to think my dentist should not have f*****d up my first botox?

I had my first botox a few weeks ago, I asked for a subtle eye brow lift and came away with a completely immobile and bruised left side of my forehead. I can't raise my left eyebrow at all, it's actually lower than it was in the first place. The right side has only a tiny movement, but at least it doesn't feel heavy.

In the two week review his reponse to this was to say he'd 'make a note'. Apparently this was so that next time he'd do better. I honestly have no intention of going back. I've lost trust completely.

Is this normal? I signed all sorts of forms before the treatment, but assumed he'd do a good job. He's known me for years. In retrospect he was just looking to sell me as much as possible.

Do I just have to suck it up and wait for the botox to wear off? I mean i know i just have to wait for the botox to wear off, but shouldn't he be offering me a refund or something?

Sorry you went to a dentist for botox?! As in 'I don't want wrinkles and want a frozen face' botox? A dentist?

MaloneMeadow · 03/03/2024 20:52

Your first and biggest mistake was going to a dentist for Botox… It’s a doctor who specialises in medical aesthetics for me or nothing. No nurses/dentists doing a day’s course in Botox would ever be allowed near my face

FOJN · 03/03/2024 20:52

I imagine all those forms you signed included warnings about the potential downsides of treatment so I doubt you can make any claim against him and any offer of a refund would be at his discretion.

It's rubbish but I doubt there is anything you can do.

Phillippeflop · 03/03/2024 20:53

A dentist for Botox in your forehead?

Pheeeeebs · 03/03/2024 20:53

I noticed my dentist does Botox too

Caterina99 · 03/03/2024 20:53

I honestly had no idea dentists did Botox!

Lammveg · 03/03/2024 20:54

Side effects can happen and I imagine that was written somewhere in all of the things you signed. Its rubbish that its happened but unfortunately it's one of those things and you're unlikely to get a refund.

Edit to add: dentists are probably one of the best people to go to for botox - they have in depth knowledge of the facial structures.

Terfosaurus · 03/03/2024 20:54

Dentists do botox?
I'm sure he didn't fuck it up on purpose.

PawsisShady · 03/03/2024 20:54

Dentists do and some are brilliant - they know about facial nerves and anatomy!

innerdesign · 03/03/2024 20:54

@MyGooseisTotallyLoose @MaloneMeadow dentists spend 5+ years studying the anatomy of the head and neck and learning how to inject. They should be the best people to get Botox from

ToasterChic · 03/03/2024 20:54

Loads of dentists do Botox. I assumed it was because lots do the CPD for Botox for bruxism and therefore have the clinical skills, and then of course lots offer cosmetic dentistry so have the market for clients in that way.

(sorry OP no advice though!)

Bluevelvetsofa · 03/03/2024 20:54

Which is why you should only trust your face to a fully qualified aesthetic doctor, after doing extensive research and reviews and consultations.

Tempnamechng · 03/03/2024 20:55

Our dentist does botox too, which i always found odd. I suppose at least they are a medical professional, unlike a beautician.
You should be asking how he can fix it.

HipHipWhoRay · 03/03/2024 20:55

Dentists are really expert in facial nerves, so I don’t think it’s nuts in going to them. Just this one, it sounds like. Sorry but not sure you can get anything done about it, but I’d be annoyed too, and probably move dentists as well.

thefallen · 03/03/2024 20:55

Well, injecting a poison into your face does pose risks. Your dentist(!) probably didn't botch it on purpose but there are always hazards involved when you mess around with nerve toxins.

Answersunknown · 03/03/2024 20:56

tbh I’d only trust a dentist or a plastic surgeon.
they spend their lives putting needles in delicate spaces.

no way I’d trust someone on a 2 day course who doesn’t inject for a living!!

especially not after seeing the side effects of infected botox who asked for fukafucillin on a handwritten note -from her ‘botox practitioner’ slash hairdressser!!!!!

GrazingSheep · 03/03/2024 20:56

I signed all sorts of forms before the treatment,

What did the forms say?

PrincessHoneysuckle · 03/03/2024 20:56

A dentist?! I've always gone to a aesthetic clinic and always loved the results.Rookie error.

dentists are actually one of the best in the medical field to become practising aestheticians because of the in-depth knowledge they have to have about the facial structure

OP- had you done any research on this person before you went to see them and seen any reviews from friends or family? You should generally get a two week checkup, and they should normally fix issues like a like your brows (obviously not the bruising) I know bruising can be natural so it could just be your skin being sensitive. My cousin always get bruising, no matter who she has gone to. Have you had botox before?

When you say it like that I get it, but I'd never think crow's feet/frown line=dentist!

I would much rather have a proper medical aesthetics doctor doing my Botox, they do it day in day out, unlike a dentist who just does it as a sideline

Covetthee · 03/03/2024 21:00

Sorry OP just realised you said first Botox so ignore the last part of my previous post. Definitely follow up with your second visit which you should definitely be offered.

SquigglyOne · 03/03/2024 21:20

Dental nurse here!
Dentists are the best professionals you can go to for Botox! They have had extensive training on facial structures and muscles etc.

Mementomorissons · 03/03/2024 22:11

YANBU OP. my dentist does Botox too, fully trained in it as much as the standard Botox clinics. They've messed it up I think, maybe you could be more pushy and say you want an extra treatment?

regretbot · 03/03/2024 22:20

Perhaps i should have said this is a dentist whose primary focus is skin aesthetics. I've had other treatments there before. I'm quite surprised the consensus seems to be that I deserve what i get for using a dentist though. What even is a skin aesthetician?

It seems crazy to me that you can ask someone for one thing, and they give you another and even F**k that up, and we just shrug and say accidents can happen. It's not like it's cheap.

I did go for my two week appointment and that's when he offered, as a concession, to make a note to do it better 'next time'. The only way he could have fixed the asymetry would have been to remove all expression from my other eye. He suggested that it was my fault for being extra sensitive to it and said I could try hot compress to try to break the botox down quickly.

If hairdressers can do 24 hour skin tests for hair dye you'd think, if sensitivity levels are so variable, a responsible botoxer would test customer's reaction before injecting it everywhere?

Would I be crazy to leave a public review saying this guy doesn't really listen, just tries to squeeze as cash much out of his clients as possible and that he's also clumsy and doesn't give a shit?
