to think my dentist should not have f*****d up my first botox?

regretbot · 03/03/2024 20:49

I had my first botox a few weeks ago, I asked for a subtle eye brow lift and came away with a completely immobile and bruised left side of my forehead. I can't raise my left eyebrow at all, it's actually lower than it was in the first place. The right side has only a tiny movement, but at least it doesn't feel heavy.

In the two week review his reponse to this was to say he'd 'make a note'. Apparently this was so that next time he'd do better. I honestly have no intention of going back. I've lost trust completely.

Is this normal? I signed all sorts of forms before the treatment, but assumed he'd do a good job. He's known me for years. In retrospect he was just looking to sell me as much as possible.

Do I just have to suck it up and wait for the botox to wear off? I mean i know i just have to wait for the botox to wear off, but shouldn't he be offering me a refund or something?

You chose to have it, no one forced it on you, didn’t you read the small print , cockups do happen and maybe you’ll think again next time and don’t have it

Muchtoomuchtodo · 03/03/2024 22:33

What did the forms say that you signed @regretbot ?

VeniVidiWeeWee · 03/03/2024 22:35

@regretbot r

"Would I be crazy to leave a public review saying this guy doesn't really listen, just tries to squeeze as cash much out of his clients as possible and that he's also clumsy and doesn't give a shit?"

That depends on how litigious the dentist is, whether, on the balance of probabilities you can prove that is true, and if you have enough assets to make it worthwhile suing you.

User478 · 03/03/2024 22:40

I bet your face looks lovely no matter where your eyebrows are.

Voone · 03/03/2024 22:42

I've never had botox so I don't know anything about it.

But is this actually down to him being clumsy or did you just have a bad reaction to it and it would have been likely to happen wherever you went?

mumda · 03/03/2024 22:53

So do dentists do teeth anymore?

ThisHonestQuail · 03/03/2024 22:58

Sorry but I think you were naive going into the appointment and obviously unaware of the nature of botox.

Wishitsnows · 03/03/2024 23:01

I went to a dentist for my first ever Botox thinking that was better than a beauty clinic as the had 5 years medical training specifically on facial nerves etc. terrible. Had same experience as Op. I’d find a beauty therapist next time. Was gutted as it seemed better going to a medically trained person.

innerdesign · 03/03/2024 20:54

@MyGooseisTotallyLoose @MaloneMeadow dentists spend 5+ years studying the anatomy of the head and neck and learning how to inject. They should be the best people to get Botox from

Was just coming on to say this. Definitely one of the best medical professionals to do Botox on your face. Although obviously not in OP's case :(

SweetClementines · 03/03/2024 23:03

I had no idea dentists did Botox!!

SilverTay · 03/03/2024 23:06

As a side note, my dentist went to a training session and the trainer (another dentist) said they always knew who the dentists were, as they're the only ones who hide the needle from the patient.

I thought that was amusing

SweetClementines · 03/03/2024 23:06

I mean, I totally get why they'd be great at it with all their training, but I just had no idea they offered this service

5128gap · 03/03/2024 23:06

I think you need a second opinion as what you describe may have been caused by something beyond his control such as the botox migrating away from the intended area (if you rubbed the area or lay down too soon this may occasionally happen, or sometime rarely just happen by itself) or if it occurred due to poor injecting technique or a misjudgement of the amount needed. For example, he may have put the same amount in both sides when you have naturally weaker muscles on one side. If its his fault then you may have grounds for money back. However even if it isn't, its pretty bad form to not at least consider options to address it, even if the conclusion was there are none! You can speed the wearing off up a little by exercising your facial muscles a lot, but ultimately its a waiting game.

SweetClementines · 03/03/2024 23:09

How much is Botox at a dentists by the way? I'm quite keen to have it done myself

fuckityfuckityfuckfuck · 03/03/2024 23:12

Is this why you can never get a dentist appointment anymore?

Rosestulips · 03/03/2024 23:12

You could complain as you’re not happy with it. I’ve had Botox from a doctor and I asked him to get rid of lines in my forehead. He told me that injecting directly above eyebrows causes this sensation of heaviness that you’re experiencing and wouldn’t inject there, he actually went higher in my forehead closer to my hairline and I was pleased with result.

it will wear off, you’ll feel it improves within a couple of weeks

Notthatcatagain · 03/03/2024 23:15

I used to work in an aesthetics clinic with top notch doctors. I've had botox many times, it's fantastic for tension headaches. It's not unusual not to get the exact result that you want first time (a bit like the first time a new hairdresser cuts your hair) sometimes the second time is better. However the absolute minimum that you should expect is that both sides match, it's not rocket science to get symmetry

Kattenburg · 03/03/2024 23:18

It's just not good enough. Before you leave a (well deserved, scathing) review, maybe email him to express your disappointment with the treatment and his response to your feedback and say that considering the results you were expecting to be offered a full refund. He might offer a partial refund to try and avoid having your before and after pictures online.
In any case a discount on the next treatment is out of question, surely there won't be a next treatment with him.

MonsteraMama · 03/03/2024 23:21

That's disappointing, my dentist does Botox and fillers and he's a wizard at it. Just bad luck in this case I think.

Agree with a pp that you should try an email expressing your disappointment and requesting a refund, then leave your review based on his response to that. Asymmetry just isn't good enough even if you did have an odd reaction to the Botox.

donquixotedelamancha · 03/03/2024 23:29

You stuck a neurotoxin in your face. Surely you know that the results are not always predictable?

The forms you signed (and hopefully read) will certainly warn of side effects.

Would I be crazy to leave a public review saying this guy doesn't really listen, just tries to squeeze as cash much out of his clients as possible and that he's also clumsy and doesn't give a shit?

If you are going to leave a review stick to facts. You felt he didn't listen to you. You didn't get the results you wanted. Don't libel him with stuff you can't back up- that could be expensive.

Go to a doctor with a proper practice specialising in medical aesthetics, definitely not a beauty therapist/nurse aesthetician!

Goodness, I hadn’t read that part of OP’s post. Awful how keen some people are to screw over someone’s career these days!!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/03/2024 23:34

Lammveg · 03/03/2024 20:54

Side effects can happen and I imagine that was written somewhere in all of the things you signed. Its rubbish that its happened but unfortunately it's one of those things and you're unlikely to get a refund.

Edit to add: dentists are probably one of the best people to go to for botox - they have in depth knowledge of the facial structures.

Edited

I agree, if I was going to have it I'd go to a dentist over anyone else. Mine has been doing it for years. Botox can have all sorts of side effects and pretty sure no one can guarantee a good result.

regretbot · 03/03/2024 22:20

Perhaps i should have said this is a dentist whose primary focus is skin aesthetics. I've had other treatments there before. I'm quite surprised the consensus seems to be that I deserve what i get for using a dentist though. What even is a skin aesthetician?

It seems crazy to me that you can ask someone for one thing, and they give you another and even F**k that up, and we just shrug and say accidents can happen. It's not like it's cheap.

I did go for my two week appointment and that's when he offered, as a concession, to make a note to do it better 'next time'. The only way he could have fixed the asymetry would have been to remove all expression from my other eye. He suggested that it was my fault for being extra sensitive to it and said I could try hot compress to try to break the botox down quickly.

If hairdressers can do 24 hour skin tests for hair dye you'd think, if sensitivity levels are so variable, a responsible botoxer would test customer's reaction before injecting it everywhere?

Would I be crazy to leave a public review saying this guy doesn't really listen, just tries to squeeze as cash much out of his clients as possible and that he's also clumsy and doesn't give a shit?

Dentists are not medically trained. Don’t go to them for botox. It’s not just knowing the facial anatomy. There is a lot more to it. I’m saying that as a qualified aesthetics nurse. You have to be a nurse or higher to be considered medically trained in aesthetics. Wait for it to wear off and go to someone else

Grendell · 03/03/2024 23:42

Do not voluntarily get a poisonous neurotoxin injected into your body.

Please.
