I am not voting for Labour or Con…

What party can I vote for that may have a chance? I do not want to waste a vote but may have to. As a young(ish) Black woman, none of the above present me. I was born here as were my parents. Originally from East Africa. Spent a lot of holidays there as a child but not so much as an adult, otherwise I would seriously think of going back to live there.

I have always voted Labour but they are disappointing. For the first time, I am thinking of not voting but it does not sit right within me.

I might try the Green Party I guess.

@ilovesooty It is peculiar that you think women’s sex based rights are a single issue. Women’s rights are a foundation for all females in this country. It is an issue that affects many other things. The fact that you and others are blind to that, says a lot.

You do not want to read or accept information that might challenge your views, that’s ok, cognitive dissonance is common in politics.

Of course it’s a single issue. We’ve had this rammed down our throats as nauseum by half a dozen posters for months and most of us can see the bigger picture. I’ve read all the propaganda information and I’m not convinced. I never will be.

Couldn't agree more.

It’s strange when people get upset that they have to read about this stuff yet you find them posting a lot on threads on the topic..

Usually to tell us ad infinitum how uninterested they are

Redrosetat · 22/03/2024 14:06

Interesting stuff here regarding Labour politicians and donors. It is about the one issue that doesn’t just affect ‘me’ (🙄), rather the approx 33 MILLION FEMALES in this country.

To suggest that this issue is not significant as ‘it is just one issue’, is disingenuous to say the least, and short -sighted at best.

@Redrosetat don’t worry about all the insults or whatever

They can handle different views

Keir will never ever get my vote. Tory it is. I think most women know why that is.

What a load of utter drivel.

It is. Total drivel. I’m 59 so if I’m a younger MNer…My memories of what Labour did are pretty good, to be honest.

Which women? The woman who has to wait up to 8 years before her rape case goes to court, the woman who skips meals so that she can feed her daughter, the woman with a tooth abces who can't find a NHS dentist, the woman fleeing abuse who can't get into a refugee because they have been closed down due to lack of funding, the woman who has to give up work to look after her daughter as there is no suitable SEN education available?

I think most women will think you are deluded. Tory? After the last 14 years? And given that both parties seem to have pretty much the same practical approach to the issue you mean.

ArthurTheBadger · 22/03/2024 17:19

The government is abysmal. We can see that. They will try to convince you that the alternative (Labour in our system) is as bad. But you don't know that. What you do know is that we can't carry on with our current government, so vote Labour to get a change. I'm not enamoured of the Labour Party, but it really isn't about me. Vote for who will be best for society, not just for yourself. I'd be about as well off financially under either party, but I want proper investment in the public sector, and less of giving contracts to wealthy friends. I want fewer people to have to use the food bank I help with. So vote to get the best government you can, for the most people.

Only the ones who don’t care about a million children living in destitution, rape effectively being decriminalised and the NHS being starved out of existence. Frankly the Tories are welcome to their votes. I’d rather not be a woman than subscribe to that.

I agree with all of that. However, a Labour government led by Starmer won't address those issues by following the same failed economic orthodoxy.

So they're not getting my vote. The best I can hope for is they scrape through with a small enough majority that shows they need votes from the left to remain in power and shift their politics accordingly. So not much hope at all.

cardibach · 22/03/2024 18:40

@Sillypede maybe wait for the manifesto before declaring what they’ll do.

Papyrophile · 22/03/2024 20:32

As I said earlier, I'm a floating voter and fairly middle centre. In the next GE, I am mostly likely to vote Labour (or Lib Dem, given my constituency's leanings) to give the Tories time to consider the error of their administration.

However, my vote is only lent, and opportunistic; political parties are friends for a season. I have no ideological loyalty. It's always and only the economy -- to borrow from Bill Clinton.

All he’s saying is he isn’t saying ‘vote Labour’ just ‘vote whoever can defeat the Tories’. So absolutely not telling people not to vote Labour.

He is in Ilford North - that's Wes Streeting's seat - he wants people to vote for the Independent candidate.

Wes is an excellent local MP who does actually do stuff for the local area.

Papyrophile · 22/03/2024 20:36

Wes Streeting is a big tick for me. He's saying things that needs saying about NHS reform and improved work methods.

And he's been treated for cancer in an NHS hospital since the last election, so it's an area he has a strong interest in now

Nope, he went to court for it. He is litigious though. When he shouted in Diane Abbott's face in Westminster and was so aggressive he had to be led away, he threatened to sue publications that ran the story. He backed off though when they ignored him.

MississippiAF · 22/03/2024 21:04

He’s also been in trouble for tweeting that he would have kicked a dog in the face, but then he also says he was smacked as a child and it ‘didn’t do him any harm’ so he thought banning smacking children needed careful consideration

Odious man.
