to think my dentist should not have f*****d up my first botox?

I had my first botox a few weeks ago, I asked for a subtle eye brow lift and came away with a completely immobile and bruised left side of my forehead. I can't raise my left eyebrow at all, it's actually lower than it was in the first place. The right side has only a tiny movement, but at least it doesn't feel heavy.

In the two week review his reponse to this was to say he'd 'make a note'. Apparently this was so that next time he'd do better. I honestly have no intention of going back. I've lost trust completely.

Is this normal? I signed all sorts of forms before the treatment, but assumed he'd do a good job. He's known me for years. In retrospect he was just looking to sell me as much as possible.

Do I just have to suck it up and wait for the botox to wear off? I mean i know i just have to wait for the botox to wear off, but shouldn't he be offering me a refund or something?

I think Botox is an art AND a science - dentists are highly qualified but I’d still rather see a doctor who specialises in aesthetics. My dr is extremely careful to not overdo it and would rather I come back for free ‘top ups’ if I think I need more, rather than put in too much and risk a droopy brow

I can’t believe my Botox doctor screwed up my root canal. Then my dustman made me a rubbish pizza and my chef wouldn’t empty my bins.
It’s been a day!!

Lol.

I honestly had no idea dentists did Botox!

Lots of dentists do - they know a lot about facial musculature so somehow seem to be qualified. I think they have been using it for TMJ in the past?

Kattenburg · 05/03/2024 00:32

Botox from a dentist, or an aesthetician, I find terrifying. I question their knowledge and technique and what is their sense of aesthetics? There's also the small detail of the actual product, how it's kept, how old it is. Chinese botox anyone? A reputable plastic surgeon is expensive but worth every penny, if botox is what you want. Maybe a nurse.
Everyone else is a chancer and on the bandwagon of easy money, at women's expense.

At this point I can’t even tell if this is satire or not. No, personally I wouldn’t be going to a dentist for my Botox but you are absolutely delusional to suggest that they are not qualified to do it and are using expired, fake products - even more so to suggest that a random nurse would be the better choice. There is one only Botox factory in the world and it is in Ireland, not China or anywhere else.

Oh yes they are 'qualified' a one day course no less. A bit delulu if you are not aware that a counterfeit market exists. Didn't say random nurse.

A dentist studies the facial nerves and muscles for their entire 5 year degree, not a one day course. They have a far more in-depth bank of knowledge than any nurse doing a few days on an aesthetics course will. You obviously don’t know the facts so stop trying to pretend that you do

ILoveMyCatButHesAPervert · 05/03/2024 01:28

Surely you'd at least explain your disappointment and concerns in a letter to him? Then it's in his hands to respond. He's very unlikely to refund if you don't complain fully.

TheTimeIsNowMaybeNow · 05/03/2024 01:39

I can't get my head around the idea that some people would rather go to a nurse than a dentist!

Meangirl6 · 05/03/2024 04:05

Hi OP,

I hope you get to see this message. Ignore all the messages querying about why you chose a dentist.

Normal aesthetics people actually need someone trained to sign off their botox I.e. Doctor, nurse, dentist. Without this the botox can't happen.

A nurse does mine. It's on prescription you see, so a normal beauty girl can't just order the botox.

Right, another practitioner won't touch you until this has worn off. Unless you know someone very personally who will do it for you.

I'm actually cornered that you said your brows lower then before you had it. Does this mean you have facial drooping? Have you got a pic?

Just so anyone can advise better so know what it looks like. Crop the rest of your face off. Can you DM me where you are, I could potentially tell you couple places that MAY help you. However, what I said earlier still stands I doubt anyone else will touch you.

Takes about 4 months to wear off.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 05/03/2024 04:18

Haven’t voted but I’d refrain from posting a negative review IF you plan to go back. Unfortunately it’s in you now and you’ll have to wait for the effects to wear off. I’d be very cautious about having it again in your shoes. Is it possible you are a bad candidate for it? Hope it wears off quickly.

I don’t know why people are shocked a dentist can do Botox, pretty much anyone can by the sounds of it!

dont be ridiculous

it’s a service.
op paid for it.
it should be up to scratch.

we all do things to improve the way we look. Don’t be so judgmental

GreyCarpet · 05/03/2024 08:02

I don't think going to a dentist sounds odd for all the reasons given.

I'm just surprised you think the length of time you've known him would have an impact on how your body reacted to the procedure or his ability to do it or whatever it was that caused the issue!

Gowlett · 05/03/2024 08:10

I know a few dentists who’ve moved into aesthetics.
He may just be gaining experience in going live with it.

midgetastic · 05/03/2024 08:13

Problem did occur with Botox
Not necessarily the fault of the doctor/ dentist , just how your body reacts and your specific anatomy

Passthegin99 · 05/03/2024 08:22

I had the same result when I tried Botox - not from a dentist...I used a specialist who a friend raved about. She didn't apologise either - just said I was extra sensitive to Botox and she'd know for next time 😂 So that was £350 down the drain and I just had to wait for it to wear off and never do it again!

Yeah. We use make up or dress nicely. Perhaps have a hair cut. Those that are sensible don't inject our face with poison so we end up looking like a Barbie doll who's been melted in a furnace. 😂

@Gillah

botox does not look like that. Well maybe in some cases it does. But most of the time it doesn’t.

I don’t know why a lot of mumsnetters are so judgy about things like Botox.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 05/03/2024 09:33

@ColleenDonaghy

I'm not sure that Botox injections is much of a way to increase skills, though.

I completely and wholeheartedly agree about funding dentistry better though, and no wonder we have a shortage and a crisis.

I wasn't talking about increasing skills, I was just talking about doing something different.

bradpittsbathwater · 05/03/2024 10:11

I suppose there's always a risk with Botox. I find it scary though, as people have ended up paralysed from it even though rare. It's poison.

DaisyDreaming · 05/03/2024 10:31

MaloneMeadow · 03/03/2024 23:46

Stop spreading false information please. The risks to Botox (done by a medical professional) are negligible. Do you really believe that they’d use it to treat muscle spasticity in children if it wasn’t safe?

I’m following someone on TikTok who has been in ICU the past 12 days due to Botox. She is now going to be tube fed long term and once out of ICU is going to have to move to a long term rehab. It’s rare but you make it sound like there’s zero risks to Botox! They give Botox to children because children NEED it and the benefits are deemed to outweigh the risks
