I am not voting for Labour or Con…

What party can I vote for that may have a chance? I do not want to waste a vote but may have to. As a young(ish) Black woman, none of the above present me. I was born here as were my parents. Originally from East Africa. Spent a lot of holidays there as a child but not so much as an adult, otherwise I would seriously think of going back to live there.

I have always voted Labour but they are disappointing. For the first time, I am thinking of not voting but it does not sit right within me.

I might try the Green Party I guess.

That's why they have civil servants. What you're basically doing here is arguing against change of government generally, and therefore you're arguing against democracy. Which I'm sure our current govt would be happy to do without.

I'm not arguing against anything. Just highlighting a wrinkle in the system.

KnittedCardi · 14/03/2024 11:54

Also just to add, I am not surprised Reform has a lot of support. Look to Europe and see the political spectrum changing. I suppose at least they have multi party systems which lend to more balance, but that balance is definitely moving right.

Asiatoyork · 14/03/2024 12:45

For me it’s even beyond the manifestos at this point (within reason). Standards in public life and political behaviour have been destroyed by the Tories. The main priority for me is getting them out. I genuinely believe Starmer is a heck of a lot more decent.

iwafs · 14/03/2024 12:48

I feel the same as you. Voting Con or Lab doesn't appeal to me at all.

I thought that there had been talk of a "none of the above" box. I would probably put a cross in that box.

Jovacknockowitch · 14/03/2024 12:51

As others have pointed out due to our shit system only Labour or the Tories have a chance to form the next government, so voting anything else in 99% of constituencies is just a waste unfortunately as your wishes will count for nothing.

I'm a woman of colour- will be voting Reform. Hate Tories ( used to vote for them in the past) and Labour doesn't represent my interests at all. It will be Reform for me

How does Reform align with your interests and values?

cardibach · 14/03/2024 12:54

Overthebow · 14/03/2024 08:25

Labour aren’t any better than conservatives. I don’t think I can vote for either party and have no idea who to vote for either.

This is just nonsense. The current Conservative Party is incompetent, corrupt and engaged in deliberately making things worse for people so they can funnel money to themselves/their friends. Labour are far from perfect , but they emphatically are not the same as this.

dontcryformeargentina · 14/03/2024 12:57

@ilovesooty They know what a woman is and advocate lower income taxes. Reform is not ideal but I hate them less than Conservatives and Labour.

cardibach · 14/03/2024 12:58

hosethepatio · 14/03/2024 09:00

I won't be voting for who I think will be best for me as an older white woman, I'll be voting for who I think might get the country back on its feet.

Sadly I can't work out who that is

It’s whoever will get the Tories out in your constituency. The Tories are the least likely to get the country back on its feet, therefore the imperative is to remove them.

ilovesooty · 14/03/2024 12:58

Interesting to see potential Reform voters showing their faces.

MississippiAF · 14/03/2024 13:01

I agree Op. There is no one to vote for.

Outofideas79 · 14/03/2024 10:32

In this election, any vote for a party that isn't Labour, is a vote for the Tories. As a youngish single working Mum, nothing the Conservatives stand for is going to help me, or has helped me at all and frankly nothing they stand for is helping this country. Previously I would have voted Lib Dem, but they are a spent force and who know what they actually stand for. So I will hold my nose a vote labour, because I genuinely believe that's the only choice.

That’s not true in every constituency. Please find out which candidate is most likely to unseat/keep out a Tory in yours and vote for them. Sometimes a vote for Labour risks enabling the Tories to get/keep the seat

BobbyBiscuits · 14/03/2024 13:02

Unfortunately the way the voting system works, to vote green would be to throw the vote away. I would say please do vote though. Labour will be better than the Tories. But voting for minority parties doesn't really work right now. Though of course it's your choice.

Which public services will they cut to fund these lower taxes? Bet you my bottom dollar they would affect women more (they generally do).

BobnLen · 14/03/2024 13:05

I’ll be voting Reform this time

In what way will they actually make women's lives better?

dontcryformeargentina · 14/03/2024 13:13

@Ilovesooty don't you worry about my vote. Labour will win anyway. However, by voting Reform , the message will be sent to our political elite that they can't ignore public.

You seem to be spoiling for a fight, ain't no one got time for that, read this:

Pieceofpurplesky · 14/03/2024 13:16

Scares me that women actually want to vote for reform, Lee Anderson joined them because he 'just wants his country back' and you only need to do a quick google to see why he was evicted from the tories.

The 'policies' that they promote are unworkable and will impact women more than men.

Pieceofpurplesky · 14/03/2024 13:20

@MobileStationery I have read it. Scaremongering, racist bollocks.

passthepenguin · 14/03/2024 13:21

I will be voting Tory. It will be a wasted vote otherwise. Yes they haven’t been great but Labour will be so much worse.

Some mps in the Labour Party appear to be in support of the gender ideology cult which means a higher chance of children being indoctrinated and exposed to gender woo at school and I worry about the harm this could cause.

Defence spending is important to me given what is going on in the world at the moment and although the tories haven’t been great I think Labour will be even worse. They will also be worse on border security, letting in even more people who are not in genuine need of asylum and just seeking to exploit the system for financial gain. There isn’t enough housing for 700k plus newcomers to the Uk as it is.

JamSandle · 14/03/2024 13:21

Really don't want either. Wish someone would give the other parties a chance. We just swing back and forth all the time.

LyndaLaHughes · 14/03/2024 13:22

It's very simple- a vote for anyone other than Labour is a vote to keep the Conservatives in power. It comes down to what is most important. More of the current horrendous administration who have spent 14 years utterly destroying the country whilst lining their own pockets and those of their mates at the expense of ordinary people. More of the lies, the corruption and the decimation of our economy. If you are happy with that, then please don't vote for Labour but that is for me what it comes down to. Nothing could be worse than what we have now and I remember what the country was like domestically under the last Labour government where our public services had been invested in and food banks didn't exist. Every party has its problems but the current state of affairs is untenable. The levels of poverty I am seeing in my job are utterly unacceptable yet we have treble the number of billionaires we had in 2010 and the wealth of the richest has grown exponentially while nurses are using food banks and people are on their knees. Are people really happy for more of that? I despair.

alfagirl73 · 14/03/2024 13:22

I've always been sure about what way I'm going to vote at any election, but right now, I have no idea. The entire thing is a shit show and not one party is enticing me in the slightest.

IAmThe1AndOnly · 14/03/2024 13:22

There isn’t a leader among them. “They’re not the tories” isn’t a good enough reason to vote labour.

and labour need to do something to bring in voters. Because if the tories do win then it will be because labour aren’t considered voteworthy enough.
