Bloody hell. Sounds more like pornography than bbc prime time

Hardly! It was a very emotional event. She 'passed through the gate of Herbert' to the 3rd layer and was shown the way by a kindly spirit guide called Larsson who had a big dragon tattoo.

Can you link to this actual footage of a ghost being sucked off on the BBC?

Yes, it is on iplayer

Ghosts Series 4, Episode 4. The actual 'sucking off' of Mary occurs 1 minute and 13 seconds in.
It's very sudden and emotional.
Very clear though- no dispute about what happens.

BrownBoot · 30/12/2024 19:51

Depends what you mean by “ghosts”.

If you mean do I think the spirits of dead people walk amongst us and are sometimes see by the living - then no.

If you mean do people see or experience things that they (mistakenly) interpret as being the spirits of dead people - then yes.

I’ve never heard of an experience for which there wasn’t a more obvious rational explanation.

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 30/12/2024 20:11

Yes, I had to have a priest at my house the works.

BernardBlacksBreakfastWine · 30/12/2024 22:20

These threads can be quite frustrating, I find (though I did enjoy the ref to Mary’s sucking off).

Although many people don’t like it, there are many, many odd and apparently inexplicable things that have happened to many, many people. Some can probably be explained but some can’t. What’s clear is that, for some people, these experiences have been profound and have led to practically a lifetime of agonising.

What irks me, in the face of all this, is the distinct lack of thought that goes into some of the glib dismissals of anything ghostly - comments like ‘why aren’t there any ghosts in modern dress?’ Or ‘ha, if ghosts were real then [insert some completely arbitrary and nonsensical condition that the person has randomly decided makes anything paranormal impossible].

People experience all sorts of odd phenomena. Not all of it is grey ladies 🙄. If there were any truth to the world of the paranormal, you can be fairly sure it wouldn’t fit any simplistic model we’ve come up with!

I was happy that Mary was sucked off, but it wasn't the same after.

Mumkins42 · 30/12/2024 23:50

I'd love it to be true. I wish it was true tbh.

But I believe it's absolute nonsense and I don't believe people have really encountered ghosts. If anyone tells me they literally saw their dead granny walk across the room and talk to them I'm never going to believe that and will think you're either literally dreaming, hallucinating, having an adverse drug reaction or deluded .

I do believe people have experiences where they feel and sense things that are unexplainable. This I can believe and ponder what was the cause that experience.

It wasn't the same afterwards. I wasn't happy about Mary being 'sucked-off'. I was shocked and missed her terribly. I can't imagine the other side of the Gate of Herbert in the '3rd Layer' is more interesting than living at Button House with the Captain, Pat, Fanny , Robin, Kitty, Humphrey and Julien (and Alison and Mike). I'd be glad to be rid of the cellar ghosts though if I lived there.

Mummyratbag · 31/12/2024 09:49

@LuluBlakey1 - She wanted to be sucked off and be with Annie though, but yes you are probably right.

maxwellparker77 · 31/12/2024 09:51

Of course not!

This actually made me laugh!

I have seen what I'm certain is a ghost, and heard one, too.
Staying at a young person's hostel, my own room, on my first night there {I lived there for over a year} ..I in bed, and an elderly man walked in, I thought ''He's in the wrong room...then ''If you weren't so solid, I'd think you were a ghost''...I could see his silhouette, wearing a trilby and overcoat, he was looking around, then down at me..I was looking at him through half closed eyes. I couldn't see his face.He didn't appear threatening, he seemed perplexed.

Next morning, in reception, 'I asked who the man was who'd come into my room.
They said ''no one has been through into your room, there has been someone on duty here all night, there are no older men here, only Eric, and he's away..{When I saw Eric, a few days later, it definitely wasn't him.}

I never saw the man again.
I had to put a date on his clothing, 1940's?

Would you not scream though if someone strange was in your room? Wouldn't you be so surprised you would freak out??

I’ll tell you where I had a very horrible feeling as well, I went to the British Museum and when you stood in the bit that’s got all the Egyptian stuff the tombs and the hieroglyphic stuff . I think it’s at the bottom main bit it was a long time ago that I went anyway. I suddenly realise it was just me and the security guard seemed a little bit far away and they just seemed a very dark energy and I was like I would not want to be here alone at night because it just felt very bizarre has anybody ever felt that going into that part of the museum? Very heavy atmosphere

Honestly, it’s just the low lighting, and the high ceilings, and the fact that the space feels kind of oppressive.

SorcererGaheris · 31/12/2024 17:08

I believe in ghosts (as well as spirits generally) and also seek to communicate with them.

stonejam · 31/12/2024 17:37

Yes but not the way it’s portrayed on TV, an energy type of spirit when the flesh dies.

ButteryBiscuitBalonz · 31/12/2024 17:42

Mary loves Dick.

But if it were true why no photography or videography to prove it. Or are they all invisible?

I think this is another of those ‘why are all ghosts Victorian?’ questions; you’ll find loads of videos of the paranormal online. The problem is, videos mean nothing these days! My 12 year-old daughter can knock up a fairly convincing video that seems to show her moving things with her mind…

Nah. It's always an old lady in grey, 15th century soilders, etc never dan from 2009 in a tracksuit who got run over is it. If they were real, someone would have caught evidence on film by now..decent imagery not a blurry image

If a ghost' is in modernish clothing would 5hey not generally blend 8n with the rest of us?

Well, maybe. But wouldn’t emerging through the floor walking through walls give them away?
