The heating has been on at home at some point every day for the past 7 months. I’ve no inclination to get out and walk or do anything at all after work. I come home and cook comfort food as there’s sod all else to do. Drying washing everywhere, house always looks untidy.

It’s always cold, dark, rainy, depressing. If we’re lucky we’ll get 2-3 months of a bit of warmth and sunshine before it all starts waning towards winter again.

No wonder there’s lots of bugs and colds around, we’re all indoors all the time! Couple the shitty weather with high costs of living, crap public services and it makes me wonder why I didn't feck off to Australia when I was younger.

No point to this post, just a moan!

YANBU. We have been saying exactly the same thing. It’s fucking appalling and showing NO signs of stopping. I have a friend who recently moved here from a sunny country who is shocked how bad our weather is and how much it dominates our lives because we can hardly go out - not unless we want to get soaking wet and blown around anyway.

excitedforbaby9 · 08/04/2024 18:57

I completely agree; it’s so depressing. My baby absolutely hates being in the pram with the rain cover on, my toddler enjoys the rain but doesn’t like being wet 🤣. It’s been a really long, depressing winter. I am craving the windows and doors being open, the children in and out playing as they please, washing drying outside, dinners in the garden. I just can’t wait any longer!

Hedjwitch · 08/04/2024 18:57

I agree op. In Central Scotland. Other than a couple of lovely weeks last June its been utterly miserable. Relentless rain, cold, miserable. No,I dont want to wrap up and trudge round the wet streets. I want sun, warmth, long evenings. Sick to death of this.

Garlicked · 08/04/2024 18:57

Yeah, I want a refund.

On a more serious note, I heard a farmer on radio four today who was panicking about this year’s crops. His field is completely sodden and unusable. He described graphically what he would see when the rain receded, the mess, twigs, the destroyed soil, the dead worms etc. I know little about farming but felt really sorry for him. And a bit worried.

oObyeOo · 08/04/2024 19:00

I hear you op!! The rain made me cry today! 🙈

The sun came out for the first time in days so I got my bike out and went for a ride… within an hour I was soaked to the bone, flippin freezing and an hour away from finishing. I tried to stop at a pub to warm up and it was closed, so I cried in the carpark!

I am out every day! In the rain with the dogs, but it’s relentless and it just got to me today after being all excited and keen to start in the sunshine

Savvy21 · 08/04/2024 19:02

I did read somewhere that the Met Office has said that it has been the wettest 18 months since records began. I also find the weather impacts my mood. Also, I want to sort the car out but just can't be bothered as there is just more mud!

Alfreddoeblin · 08/04/2024 19:02

Agree OP. If you live in the north it’s been bl*y awful. Live in gtr Manchester and nothing but rain and mud. We were at our caravan in the dales over the weekend and rainy/ muddy/windy also. Got absolutely sodden yesterday despite having the right clothing too.

Nudgethatjudge · 08/04/2024 19:02

I'm fed up too. I feel we don't get 1 day without rain at some point.

I live rurally and its a muddy bog pit, water running off the hills. Footpaths muddy. River banks looking precarious.

I love walking but keeping off the bigger hills as dont want to be another one who slips and is rescued by the local MR team.

Love my kagools and my woolly hats. But feel I'll be weating them in May.

Saw lots of lambs yesterday standing on their mum's back, probably fed up with muddy feet.

You can exercise at home for free using YT.

Have you seen the price of food there? Those fuckers can't afford to eat. It's nothing like the fucking shop!

Yeah absolutely. If the state of my allotment is replicated across the country we're going to run out of fresh vegetables soon. Quite a lot I've planted just rotted in the ground.

Loads of rhubarb though.

It's not the same as being in the fresh air, with a bit of warmth in your skin though.

DianaTaverner · 08/04/2024 19:06

The weather hasn't been too bad to go out for lots of bracing park/common/wetlands/woods walks in London but dear god the mud.

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 08/04/2024 19:07

Yes rained just about every day here since February ( Yorkshire).. drove home from a warmish sunny Whitby yesterday to a horrible down pour and high winds across the North York Moors..
So l thought sod it.. I'm going to the Canaries for some Sun and hot weather. Going to book and go ..

Tarmacadamia · 08/04/2024 19:08

It's grim but we've fucked the climate so we just need to suck it up and stop moaning. I feel most sorry for farmers; there are lambs drowning in the fields and arable farmers are going to really struggle this year unless things start to dry out very soon.

On the other hand, the weather has never been quite as bad as predicted during the Easter holidays, and I'm in one of the wettest place in England. We've still managed to get out for a bit every day even if the mud and greyness are a bit depressing. I'm neither ill nor fat.

I live in central Scotland too. We had some nice weather in June 2023 for sure. And as soon as the schools broke up for the summer holidays the rain started, and hasn't stopped since. There was SNOW on the Campsies on Friday, and it was 2C. Raining again now.

It is shitty enough getting rain in the winter months when it's dark by 3.45pm. But at this time of year when the nights are stretching out it's even worse. I don't want a heatwave summer. I want a DRY summer.

But they get paid enough to afford their expensive food. Likewise all the other Nordic countries.

I saw an article the other day, they're all consistently the top 5 happiest countries in the world.

Their weather is far worse than ours but they have less inequality and poverty, public services that are fit for purpose including better mental health provision.

Which helps the population be more resilient and satisfied with their lot, more likely to get on with it and less likely to be moping indoors if it's raining.

oObyeOo · 08/04/2024 19:09

For those saying oh it’s not that bad! Make the most of it etc etc… It’s the relentlessness that’s the problem. There’s an actual mental health condition/depression called Seasonal Affective Disorder. It’s real

Deliadidit · 08/04/2024 19:11

No idea where you live, but here in the SE UK,it was 18c today, shorts and t shirt.

SE here too and if I had seen you out and about I would have been thinking that you were one of those ridiculous people that as soon as the temp goes up slightly, the arms and legs come out! It’s April - not late spring, Summer.

Plumeface · 08/04/2024 19:12

I'm famously anti summer but I have to say the rain and wind are becoming a bit relentless even for me.

I would love to be the sort of person who could just put on waterproofs and find a walk in freezing, driving rain and wind enjoyable, but I'm not.

It is a real thing and there are many of us who post about the diminishing daylight in October/November and how hard we find it.

We are usually told to pull ourselves together, get out for a lovely walk scrunching through the autumn leaves, or stay at home all cosy and snuggle under a blankie with a hot choccie and the famalam.

Evenstar · 08/04/2024 18:54

@Blackcats7 I got chickens last summer and we have a running “joke” that ducks would be a better choice with the weather we have had.

My joy was complete this morning when my Pomeranian decided to roll in the mud round the chicken run and so I had to bath him as well as wading in the quagmire to see to the chickens. I can’t imagine how people with horses haven’t given up keeping them en masse.

Edited

@Evenstar I have chickens too and they're starting to give me side-eye, as if the constant rain is all my fault. 🤷‍♀️😆

theshirespace · 08/04/2024 19:14

I'm with you OP, it's not even just the rain, it's the grey skies, they really get me down. When the sun was out yesterday for a couple of hours I had so much more energy I even went out for a run. Today it's back to normal and I struggled to make myself get out at all.

TiredArse · 08/04/2024 19:15

Completely agree. I have suitable shoes and clothing but it’s fucking MISERABLE having rain in your face.

I want to sit outside and feel the sun on my face.
