As the title says really, Aibu to think shouting out in agony due to leg cramp in the middle of the night is somewhat over the top?
Dh did this last night and I thought something was seriously wrong! I've had cramp myself and usually quietly stretch out or sometimes stand to sort it, certainly don't shout out in pain.
But I am prepared to admit I'm bu if others have had it much more severely than I have, I've just never heard of it being that bad.

YABU

I get cramp every couple of weeks and it wakes me up and I shout out loud everytime and wake Dh up (not on purpose) it's so painful & I don't even realise what's happening for a few seconds, makes me awfully lightheaded too

NamelessNinja · 03/04/2024 21:48

YABU. I would have agreed as hadn't experienced bad cramp until pregnancy but oh my god were those calf cramps agony. I say this having given birth three times without pain relief so my pain threshold is pretty high!

Of course. I have read a fair few threads on here and thought 'they went to the GP with that?!' tend not to say it though, because people have varied tolerances.

Never wake me up for a cramp though or you're off my list for the zombie apocalypse 😉

I’d let a zombie eat my brains (as long as it was quick) to stop pain like that!

Decent plan that. Bait! Grin

I’ve seen my GP about my cramp. In my case it’s just one of those things. My dad also used to suffer, so I blame him.

As others have said, it hits when you are fast asleep. I jump out of bed in terrible pain and in shock. I’ve tried everything to relieve it when it strikes but hobbling around the bedroom and waiting for it to go is the only thing to do. My affected leg is always very sore for days afterwards.

@Manyandyoucanwalkover

try this next time.

use your foot of your non cramping leg to push down on the top part of your heel (back of ankle) and push down, like taking off trainers that are still laced up. It forces your toes towards your leg and stretches out your calf.

foes that make sense?

The cramp is in my thigh. It’s the biggest muscle in your body and boy when it cramps it hurts.

AnxiousRabbit · 03/04/2024 23:04

Yes I have shouted in pain and also woken him for help.
Cramp is possibly one of the most intense pains and I have seen sports players in tears due to the pain. The bigger your muscles often the worse it is.

often mine occurs in a way that I need help to stretch it out fully.

Saintmariesleuth · 03/04/2024 23:14

I've had cramp in my calf a few times and have shouted and jumped out of bed to stretch it before I've realised what I'm doing. I feel very sorry for your DH if this is happening to him

@Manyandyoucanwalkover

i mostly get it in my calf.

But this still works if it's in my thigh.

I used to get both when skiing. Always fun 🤬🤬🤬

CarrotCake01 · 04/04/2024 00:24

This is rare for me but a few times when I was pregnant I would suddenly have leg cramp in the night and I think I shouted out in pain too to be fair!

DiscoBeat · 04/04/2024 00:25

He tries to keep quiet about it but it really is so painful I don't complain, obviously! If it happens I get magnesium spray and a pint of water for him, but then we're like that. He'll get me a hot water bottle and paracetamol if I have period pains.

Toofattofly · 04/04/2024 01:32

Yabu. I'm sure your dh would rather be asleep than screaming in agony in the middle of the night!
And to those who smugly profess they lie there quietly stretching it out & deep breathing - yabu too. You've obviously not had really bad cramp. You stretch a bit too much in your sleep & then the cramp is agony- goes into spasm & really burns, and it is agony.
