brushing hair at desk in office - Yea or Nay?

AIBU to brush my hair at my desk or should I go to the loo to brush it. For context share office with one other person who I doubt cares. But is it bad etiquette? I have long hair.

It’s a nay from me.

Allywill · 21/03/2024 09:30

and no from me.

NCForQuestions · 21/03/2024 09:30

Couldn't give a shit. Crack on unless you're standing over people to have space to do it.

This is not exactly intimate care.

Hedgerow2 · 21/03/2024 09:30

No from me

Thingsthatgo · 21/03/2024 09:30

Blergh. Nope, I suspect this is a reverse.
I really hate it when people do it on the train, especially when people gather any loose hairs and drop them on the floor.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 21/03/2024 09:30

I've done it once in the office when I was pushed for time and there wasn't many others around.

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 21/03/2024 09:32

No, it’s a bit grim

KimberleyClark · 21/03/2024 09:33

No from me. Don’t want your hairs/bits of your scalp on my desk and yes everyone’s scalp flakes to some degree. It just seems a bit showoffy look at my lovely long hair too.

MaggieFS · 21/03/2024 09:34

Nope. It's not pleasant for others.

Mazuslongtoenail · 21/03/2024 09:34

Christ, people are actually bothered by this kind of thing?!

Astrak · 21/03/2024 09:34

No. The cloakroom is there for a purpose. I wouldn't want other people's hair on my desk.

Rosewood86 · 21/03/2024 09:35

This wouldn't bother me at all!

TempleOfBloom · 21/03/2024 09:35

No, go elsewhere.

But I admit my irritation over hair fiddling and grooming has peaked due to the behaviour of people on public transport and crowded areas. So many women with long hair sort of smooth it down and then flick it all back, I have twice been brushed by someone else’s flung back hair.

How can it be necessary to brush your hair at your desk? What has happened to it since you sat down?

I don’t think anybody would go to your desk to brush their hair.

Limth · 21/03/2024 09:35

Depends.

Quickly running a brush through short-ish hair to get the wind-knots out = fine.

Sitting down to luxuriously caress one's lengthy locks Disney princess style = no.

TomeTome · 21/03/2024 09:36

It’s a no from me. Do it in the toilet, that’s why there’s a mirror there.

Topseyt123 · 21/03/2024 09:36

Brush it wherever you want to. It's fine. You're tidying up your hair, not scratching your arse.

I see no issues and doubt I would even notice if someone did this.

TheFancyPoet · 21/03/2024 09:37

The loo, for sure. It is basic respect

Upinthenightagain · 21/03/2024 09:37

I had a roommate at university that complained to the management company that I brushed my hair in the living room. I realised at that point that people are funny about this sort of thing. Personally it wouldn’t bother me

Mumoftwo1312 · 21/03/2024 09:37

I vote nay but I do often put in my contact lenses at the sink in the office/equipment room. Which is probably quite gross but the loos are a 5 min walk each way and sometimes I can't spare 10mins!

But hair brushing is less essential. I don't even brush my hair everyday, I can definitely avoid doing it in the office

Edit - I'm exaggerating with the 5 mins. Still, very much in another building

pinkmushroom5 · 21/03/2024 09:38

Wouldn't bother me and I'm surprised at the number of people who would care.

Depends on your hair type surely? I usually have to give mine a quick brush a couple of times during the day or it gets tangled and messy.

KreedKafer · 21/03/2024 09:40

It’s brushing hair, not changing a tampon. It’s perfectly fine and normal to run a brush through your hair at your desk.

(I suspect being repulsed by hair-brushing is one of those things that only actually occurs on Mumsnet, along with people who get annoyed by being given flowers and people who think it’s antisocial to wear perfume.)

MadamVastra · 21/03/2024 09:41

What the hell is grim (hate that word) about brushing hair? What will happen? Whats inconsiderate about it seeing as we shed hair skin and all sorts just by existing?

the world is mad

BarrelOfOtters · 21/03/2024 09:41

Right, it seems to be a no from a lot of people. I've been wondering.
