What party can I vote for that may have a chance? I do not want to waste a vote but may have to. As a young(ish) Black woman, none of the above present me. I was born here as were my parents. Originally from East Africa. Spent a lot of holidays there as a child but not so much as an adult, otherwise I would seriously think of going back to live there.

I have always voted Labour but they are disappointing. For the first time, I am thinking of not voting but it does not sit right within me.

I might try the Green Party I guess.

OK - just waste your vote then - never mind that people fought and died for you to have that vote.

Unless one is totally mindless, there never will be a party whose every policy you agree with - it is always a compromise. Vote for the one who has the most policies you agree with. Get their manifestos and do some ticking - make a list.

Of course there will be no party you agree wholeheartedly with - that is not possible - that is not a reason to waste your voting right.

Or if there is a party you definitely do not want to see in government, then research the voting at the last GE in your area and vote for the person most likely to oust them.

Do not waste your vote!!

We have the right to vote but also the right to abstain. They died for our right to exercise our democratic rights and part of that is not voting if we choose not to.

Use your vote tactically. What's your constituency like and who are your local candidates?

In a marginal constituency between the Tories and another party, I would vote for whoever the other party was. Even the Lib Dems. Getting the Tories out is imperative.

If the Labour candidate was someone I feel represented me, I'd vote for them regardless of my feelings about Starmer. If I lived in Brent I wouldn't hesitate to vote for Dawn Butler.

On the other hand if I lived in Leicester I genuinely don't think I could bring myself to put a tick next to Liz Kendall's name. She's in a safe seat so I would absolutely be giving my vote to the Green party there, if they're standing.

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/03/2024 08:52

The greens would refer to you as a non-man, their respect for science is limited. I’d check their policies before going there.

hosethepatio · 14/03/2024 09:00

I won't be voting for who I think will be best for me as an older white woman, I'll be voting for who I think might get the country back on its feet.

Sadly I can't work out who that is

snowdrop27 · 14/03/2024 09:01

Completely depends where you live - which two parties is it between in your constituency?

dontcryformeargentina · 14/03/2024 09:06

I'm a woman of colour- will be voting Reform. Hate Tories ( used to vote for them in the past) and Labour doesn't represent my interests at all. It will be Reform for me

Bluevelvetsofa · 14/03/2024 09:09

Yes, people fought and died so we could have the vote and of course we should use it, but it’s very difficult when we are, effectively, disenfranchised, because the major parties have nothing to offer except more of the same car crash and independents are a voice in the wilderness.

Vote for the party that is most likely to get the Conservatives out of your constituency. That will most likely be Labour or possibly Lib Dem in the south and south west. Thanks to our stupid first-past-the-post voting system that’s the only way your vote counts.

This.

There’s a website called Stop The Tories that tells you who to vote for based on your postcode.

Giovannimilanese · 14/03/2024 09:12

I’m voting Green

Meadowfinch · 14/03/2024 09:14

'Labour are just currently playing the game to win - once they get in, they will be able to be more 'Labour'

...which sums up perfectly why I could never vote for Labour either. Not to be trusted !

Useful tool to see who has a chance in your constituency, especially if you want to vote to GTTO

You must be crazy. Vile, nasty, racist, rabidly right wing, and full of rich men pretending to be working class. Ugh!

Runningwildish · 14/03/2024 09:20

The Greens are about to self combust. They have a lot of lawsuits to deal with because they have silenced gender critical members and groups. They don't seem to be focusing on the environment anymore.

Meadowfinch · 14/03/2024 09:25

It's a real shit show, isn't it.

Not one party that puts up even a reasonable pretence of putting normal, hard working, doing their best with CoL, people first 🙁

But if they were more upfront about their policies and then lost the election when they are effectively looking at an open goal, they would get slated for that too. Accused of cowardice. Labour can do nothing right in the eyes of our dreadful right wing press.

MCOut · 14/03/2024 09:30

I understand how you feel OP. I’m still voting Labour because I don’t want to waste my vote and they are the only option but I’m under no illusions they are a party friendly to black people either.

It is very clear that Starmer is not concerned about the racism in his party or the views of BAME voters. Labour’s treatment of Diane Abbott has been eye-opening especially when you consider the Andy McDonald decision.

Tooomanynames · 14/03/2024 09:38

I’ll be voting Reform. They are the only party who have come up with some actual ideas of how they would approach getting the NHS waiting lists down & simultaneously improve pay for staff. They also appear to have the countries best interests at heart rather than just mudslinging other parties 🤷‍♀️

DrCoconut · 14/03/2024 09:42

I'm from a mixed heritage family and it will be a cold day in hell before I vote for Nigel Farage the reform party. Labour is the only realistic option in most areas to get the tories out and that takes priority for me.

MojoMoon · 14/03/2024 09:45

Reform clearly spending all of Paul Marshall's money on social media astroturfing.

(Bring on the "how dare you say that, blah blah, elites, representing the true British people, all totally genuine, what do you mean racist billionaires party" comments)

Daisybuttercup12345 · 14/03/2024 09:46

I don't like or trust either main party and don't have a clue which one I will vote for as they are as bad as each other. But one of them will get in since other parties don't stand a chance against them really.

IvorTheEngineDriver · 14/03/2024 09:46

Spoiling your vote is not throwing your vote away.

If you believe that you will believe anything. See who came second in your constituency OP and vote for them.

I am a migrant. I'll be voting Reform.

hairbearbunches · 14/03/2024 09:48

If there is a strong Independent in your constituency, consider voting for them. Labour are only going to manage to decline a bit better, they have no ideas to get this country back to where it needs to be. They're centre right, just like Blair and his cronies were. Reeves banging on about fiscal discipline is breath taking when people can see with their own eyes that the country is literally falling apart at the seams. Fuck kow-towing to the right wing media barons. Set out a vision and begin the process of bringing people with you. Show them how you're going to make the country better, so that when they do vote, it will be a vote that endorses you, not a vote against the other lot.

A handful of strong independents will send a very clear message that this country wants neither of the two big beasts anymore. Labour are supposed to represent the workers, not be a place holder for the party of the privileged until they get their arses back in gear and reinvent themselves enough to take the reins again. Stuff them, they've both had a hand in selling us out, selling us short, and selling us off.

Yearendjoy · 14/03/2024 09:54

I think I'm going Reform too.

Lifesd · 14/03/2024 09:57

If I was still in the UK I would be spoiling my ballot. That is what ive done the past few elections - can’t bear to vote for either of the main parties who (and can’t remember who to attribute this too) are cheeks of the same arse. TBF the political situation and the apathy I feel towards it was a major decision as to why we left.
