Why is there absolutely no way to access money?

I lost my bank card last Friday. This bank does not have any emergency cash option. I ordered a replacement bank card. It should be with me at the end of next week.

I have another bank account with a different bank. I just opened it a couple of weeks ago. So no money in it yet. I have a bank card for the second account.

On friday eve , i tried to transfer money from my first bank account to my second bank account using the mobile apps.

It said on the app that if you transfer at the weekend , it won't go through till the next business day. Next Monday is a bank holiday in ireland, so the transfer won't go through until Tuesday.

I've then tried to download revolut, as it is meant to do instant transfers even at weekends.

Revolut won't work for me, as no matter how many times I've taken different photos of my passport, it says the passport is not clear enough.

I really need to access my money to pay for something next Monday. I can't wait till tuesday.

Is there absolutely no way to access money without a bank card. ?

I agree tbh. I keep about £20-30 cash in the house for emergencies just in case.

Jeaus christ

Haven't I already said that I did have loads of emergency cash in the house! Yes I did say that. Many times

Jesus christ what a stressful thread 🙈🙈 are people on the vino or what? Seems half the posters can't read and the other half can't comprehend that not every country is like the UK.
Have a stiff drink for yourself op , you deserve it after this thread 🍀🍀

Firstly she said you couldn't transfer to any bank then She's keeps insisting that it's not possible to transfer to other banks despite others and me saying it is. She's making the Irish banking system sound like something from the Stone Age..... it really isn't! I work in the industry and she's spreading misinformation

if you work for Bank of Ireland please bloody improve the bloody website and app. its the worst ever 😫 every bloody month my husband will be screaming at the phone or website. up there with the bloody revenue website as most in user friendly

You say you pay it off in full every month

Then why not just use a debit card?
It sounds exactly like using a debit card

You said you get some vouchers back. I guess if you think that's worth it

Payments by credit cards also have Section 75 consumer protection on payments for things costing £100 - £30,000, which debit cards do not.

ThisGreyPoster · 17/03/2024 19:19

Not everyone is eligible for a credit card. You need a minimum income to get a free one.

No I got annoyed when people in the UK said over and over "why don't you use this UK bank"

And I've had to say about 10 times "that bank does not exist in ireland'!

I've said it so many times.

  • Are you in the UK Yourself?
what if i said to you over and over , "why don't you use bank of ireland?"

Would that annoy you?

Edited

While we’re at it, why do you keep quoting everyone twice? Just reply once with everything you want to say. Maybe you’re just not great with technology - would make sense, as others have managed to transfer instantly.

Ireland is not "backward" . That is a nasty thing to say.

The UK is three times larger than Ireland.

Do you really expect smaller countries to have the exact same services in place, as the larger countries do?

And why would you call anywhere backwards. That's just an awful thing to say.

Edited

The UK population is over 13 times that of Ireland.

ThisGreyPoster · 17/03/2024 19:33

@Sashamalia I would hide this thread. Once you attract posters who just attack anyone, they will not stop. It is not you, it is them.

Im well aware of that

When i said that the uk is three times the size of ireland, I was speaking geographically.

Not population size.

Because I'm allowed to quote people twice.?

That's a strange thing to get annoyed about isn't it.

I'm great with technology thanks

The absolute fact is : Bank of ireland do not transfer to other irish banks over the weekend

They've written it themselves on their website. Do you want to argue with Bank of Ireland, when they have written that themselves.

So it's nothing to do with me love. It's how they work.

Yes but it's pretty low, Barclaycard offer one if you earn £3k pa, and once you've shown you can correctly use a credit builder one, you can trade up to mainstream ones.

ThisGreyPoster · 17/03/2024 20:21

You cant have missed a bill. Loads of people have.
Credit cards are good to use but not everyone can get one.

HideTheCroissants · 17/03/2024 20:42

I totally understand that OP is wary of credit cards BUT if you’re canny then they can MAKE you money. As a household we put everything we can on a credit card and pay off in FULL every month. One of our cards gave us over £600 cash back last year! It is essential to pay the full amount every month for this to work though. One of our cards does have a fee but the cash back is far more than the fee.

Whyarepeoplesoweird · 17/03/2024 20:48

You can go into the bank and loft money out. The bank can also give you a code to use at their own at to withdraw funds. If tour bank doesn't do either of these and you have some shirty online bank only thing...time to get a real bank.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 17/03/2024 20:53

Last time this happened to me, I used a paypal account which I had connected to my bank account.

I don't remember how long it took to set it up, but is it possible that you already have a paypal account sorted, that you've forgotten about?

CagneyAndLazy · 17/03/2024 20:54

I can't believe how many people have come to tell OP that bank transfers by XYZ bank are definitely instant, because they assume she's in the UK.

OP must have said a dozen times that she's in ROI.

I have never ever had a bank transfer to a separate bank go through on a weekend in Ireland, let alone a bank holiday. I don't know what part of the industry you are working in but you are obviously pulling a few strings if you are making these transfers, as is the nature of this shite in Ireland.

How is the geographical size relevant to the discussion?

BOI can be hilariously bad.

When I applied for my credit card (Aer Lingus one, I have it paid off each month in full, but use it for the miles/free flights), their system was so baffled that I only had the card that it took me over a month, and many calls/emails/ to get a username issued, as there was no process to issue a username for the app (required to activate the card) if you didn't bank with them.

Mind you, An Post aren't any better - 2 full sets of statements that they assure they posted to me (wouldn't just keep at the post office for me to pick up with ID, had to come to the house) just disappeared into the ether - so either someone has my statements (potentially my old address, it's long since I switched off the forwarding), or their system lies to them.
