Maybe I'm overacting but I don't think I am. The other day I was at a cafe with my friend (31F) and I was pouting my lips when she looked at me and said 'that reminds me' and started applying chapstick. I was a bit confused by this but then I realised what she meant and I was very angry. But then yesterday we went out again and I can't remember the conversation but I stuck my teeth out in a funny way and she looked me up and down and said in a smug voice 'I need to book my dentist appointment' and she set a reminder in her calendar. Am I overreacting or is this not on? And how do I approach it without sounding paranoid?

I genuinely just have to follow this as it’s bloody hilarious! Thank you OP for making me laugh on a Sunday night - definitely taken my mind off work tomorrow.

SmileyClare · 03/03/2024 22:58

applying chapstick is obviously implying my lips are dry

I apply chapstick at work. Everyone must think I’m a right cunt.

JL690 · 03/03/2024 23:04

I wonder what saying "F* off" will remind her to do.

Everyone on here is vile, telling me I need psychotherapy and god knows what else. I told her that if she wants the glasses she can come and get them herself but not sure if the message sent. I'm not a lapdog

You sound like an agitated horse ?
If you don't have a medical condition why are you pulling faces and starting childish dramas. A right wrong'un!

fliptopbin · 03/03/2024 23:10

So, let me get this straight. You pouted your lips at a friend and instead of complimenting you on your lips filler she got out some chapstick. Then, because she didn't admire your teeth which were done in Turkey but are NOT Turkey teeth, you told her to fuck off. Then took someone elses glasses hostage because...reasons.
And you can't say fuck or lesbian.
I am glad I clarified this, as it makes TOTAL sense now.

JFDIYOLO · 03/03/2024 23:27

I think she's hinting to stop pulling faces.

VillanellesCoat · 03/03/2024 23:32

Do actual turkeys have teeth?

OP I'm with you and I'm shocked at how this thread is going.

I've been the person who has had a spot on my face that I've tried to cover and then had a 'friend' point it out or look at it and say it reminds them that they need to buy concealer.

When you say you were pouting or your teeth stuck out I can imagine it just being part of a normal facial expression.

I think people are being horrible and frankly some people are being boarderline disablist implying that you have some kind of facial tic because your face makes differnt shapes.

Has no one ever laughed and their teeth shown. Or pouted their lips for a second whilst contemplating something?

Horrible friends like this exist. You will notice that they will stare at the thing that you feel most self conscious about. I had sore skin on my hands that I was waiting to see a derm about. Once my 'friend' knew about it she wouldn't stop bringing up how hand's are the first thing they notice about a person and hands are more important than your face and saying stupid shit like that. I no longer tell her things.

So, yeah basically I see where your coming from OP. And it is from jealously and to keep you in your place.

Cuckoochanel80 · 04/03/2024 00:20

People like this get a kick out of your reaction and it makes them feel better about themselves

Babla · 04/03/2024 01:20

context she has always been somewhat jealous of me which makes it worse.

Ooooooo get you

I don't think you need that, you're funny but would do my head if you were my friend.
Sticking teeth out 😂

Yoe · 04/03/2024 02:15

So you feel that she is making fun of you? Like if you touched your face she’d tell you she’s booking a facial ? I actually see where you’re coming from it’s like she’s taking the piss and doing it where you can’t put your finger on it but it’s there . Take a breath and maybe sometime away from thr person

KomodoOhno · 04/03/2024 02:18

The text was a bit odd. Maybe you just don't gel as friends. It seems a bit toxic

This is BIZARRE
Are you the new Sharon? (if you ever read old threads) just for sheer oddness?

Maybe everyone fancies Sharon…

it’s a good job no one threw coffee at the wall in the cafe.

I’ve just had a giggle remembering that post 😂.

Therealjudgejudy · 04/03/2024 02:44

This thread is hilarious.

Totally giving me t-rexing in the supermarket vibes!

Sallyssn · 04/03/2024 04:00

Typical feminine put down.
I would say she is a bit threatened by you.
I would ajso say that most of the comments are very mean..

MississippiAF · 03/03/2024 20:17

Basically fuck off, you’re unhinged, don’t talk to me ever again, fuck off some more.

And return other mate who also hates you’s glasses pls.

This is great🤣

Fedupofcommodes · 04/03/2024 04:13

I'm not even sure what there is to get annoyed about.

Keychangeoff · 04/03/2024 04:35

You sound like a complete narcissist OP. You’re too old to think that everything people do is because of you . Toddlers are allowed to believe this but not a fully grown woman in their 30’s.

Fedupofcommodes · 04/03/2024 04:13

I'm not even sure what there is to get annoyed about.

You sound jealous to me. It's obvious you don't have the funds to invest in artificially enhanced lips (UK) and/or teeth (Turkey).

If you have neither of these artificial enhancements then there is zero reason for anyone to be jealous of/ fawn over you. The jealousy/fawning over your financial investment are mandatory in order to maintain your artificially enhanced self esteem.

Any deviation from envious comments/fawning is deserving of at least a full blown strop or the taking hostage of spectacles.

Or, in the OPs, v.v.v. special circumstances, both.

I don’t think anyone anywhere has ever been jealous of someone getting Botox or getting Turkey teeth.

Amused, maybe. But not jealous.

Sceptical123 · 04/03/2024 06:20

It’s all down to interpretation isn’t it.

Someone looking at nice lips, who are self conscious of their own or aware they are dry at the moment, would then be reminded to apply chapstick - where’s the insult? And your preferred alternative - I’d have thought them saying that they needed to get their lips done after looking at yours (which are done) would be more insulting bc you could interpret that as they think yours need to be done/done more, which is what has set them on that particular train of thought. You could interpret them either way.

Also, drawing attention to your teeth and her saying she needs to book a dental appointment - why is that insulting, as by the example you gave about your lips and your preferred comment (ie. that she wants filler bc she’s admiring yours) why haven’t you taken it that she admires your teeth so wants to get hers done too?

It seems that for whatever reason you are choosing to look for the negative connotation as the interpretations you’ve taken from both ‘insults’ haven’t been consistent.

It is possible to pick up a vibe from someone, even if you don’t know them well, but you can also be in danger of looking for a negative slant where one wasn’t intended. If other ppl are saying she’s jealous of you there may be something in it, or they may be stirring and trying to add to the drama. But why go for coffee with someone you don’t particularly like? I’m talking about her not you. It doesn’t sound like a genuine friendship so probably best a line has been drawn underneath it anyway.

almost30x · 04/03/2024 06:25

To be honest I’ve never been jealous of someone else’s looks, let alone those who have had things done. I think people can be beautiful but I don’t see someone’s lips and think I need filler. That’s a weird mindset to have.
