to think my dentist should not have f*****d up my first botox?

I had my first botox a few weeks ago, I asked for a subtle eye brow lift and came away with a completely immobile and bruised left side of my forehead. I can't raise my left eyebrow at all, it's actually lower than it was in the first place. The right side has only a tiny movement, but at least it doesn't feel heavy.

In the two week review his reponse to this was to say he'd 'make a note'. Apparently this was so that next time he'd do better. I honestly have no intention of going back. I've lost trust completely.

Is this normal? I signed all sorts of forms before the treatment, but assumed he'd do a good job. He's known me for years. In retrospect he was just looking to sell me as much as possible.

Do I just have to suck it up and wait for the botox to wear off? I mean i know i just have to wait for the botox to wear off, but shouldn't he be offering me a refund or something?

I think Botox is an art AND a science - dentists are highly qualified but I’d still rather see a doctor who specialises in aesthetics. My dr is extremely careful to not overdo it and would rather I come back for free ‘top ups’ if I think I need more, rather than put in too much and risk a droopy brow

This exactly! There is an art to it, too. I want someone medically qualified but also skilled in the aesthetics.

A dentist studies the facial nerves and muscles for their entire 5 year degree, not a one day course. They have a far more in-depth bank of knowledge than any nurse doing a few days on an aesthetics course will. You obviously don’t know the facts so stop trying to pretend that you do

Stop being weird @MaloneMeadow I don't know you.

You do not understand: 'one day training' is the botox injection training you silly dumdum! That's the extend of the cosmetic training for a dentist.
A cosmetic nurse working for a plastic surgeon will have better training and more experience with botox than your dentist. I'll still go with the plastic surgeon though.
Dentists are only doing botox because it's a nice little earner, not because they have any interest in - or talent for - aesthetics, otherwise they would have spent these 5 years studying cosmetic surgery, duh.

Excuse me? Am I talking to an adult or an uneducated 5 year old throwing ridiculous insults around? Get a grip.

A dentist studied dentistry which is nothing to do with aesthetics of the face.
You would ideally want a doctor or nurse with years of experience. Look at Save Face website, they can show you how to find legit practitioners.
I would not go back there, they clearly administered too much/ in wrong place. It will go down, so don't worry too much.
Dentists are for teeth only.

The dentist I work with does Botox and fillers and has done for years. He’s great at both

I’m afraid the only person being weird and a bit of a ‘dumdum’ is you @Kattenburg . If you can’t act and speak like an adult then you shouldn’t be on MN, you’re embarrassing yourself

BobbyBiscuits · 05/03/2024 22:20

@Mumof2NDers I don't doubt it, but it's not their speciality. As a general rule I'd want to use a cosmetic doctor or nurse. If you are thinking about teeth at least 50% of your time you are not going to be as good as someone primarily focussed on botox/ fillers/ facial stuff.

I agree.

At this point I can’t even tell if this is satire or not. No, personally I wouldn’t be going to a dentist for my Botox but you are absolutely delusional to suggest that they are not qualified to do it and are using expired, fake products - even more so to suggest that a random nurse would be the better choice. There is one only Botox factory in the world and it is in Ireland, not China or anywhere else.

There isn't only 1 botox factory in the world, there are at least 3, as there are 3 pharmaceutical companies who make it with slight variations.

regretbot · 06/03/2024 21:22

Ok, thanks this has been useful. I will not be going back to that dentist for botox, or anything else most likely.
I am not sure I've got the time to find new botox specialists just to critique what's been done but I guess I should. I'm in London so there's too much choice.
