To be put off bloke for silly reason?

Been seeing someone for a few weeks, we went to cinema at weekend and at the end of the film he stood up and clapped. A few people were staring at him and laughing - I was mortified and I know it’s a stupid reason but it’s really given me the “ick”. I don’t know why it’s got to me so much. I guess I’m being unreasonable? In hindsight there have been other examples of him drawing attention to himself and I just find it really embarrassing and it makes me uncomfortable. I’m extremely introverted which obviously doesn’t help!

OP posts:
Newgolddream70 · 04/03/2024 13:43

I remember everyone standing up and clapping in the cinema at the end of Rocky IV 😂 a good few years ago!

But yes, OP. That would give me the ick.

BobbyBiscuits · 04/03/2024 14:06

Haha, I've never seen anyone doing this before! Just imagine what he's doing in a theatre performance, or a gig?
I guess maybe he's trying to be funny? Did he sincerely adore the film, or was it almost like a mock gesture? Either way, yeah. Major ick.

Same in the regional city suburbs where I live. And I clap only on chartered flights not regular ones. Perfectly normal behaviour 😀

Thanks for that!

@DanceToThisBeatForevermore Edinburgh folk are known for politeness.

@willWillSmithsmith With ryanair you burst into applause if you make it onto the bloody plane 😂

MiniPumpkin · 04/03/2024 14:27

Dear god, how embarrassing. What’s he clapping for ? What’s the film?

DuckyLuck · 04/03/2024 14:52

Abhannmor · 04/03/2024 12:31

Well that's Irish guys written off 😂.

People here thank bus drivers too. Well , in rural parts at least.

I thought everyone everywhere thanks bus drivers?

beanii · 04/03/2024 15:06

You are NOT being unreasonable - does he stand up after watching a film at home too?

I'm guessing he claps when the plane lands too 🤣

Avoid OP.

Nicole1111 · 04/03/2024 15:10

Just wait until you get him on a plane ….

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 04/03/2024 15:11

Maybe he does a slow sarcastic clap if he doesn't like it...

Vonesk · 04/03/2024 15:16

Sounds like hes on some kind of substance.

Bringbackspring · 04/03/2024 15:19

Big ick... huge!!!

Tengreenbottles2 · 04/03/2024 15:40

You don't need to justify not fancying someone.

No one is entitled to your time, your romantic energy or your knickers.

You don't have to justify yourself for not fancying someone.

You don't fancy him anymore, that's that. Too bad for him.

phoenixrosehere · 04/03/2024 15:51

Starspangledrodeopony · 04/03/2024 13:28

I’d always thank a bus driver. I’d get the ick if a man didn’t and I’d think him a rude, superior twat.

Same.

I also get the ick when people tell you to thank them when they haven’t given the chance for it to be said or done anything yet to be thanked.

mynewusername2023 · 04/03/2024 15:59

What was the film?

Myself and 3 other ladies clapped at the end of The Color Purple recently. We were the only ones in the screen and I was alone.

p1ppyL0ngstocking · 04/03/2024 16:02

Dune?? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

FictionalCharacter · 04/03/2024 16:04

Abhannmor · 04/03/2024 12:31

Well that's Irish guys written off 😂.

Some people still thank bus drivers even in - gasp - London!

However, thanking the bus driver is not drawing attention to oneself, which the OP says he’s done a few times before.

Terfarina · 04/03/2024 16:33

this is entirely reasonable, what a knob!

though I have twice dumped men for taking me to see a shit film of their choice

Bloppo · 04/03/2024 16:34

Clangered · 04/03/2024 07:59

He’ll clap at the end of a flight too. Definitely not unreasonable.

Hey I find that offensive! I'm always ready to clap when an aeroplane lands to celebrate not dying. To be honest I think we need more info on this guy to make a true evaluation of how icky he is. This is a new relationship he might be on a high.Dont worry I'd say he'll come crashing down at some point 😆 and not so prone to enthusiastic outbursts.

RosieTheChi · 04/03/2024 16:35

@Bloppo 😂😂 that's so like me when a plane lands. I'm just thankful wheels are firmly on the ground!

PeloMom · 04/03/2024 16:38

Dump him. Trust your gut.

ILoveMyCaravan · 04/03/2024 16:38

Do not get on a plane with him! Blush

ChocolateCinderToffee · 04/03/2024 16:52

I used to have a housemate who insisted on cheering loudly at the end of classical music performances. She was a fucking embarrassment and obviously doing it to get attention.

YA DEFINITELY NBU

SnappyFarter1987 · 04/03/2024 16:57

OP, unless this is a massive coincidence, I was there. Saturday night? Won't ask about the venue cos it's outing. I got second hand cringe....get rid

Gettingbysomehow · 04/03/2024 16:58

I couldn't stick that. My ex had a weird high pitched laugh like a hyena and that put me right off him.

AInightingale · 04/03/2024 16:59

Just sounds a twat. I once went out with a man and we were in a pub with a quiz going on, and he started shouting out silly answers, like 'what was Louis XIV popularly known as?'-'Big Dick', stuff like that. He wasn't even drinking that much, so just imagine what this tool would be like when drunk and sentimental.

FamBae · 04/03/2024 17:06

I was at the cinema many years ago when the whole audience burst into spontaneous applause, it was during Independence Day when Will Smith punched the alien and says "welcome to earth" 😂
