To be irritated about DP and the tunnel?

DP (we don’t live together) has just moved into a new house. It’s in a right state, needs ridiculous amounts of work doing to it including a whole new heating system (currently just has coal fires in each room!) new bathrooms (of which there are 3) and roofing repairs etc etc - he kind of inherited it but not completely, he has had to pay for it but at a daft price. It’s a listed building with land, pretty isolated.

Anyway! He’s been in there a few weeks and found a tunnel in the basement that was bricked up but the bricks had began to fall apart which is how the tunnel came to light. I found this fascinating and asked where it led and he said he didn’t know. I asked “did you not go in it??” And he said “no, it won’t be anything excited”. Why would you not go in it?? I’m desperate to know where it leads!! I’ve asked him a few times to have a look and he said he has more important things to be doing - I can’t get my head around it!!

im staying there at weekend and I said I’m going to explore the tunnel - he rolled his eyes and said “ffs can you stop fascinating over that stupid tunnel?”

it’s making me quite annoyed

You can’t go in without three other people and a dog - he is waiting for them to arrive before he sets off.

Timothy!

Go and watch the film "Barbarian" op. 🤣🤣🤣

It's giving me the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it! I'd have a proper survey done before I'd step foot in it.

This! Please don’t go into it without getting it properly surveyed- it could easily collapse on you and kill you.

AuntieJoyce · 18/03/2024 22:04

Are you Agatha Raisin?

TesticularHeft · 18/03/2024 22:05

No, no, no! Leave it be! We have been through enough. Ive watched enough horror movies to know that if someone has built a wall to hide a tunnel, no good will come from going down there!

Finlesswonder · 18/03/2024 22:08

Why would a house be built with a tun el to a church?

malmi · 18/03/2024 22:15

It's a time travelling tunnel. Each time you go through it sends you back to the first day of your relationship with DP, This is the first time you have posted it to Mumsnet though so we can tell you it's time to break the cycle. Don't go through the tunnel.

LoveSkaMusic · 18/03/2024 22:15

Oh do promise us you'll update this thread with pics when you go in!!

Ooh there might be treasure! 🪙💎

JordanPeterson · 18/03/2024 22:41

It does speak to a certain lack of curiosity & sense of excitement

To be so blasé about a secret tunnel on your property

Mynaddmawr · 18/03/2024 22:52

YANBU, obviously there is something wrong with him. How could you not go down the secret tunnel?!

Caerulea · 18/03/2024 23:00

Well sure as hell I'd be stood in the mouth of tunnel coaxing DH down it, I'd HAVE to know what it was...fucked if you'd get me down there though.

Also, your title definitely sounds like a Famous Five book.

delphi13 · 18/03/2024 23:10

Our village has quite a few tunnels as it's an old smugglers village. We viewed another house before settling on the house we bought and it had a weird cellar bit in the living room that had a blocked up tunnel that led to the pub. Literal stuff of dreams! Except the bit to the cellar was lethal and our then 2.5 year old would surely have broken his neck within 20 minutes of moving in so we didn't buy it in the end. We live 5 mins from that pub but I really wish I had a tunnel to take me there. It would be so cool.

CrushingOnRubies · 18/03/2024 23:22

I'd have to go down there but I'm a scardey cat and have watched enough horror movies so would need a buddy with me. Would also take a torch and a hard hat !

brainexplorer · 18/03/2024 23:24

Why are you on mumsnet when you could be tunnelling in a tunnel right now?? This is my dream. None of my houses have ever had a tunnel and I feel absolutely robbed. My sister had a secret compartment under her last house (also Georgian) that she was utterly disinterested in and wouldn't let me smash into either.

MummyFriend · 18/03/2024 23:32

Oh my goodness, I am so invested. Please please please do keep us updated. These discoveries often turn out to be pretty exciting!

Send a drone down with a camera. And then post the footage so we can all see too!

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 18/03/2024 23:58

I'd want life insurance on him first.

BestZebbie · 19/03/2024 00:09

In a Georgian house (under the garden), it is likely to be a water cistern.

Ugh. No way. Definitely a pirate tunnel. Probably filled with treasure and rum.
