We have a granny annexe separate from our house. An old lady died in there before we bought the property. When entering the annexe at night, there was always a strong feeling of hostility emanating from the place. My daughter went in there with her friends, just to have a teen party. She heard a voice saying to her 'Get out of my house!' She was shocked. I would never want to go in there - the vibe was so strong. We had it exorcised by a Catholic priest, to no avail. A few years later we handed the problem over to a certain Indian spiritual teacher, and bang! the old lady was gone, and has never returned.

ButterflyBitch · 17/03/2024 18:49

No I don’t. Certainly not as something that can haunt you or move around of its own free will. Maybe as an ‘imprint’ from the past. I swear blind I saw a ghost when I worked in a care home as a teenager. I have no other explanation as to what I saw but I don’t believe in them. Sounds weird but I think if they exist then it’s pretty rare to actually see one.

Terrribletwos · 17/03/2024 18:52

So what is the point of ghosts? Why don't we see animal ghosts?

@Howbizarre22 you are right, humans don’t know everything. We do however know some things, and ghosts are incompatible with our knowledge of how the universe works.

Some humans think they know everything. Like the arrogant know it all's on here that are so so sure that there is no such thing as ghosts.

Sad sad people that can't have an open mind

I was sceptical until we moved to our current house 10 years ago. I believe it’s what you might call a mischievous spirit. Ornaments flying off cabinets, being moved overnight. One night whilst in bed it honestly sounded like the wardrobe had fallen over. Even my sceptical husband couldn’t put a scientific spin on that one. We’ve even heard knocking on the bedroom wall, and there’s no one in the spare room. I was even contemplating having my neighbour who was a vicar coming and blessing the house. I had ornaments flying off the bedroom window boards out of the open windows, I watched them falling whilst sitting in the room below, so surreal. It happened more than once. We also had mirrors that not only fell off the wall, no broken strings, but launched themselves several feet away from the wall.

The final straw came when there was a loud banging coming from the dining room, the dogs were all on tenterhooks wondering what on earth was happening. I got up and basically shouted at whatever was causing it, I’d had enough, told them it was time to stop as they were frightening the dogs. This was 3 years ago and we haven’t heard anything since, fingers crossed. I have no explanation for it and I’m still mystified by the strange goings on. No one has died in the house, and none of the previous neighbours had any strange goings on.

The world has been around for millions of years

IncompleteSenten · 17/03/2024 18:58

If an open mind means my brains fall out I'll keep it closed thanks.

Alicewinn · 17/03/2024 18:59

Yes there are energies we can’t usually see

Possibly micro tremors?

Comedycook · 17/03/2024 18:59

No.

IncompleteSenten · 17/03/2024 19:01

I'll be more than willing to shout from the rooftops I'm completely wrong and ghosts are real...
The second someone shows some proof. Scientific proof. Lab conditions. Verified by further studies. Actual evidence.

I've got no problem taking out a billboard sign saying I was totally wrong.

Do amoebas have ghosts?

Yes I do, I’ve had a couple of experiences in my life in which I felt a spirit was present

Your mind is very powerful and can play some mad tricks on you.

It definitely wasn’t my mind creating these experiences. Each time there were 2 or 3 other people who heard and saw the same things

Mammajay · 17/03/2024 19:07

Relatively few people die at home now so proportionately less possible ghosts

BobbyBiscuits · 17/03/2024 19:08

No. But people can feel stuff that can make them believe in it. I guess as a comfort? The only thing close to it was the day after my dad died, I felt an amazing feeling, like some sort of energy passing through me followed by a rush of wellbeing. I took it as my dad's spirit telling me I would be ok. It was probably just a trauma response to being a suddenly bereaved child.

I presume the afterlife has rules. You have to haunt the place you died. Like that film beetlejuice.

Grazyna80 · 17/03/2024 19:11

No I don’t believe in ghosts! I do wish they existed though. My dad died when I was 7 and I always asked him to come back and visit me, and he never did. Ergo, ghosts don’t exist because if they did , he would have! Shame

Strugglingtodomybest · 17/03/2024 19:16

I don't believe in ghosts. I think that the human brain and it's complexities are to answer for most "sightings".

My SIL believes in ghosts, and shortly after her dad died, she sent us a photo which she said showed the ghost of their dad.

It was so so obviously her reflection in the window! But in her grief, her brain let her believe it was her dad.

According to certain Buddhist and Hindu teachings, a soul which has left its body only becomes a ghost under certain conditions, such as undergoing a violent or premature death, or not having the correct funeral rituals performed, or being deeply attached to things, places or people.

And does the same apply to mosquitos, for example ?
