Litter all over the place
Run down
its crap

BeneathTheSea · 08/04/2024 19:46

I don't have a car and haven't really noticed it.
I'm a keen gardener and have still managed to get on ok.
It's started raining here now but been dry and windy rest of the day.
Easier for me though, no dog or young children.
In a few weeks everyone will be moaning about the heat.

Murkierwaters · 08/04/2024 19:47

Even during the 3.5 nice days each summer that we get the beautiful local park just smells of warmed up dog shit

Doratheexplorer1 · 08/04/2024 19:47

ToxicChristmas · 08/04/2024 18:31

I just go out anyway, but I don't really care about getting wet. It's not particularly cold where I am (Cotswolds). Just got back in from a 7 mile walk and it rained a tiny bit but was fine really. Heating is off in the house.
I'd say just shove on a coat and go out. The flowers and blossom are out, the spring lambs are in the fields. I can't wait for summer so I do get you there though!

The Cotswolds is it’s own type of gorgeous. So lucky ♥️

Justkeepswiimming · 08/04/2024 19:48

As a dog owner I empathise entirely. Months and months of wet, cold, windy, mucky walks. Followed by cleaning the mucky wet dogs and cleaning any resulting mess. I haven't stopped mopping and sweeping for ages! Not even a good frost to freeze the ground solid. Mud mud mud mud mud mud

wombpaloumbpa · 08/04/2024 19:49

Yes I agree it's been a relentlessly long wet winter. I live on the south coast. We were promised a warmer weekend and it was about 14 degrees with a cold and quite forceful wind. I know 14 could be a lot worse but the wind was cold and crazy so didn't feel warm at all. Longing for a warm, still, blue sky day.

PermanentIyExhaustedPigeon · 08/04/2024 19:49

It's the mud that gets me. I don't mind the rain, I've got good waterproofs, but the fucking MUD is just so endless and grim and horrible. All the paths we walk are slippy squelchy quagmires. It's just really unpleasant.

You could freeze to death or die of heat stroke somewhere else in the world if you preferred.

You have an attitude problem not a weather problem.

reesewithoutaspoon · 08/04/2024 19:50

Its the rain. Even if you do go out for walks, then when you get home your clothes are damp and need drying/washing, and it's just more work, and it's depressing.
I love walking, don't mind the odd bit of rain, but in the NW its rained virtually every bloody day, my back garden is like a swamp, and none of my bulbs came up. I reckon they have rotted in the ground,
I would just like a week of dry weather, this rain is relentless.

wombpaloumbpa · 08/04/2024 19:51

Also I've been ill since early February with constant colds and horrible coughs, no energy, currently got sinusitis and I've gained 8lbs this winter from comfort / boredom eating so I can really relate and also to the absolute mud fest of having a dog

BeardyButton · 08/04/2024 19:53

Completely agreed. I also own a horse… I am currently reviewing my life choices after getting in from mucking out his poo, trudging through knee deep mud to get him, dealing with his foul mood and ‘antics’, and then dealing with his legs which are the worse for the mud. Why the hell I spend every penny of disposable income in this is anyone’s guess as I haven’t ridden him consistently for months (the weather).

Give us a break. The weathers shite even by U.K. standards.

Is it anything to do with that volcano erupting in Iceland? I know this can affect the atmosphere.

innerdesign · 08/04/2024 18:51

Oh god, I agree OP but we're going to get loads of people who live on the south coast going 'well it's not like that here!!!'. I have waterproofs, I also have a spaniel, so I'm out long walks in all weathers. In the past two months I think we've had three walks where I've taken my winter jacket off. The rest it's been raining or cold and windy. Last summer we had three weeks of nice weather in May/June, two days of sun in September, and I'm not exaggerating when I say the whole rest of the year was cold and wet. It gets you down.

No you’re not going to get people in the south saying that!! I’m in the south east and am fucking sick to fucking death of the constant dinge and grey sky. I reckon we’ve had about five days of bright sunshine since Christmas - if that. I don’t mind the cold. (I loathe the heat with a passion.) But God I yearn for some sunshine. If we have a grey, cloudy summer I think I’m going to scream.

CrushingOnRubies · 08/04/2024 19:55

On a more positive went outside for dog agility training this afternoon. And the sun peaked through for 5 mins between drizzle showers and the sun was trying to be warm

I agree though this late winter early spring has been wet though.

Please don't blame it on me for getting waterproof for Christmas Easter Blush

Nothing that decent appropriate clothing wouldn't fix though either.

And no it's very unlikely to do with the Icelandic volcano and much more likely to do with sea temperatures over the last few months being much higher than typical.

Plumeface · 08/04/2024 19:12

I'm famously anti summer but I have to say the rain and wind are becoming a bit relentless even for me.

I would love to be the sort of person who could just put on waterproofs and find a walk in freezing, driving rain and wind enjoyable, but I'm not.

I'm also anti-summer and the thing that pisses me off most is that all the months I am usually most energetic and enjoy walking in have been wet. Then in a few weeks you can bet it will turn hot and sunny for months, and there won't have been any cool dry spell at all 🙄.

verabarbleen · 08/04/2024 19:57

Also fed up . I go out anyway as have two toddlers and I have to get them out but they cry and moan about the mud and the rain 😂 even when they are happy jumping in puddles then the living room is wrecked because my front door goes straight into lounge and as much as I say SHOES OFF they don't always remember. Can't wait for the sun although I will moan about that too I'm sure 🙈😂

But there is only so long you can look forward to trudging around in rain and cold
Yes you can find a way but I'm sick of carrying an umbrella, sick of puddles, mud and my garden being a bog and not being able to see because my glasses are either steamed up or full of rain
The odd wet day fine but it has rained and rained and rained. I don't even like hot weather, I just want it to dry up!
