Maybe I'm overacting but I don't think I am. The other day I was at a cafe with my friend (31F) and I was pouting my lips when she looked at me and said 'that reminds me' and started applying chapstick. I was a bit confused by this but then I realised what she meant and I was very angry. But then yesterday we went out again and I can't remember the conversation but I stuck my teeth out in a funny way and she looked me up and down and said in a smug voice 'I need to book my dentist appointment' and she set a reminder in her calendar. Am I overreacting or is this not on? And how do I approach it without sounding paranoid?

Are you sure you are 31?

daisychain01 · 03/03/2024 14:04

This sounds like it's a reverse.

otherwise I cant think why someone would start a thread admitting to pouting and gurning at a friend who then takes the piss because they asked for it!

Tattletwat · 03/03/2024 14:06

Sits there pulling faces, and then complains when friend comments.

What a odd one you are.

zunchie · 03/03/2024 14:06

So you drew attention to your lips which made her think of her own lips.
Next you drew attention to your teeth which reminded her about her own teeth.
What next? You sitting looking at your fingernails which generates the response from her “That reminds me, I need a new nail polish.”
You sound a bit odd.

Well it could've been a positive thing like it reminded her she needs lip filler or something nice about my own lips rather than applying chapstick which is obviously implying my lips are dry. It is all negative with her.

How insulting. So because I'm in my 30s I have to be serious all the time and I can't make jokes or pull faces at all.

It’s obviously irritating her though. Take the hint and stop.

Do you also floss your teeth with your hair?

gamerchick · 03/03/2024 14:10

But why are you pulling faces though? Just stop it.

Unless you have tourettes or something and can't help it.

betterangels · 03/03/2024 14:12

I just saw that thread. Yikes.

😲 What thread is that, please?

Edit: Sorry, just found it.

Ellie1015 · 03/03/2024 14:15

Your lips reminded her of her lips which needed chapstick. Not your dry lips reminded her of her lips.

Are your lips dry? It isnt incommon or a huge insult.

Unless your teeth are visibly decaying then it was teeth that made her think of dentist.

SmileyClare · 03/03/2024 14:16

This isn’t very funny or entertaining if that’s your angle and the outrage doesn’t add anything.

Poor effort .

You can say FUCK OFF on here no need for asterisks

K0OLA1D · 03/03/2024 14:17

Are you on glue?

rumbypumby · 03/03/2024 14:18

You sound 31 going on 5. Keep your teeth in your mouth ffs. Your friend must feel like your babysitter.

Well it's not something most adults do no
Unless it's one of those daft pouty photos ....

SheepAndSword · 03/03/2024 14:18

OP you're obviously aware that you sometimes pull faces, has this been due to a medical condition? Friend never made it obvious before?

DrJoanAllenby · 03/03/2024 14:19

If you insist on gurning all the time then of course she's going to comment.

Or she's thinking oh yes nice lips I want to keep my lips in top condition I will use chap stick. Why on earth would looking at your lips remind her to get filler

True. In which case I apologise for my earlier comment and understand you cannot help pulling faces

Fannyfiggs · 03/03/2024 14:21

It could have been worse...

Your friend could have been reminded she needed a shit with your pouty lips and opened her beer bottle on your sticky out teeth.

So yeah, YABU.

Prinnny · 03/03/2024 14:22

So you sat pouting and sticking your teeth out at this woman and then became irrationally angry at her! I think she needs to ‘F** OFF’ far away from you you absolute nut job 🤣🤣

QueenBitch666 · 03/03/2024 14:22

Is gurning in fashion?!

No, I was just being funny and pulled my teeth out I don't remember why it was a joke in the moment. What a silly suggestion that I must have tourettes or be disabled in some way.

Next time you poke your teeth out, casually grab a tennis racket and start eating an apple through it.
