Am I About to loose my driving licence for speeding offences

Please help as I’m in a panic and can’t speak to anyone official until tomorrow .
I’ve just had a letter informing me of my fourth speeding offence . They are all for doing 22-24 mph in a 20 zone near my house
im so upset and feel so stupid . I drove up and down this road 6 days a week ( so 12 trips )
About a year ago I got 3 speeding tickets in 3 weeks when they installed a camera . I’ve been so careful since then , creeping up the road every day while staring at my Speedo to ensure I stay within the limit . But today I have a letter to say I was doing 23 a week ago
please be gentle as I know I’ve been reckless
and I know how safe 20 mph zones are .

Is there any chance I won’t loose my licence , or is it automatic . A quick google doesn’t look good . I’m so so upset with myself

Do you have any points on your licence already?

not helpful

tomorrowisanotherdate · 01/04/2024 21:22

Op, best plan to be without your car for a little while , you will be fine

Hoplittlebunnyhophophopandstop · 01/04/2024 21:23

Yep.

Who is delivering your post on a bank holiday?

cockeyedoptimist · 01/04/2024 21:23

Well I assume I have 9 points as I think that’s what it said when I paid three fines in as many weeks last year -( each fine came with 3 points ) . But I will find way to check

So you already have nine points from a year ago and what does your letter say? If you’ve been formally caught it will tell you whether to send in your licence or whether a course is a possibility.

How extraordinarily unkind you are.

Fizzadora · 01/04/2024 21:24

Weren't you offered a speed awareness course instead of the points?

HulaChick · 01/04/2024 21:25

Did you do a speed awareness course? If you do that and don't pay the fine then you don't get points (unless you're massively over the limit)

It just seems particularly bad today for some reason.

You can look it up on .gov.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 01/04/2024 21:26

Did you get a speed awareness course for one of them? That would mean only 9 points.

SeismicSalad · 01/04/2024 21:26

This seems weird. I thought enforcement only began at 10% +2, which would be 24mph? Also, surely you were offered a speed awareness course for the first one?

So what?

Letter says course is possibility. Doesn’t ask to semd
licence , so maybe I haven't got 9 as I thought .
I’m already checking bus routes to work and making plans to be without my car . I’m disabled so it’s going to be very difficult, but possible

Have you done the speed awareness courses & paid the fines?

Dont you have to send off your licence if you get points?

Or you’re being a nit picky arsehole for some reason.

My post has received several likes and I only posted it eight minutes ago so clearly a lot of people agree with me.

I always assumed this was an urban myth

easilydistracted1 · 01/04/2024 21:30

Does the letter come with an offer of a speed awareness course? If so definitely opt for that. If not and you already have 9 points I would get some urgent legal advice. As you are likely to get banned but you can attempt to avoid it if you have compelling circumstances. It seems very strict to get banned over such a small margin over the limit. The enforcement team must be very strict for that route. Can you avoid it as it does not seem like this is sustainable!

Gcsunnyside23 · 01/04/2024 21:30

If these were all that small you should have been offered a speed awareness course instead for at least the first set? I also think there is an appeal process you could instigate against losing your licence

Nevermindtheteacaps · 01/04/2024 21:31

You should have a clear record of how many points you have, check your latest correspondence from the DVLA?

Yes if you have 9 points and you get 3 more you will get a ban. But you don't know if you actually have 9 points
