Been seeing someone for a few weeks, we went to cinema at weekend and at the end of the film he stood up and clapped. A few people were staring at him and laughing - I was mortified and I know it’s a stupid reason but it’s really given me the “ick”. I don’t know why it’s got to me so much. I guess I’m being unreasonable? In hindsight there have been other examples of him drawing attention to himself and I just find it really embarrassing and it makes me uncomfortable. I’m extremely introverted which obviously doesn’t help!

Reminds me of when I went on a couple of dates with a guy many years ago - thought he might be a catch as he was a solicitor.

One of them was to the cinema to see A Fish called Wanda - it was a funny film, but he spent the whole film clapping and guffawing loudly, which I found even stranger as he was fairly quiet and didn't have much personality.

I knew from then on the relationship was doomed.

My cohort at university (law) clapped at the end of most lectures.

Then we went into lockdown and online so it stopped.

Was funny, appears it's just a group thing -we did it once so all carried on forever more!

If he's not for you, he's not for you.

Just say you're incompatible and leave. Plenty of fish.

Is he related to MN poster who screamed in the Sistine Chapel?🤣

So so pleased to be reminded of this - thank you!

Well that's Irish guys written off 😂.

People here thank bus drivers too. Well , in rural parts at least.

I live up north and it would be considered the height of rudeness to not thank the bus driver.

I remember once in the 80’s (good films back then!) I went to see Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in Brighton. The cinema was full of foreign students, I have never been to a film showing with so much audience participation. They were all whooping, cheering, whistling and stamping feet everytime Harrison Ford did any remotely heroic stunt and full on standing ovation at the end Grin It was bloody brilliant, never been to anything like it since.

A one man standing ovation, no. Get rid.

I saw The Dark Knight when it came out in Leicester Square in 2008. The whole audience were mainly young people and teenagers and everyone was clapping and cheering etc. When the whole audience does it it's absolutely fine but for just one person to start clapping at the end of a film is a big no and if I was on a date with a guy who did that I'd get the ick too.

Mixed on this. Is he just enthusiastic and doesn't give a monkey's what other people think? In which case, hat's off to him.
Or is he an attention seeker? Then fuck him.
