Would your partner wake you up shouting due to cramp?

As the title says really, Aibu to think shouting out in agony due to leg cramp in the middle of the night is somewhat over the top?
Dh did this last night and I thought something was seriously wrong! I've had cramp myself and usually quietly stretch out or sometimes stand to sort it, certainly don't shout out in pain.
But I am prepared to admit I'm bu if others have had it much more severely than I have, I've just never heard of it being that bad.

I have calf cramps....agony! Shit shit shit arghhhhh is usually my shouty about it...everyones pain is different

Berlinlover · 03/04/2024 09:20

I have cried out in pain more than once due to leg cramp, it’s something that can’t be helped.

Sandwichgen · 03/04/2024 09:20

I’ve done it!

Svolvaer · 03/04/2024 09:20

I've had cramp in my calf in the night a few times and cried out with the pain. It can be agonising.

pleasehelpagirlout · 03/04/2024 09:20

I’ve had some horrific leg cramps in the past. I don’t get them often, maybe once or twice a year but they are agony until they go. I’ve definitely woke up suddenly and shouted ouch at a couple of them!

MiddleParking · 03/04/2024 09:20

Charley horse cramps in the night are horrendously painful. Like being set alight.

Hermittrismegistus · 03/04/2024 09:20

Cramp can be incredibly painful.

redalex261 · 03/04/2024 09:21

Yep. I’ve screeched in agony with cramp.

kindletimeisfinetime · 03/04/2024 09:21

I've done it too. Soooooo painful

BumpyaDaisyevna · 03/04/2024 09:21

YABU

If you have it really badly it is absolute agony. I have only had it once or twice but was screaming and woke the whole house.

There's cramp (twinges/pain)and then the really serious agony.

I'm a very stoic woman who has had two babies with no pain relief and didn't make a sound - midwives commented on it!

But when you have cramp really badly you cannot help screaming.

Muddywoof · 03/04/2024 09:21

Yeah I've definitely been there. Catches you off guard and is agony.

Yes and they come out of no where so the shock involved doesn’t help when you’re soundo!

BCBird · 03/04/2024 09:21

I heard it can be agony.

Elephantswillnever · 03/04/2024 09:21

I’m with you I’ve had cramp a few times recently ( think I am deficient in something) and it is agony. I quietly drag myself to the top stair and stretch it out. I wouldn’t consider shouting and waking up the house.

foghead · 03/04/2024 09:21

I've had cramp too and just stretch and breathe through it quietly if it's the middle of the night. I'd be annoyed with dh if he woke me up dramatically like that.

Inmydreams88 · 03/04/2024 09:21

When I was a teenager I had some really awful ones that made me sit up and yell out from the pain. Luckily I’ve never had them as an adult.

Summerdazed · 03/04/2024 09:22

I think it depends. I've had a range of cramp, most of which doesn't need shouting about but sometimes it's been really sore.

I think some times you're more likely to shout out at night because it wakes you with a jolt, and you're a bit dazed and confused.

The same as you're more likely to shout out about hearing a noise or being startled at night because your brain hasn't kicked in.

I'm assuming that dp has form for this type of drama though and that's why your suspecting that it wasn't valid?

user1567879667589 · 03/04/2024 09:22

I’ve had two kids with gas and air…I’d rather do that again than have cramp, it’s agony. And the way it wakes you up a few seconds before it gets going, so you get to enjoy the whole performance. Just be grateful it’s not you OP!

WhatWouldJeevesDo · 03/04/2024 09:23

It can be that bad.

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 03/04/2024 09:23

I sometimes have leg cramps and it’s excruciating, far worse than giving birth. It’s so bad I nearly pass out. I must admit to squealing when it’s bad.

Arthurnewyorkcity · 03/04/2024 09:23

I suffer these and they're absolutely agony
I also wake screaming and the only way for me to get rid of them is to stand up but it Still leaves an ache. My partner is lovely though when he's awoken and checks I'm ok. Be glad you've not experienced them

Dearg · 03/04/2024 09:23

If it’s a one off - you are being mean. If this is a regular thing, then he needs to address it - is his diet deficient, is he sitting too long in one place , does he need to sleep in the shed? All valid questions imo.

Ps regular cramp in my feet sufferer after chemo. I seethe silently.

bellinisurge · 03/04/2024 09:24

Totally normal. If you get a cramp in sleep, it's highly likely you are going to shout first and think second.
It's a pain in the arse to be woken up like this but it's not unreasonable.
If it happens regularly and you don't see a doctor, then it's unreasonable.

ToxicChristmas · 03/04/2024 09:25

It's the shock of being woken up in pain -horrible.
I'm recovering from a broken ankle and get severe pain in the night (not sure why, I presume I must twist it an odd way while asleep or something) and it is shocking to wake up in the bout of agony. I've only cried out once, but I do have to grit my teeth and probably disturb DH moving around.

Daisypod · 03/04/2024 09:26

Ok fair enough I am bu. I think partly it's that dh had also been up a lot in the night to go to the loo and woke me every time so I'm a bit tired too. He's still in bed though so I haven't said anything to him yet and I shan't be having a go, glad I asked.
I have been up with the toddler for a couple of hours so hopefully he won't be feeling too bad when he gets up.
