To want every women in England to vote Tory at the GR

1000 replies

Hurrydash · 28/03/2024 02:01

So I don't agree with Angela Rayner's description of the Tories as scum, but I get her drift and if she'd been more tempered in her language I probably would have bought in.

HOWEVER

For me - and actually should be got everyone - the only real issue at the next GE is freedom of speech/women's rights.

I see Labour as the destroyer of these and so must vote against them. The only meaningful way to do this is to vote Tory which I am reluctant but prepared to do.

Is this unreasonable?

Happy to be convinced - for real not just words - if there is evidence Labour (Starmer 1 in 1000 women have a dick) may see the light before the GE.

Love how people think things will suddenly improve under Labour. They struggle to get their own party in order - God knows what they'll do to the country!

As far as I'm concerned, Tory and Labour are two cheeks of the same arse.

There is no political party with a perfect arse. They're all dreadful, it's a question of picking the one with the slight less heinous arse cheek than the other s that you can face putting up with for 5 + years.

its absolutely the case that if Labour get in, we won't see significant change for a long time to come.

They will be handed the same shit show of an economy, it's what they choose to do next.

The fact Labour is even talking about the Levelling Up Agenda that Johnson had spoken about, and they aren't trying to invent a new wheel, but acknowledge that it has to be a priority to mitigate the gross inequality of opportunity and potential in the UK gives me hope they aren't trying to come out with slick sound bytes that lack credibility.

I'm willing to give their arse a chance Grin

For me, what pushed me out of feminist circles was that it was the ONLY thing being discussed, and it was a discussion dominated by white, well-off women. Try and talk about women and poverty, the gender pay gap, parenting, even prostitution and nobody cared - feminism became a single-issue movement. Perhaps ironically, it's what pushed me towards getting involved with local politics and local homelessness charities instead, because at least that does something positive to actively help women who are struggling with poverty etc.

This.

jazzyclouds · 28/03/2024 14:23

No. No fucking chance. The Tory party hate women - see all their austerity policies, benefits freeze for nearly a decade, two child policy etc, which disproportionally affect women.

Can't you see you are being played here?! They are just using this one issue to try get votes.

Dottymug · 28/03/2024 14:24

No. Never. I will never, ever forgive them for what they have done to this country. It has been royally fucked by the most corrupt government we have ever had. They are toast in the next election and they deserve to be.

isitonly13years · 28/03/2024 14:25

Just to point out that actual management of schools including their roofs is the Local Government responsibility. As the local roads is.

Cattenberg · 28/03/2024 14:25

Local Authorities have been screwed over by the Tories too.

But they aren't - that phrase was coined by a daft opportunist self publicist who also praised Saddam.
Of course it suits the Tory cause to pretend Labour are no better or no different - but even the most hard-bitten Tory must see they couldn't do any worse than this current crop of Tories.

You want another five years of ... THIS ??! <\gestures wildly at everything> No. Fuck off.

My thoughts exactly @Pixit!

Lifeomars · 28/03/2024 14:27

Tories have cost many lives, lives lost due to austerity and lives lost in the pandemic. They have decimated the economy, polluted our waterways, we have crumbling schools, an NHS that is on its knees, a crippling cost of living crisis, 4 million kids living in poverty and the highest taxes for 70 years. Then there is the corruption, the utter lack of talent, Gullis as Deputy Chair, if you didn't laugh you would weep. Do you really think they give a damm about anyone other than the very wealthy? I for one hope that they are obliterated at the next election. they need time to clear out all the extreme right wingers who have taken over the party. I have never voted Tory and I never will but in the past I could respect the intellect and talent that senior members of previous Tory governments had. These days it is all 3 word soundbites rooted in hate . Brexit which powered Johnson into No 10 has wrecked this country and placed limitations on young people's freedoms and choices. I repeat, all they care about is the wealthy and making them even richer.

Councils' budgets have been so massively slashed by the Conservatives that loads of them are going bust.

Indeed. And the Local Councils have for the most part been starved by successive Tory governments

EasternStandard · 28/03/2024 14:28

horseyhorsey17 · 28/03/2024 14:22

There was a noticeable rightwards drift though, which is only to be expected if feminist orgs and individuals are allying with the fundamentalist right wing Christian organisations. As a socialist feminist myself, this was an absolutely massive turn-off for me.

I think feminism is inherently left wing and you can't be right wing and a (true) feminist - but that's another thread for another day...

Tbh I don't ally with anyone beyond other women who care about single sex, safeguarding and prioritising women not men.

I’m relieved and grateful women are speaking up. I see quite a few attempts to stop that. It’s a shame that there are so many angles all focussed on women to stop speaking up.

And no to last point, especially when you see what is happening in Scotland, Canada and NZ previously, but probably another thread.

TooBigForMyBoots · 28/03/2024 14:29

Of course YABU OP. The Tory Pary is anti-woman.

The only Tories who don't hate women, don't give a shit about us.

Dottymug · 28/03/2024 14:29

Agreed @Lifeomars. Jonathan Fucking Gullis. Why would ANYONE vote for more of that?

Pipsquiggle · 28/03/2024 14:31

One last post.........

Hope the Tories stay out of power for a very long time. They don't care about women, they don't care about gender identity. They don't care about equality.

They only care about money and power and what keeps them there

Xenia · 28/03/2024 14:13

I want people to do so too. Please also vote for Susan Hall if you live in London, in May for mayor. We have not had a female major of London and she has done masses of work here in outer London for many years. It is not right to have a major for 3 whole terms so even if you are a fan of Khan i t is time for a change. Even if you cannot be bothered to vote do it for me as I am subject to outer London ulez which Susan Hall will abolish on day one.

The only thing more ridiculous than OP demanding everyone vote Tory because she's GC, is you asking people to vote for that racist nut job for Mayor so you can drive a gas-guzzling 4x4 around London with impunity.

Thanks for that, I needed a laugh. I am sure you realise that it was Johnson who introduced ULEZ.

isitonly13years · 28/03/2024 14:33

@horseyhorsey17 & @poetryandwine ,true, budgets have been reduced, but they should have prioritised safety of buildings which they bought new 30 years ago so had all the details.
Where do you both think the money needed will come from?

Annasoror · 28/03/2024 14:33

I would never vote Tory. You are being utterly ridiculous.

Fantapops · 28/03/2024 14:33

Sorry, so you think that the Tories are feminist enough to actually protect women, just because they know what a woman is.

Are you aware of how ridiculously stupid that sounds? Are you aware of how much damage to feminism the Tories have actually done?

I have my own, nuanced and thoughtful, perspective on 'the trans debate' and I don't believe any party is handling it very well. I'm certainly not going to vote for the Tories so that they can continue making life hard for women just because they know how to spot one.

Good god. If this is what British feminism is these days then how bloody embarrasing.

Much as I agree with you in that hope, the reality is that the British electorate - on aggregate - has the intelligence and attention span of a sponge pudding. The result of that is that Labour will get one term and be voted out five years later because they haven't magically fixed 15 years of shit in a single term.

Raspberrymoon49 · 28/03/2024 14:34

Hell will freeze over before I vote for Tory scum bags, how much more damage can they do

Fun Thank You GIF by Carawrrr

It's a shame @Hurrydash never returned to the thread. I'd like to thank her for starting it. It has made for very heartening reading. Very good to know how few single issue voters there actually are.

Yes, it has been a refreshing read, good to see so many people using logic and reason over emotion.

I do think women need to be careful that our hard-won rights don't slip away. I definitely feel more needs to be done in schools to separate out identity issues from issues around self-harm, neurodiversity, eating disorders etc, especially with girls. don't think the GC issue is the threat to our very existence that some GC feminists do though.

And also, I do some work and campaigning around prisons, as the lack of support for prisoners when they leave prison is something I feel very strongly about. Got to say - you don't see many feminist organisations getting involved. The issue of women's rights in prisons seems to be one they care more about in principle than in practice.
