Maybe I'm overacting but I don't think I am. The other day I was at a cafe with my friend (31F) and I was pouting my lips when she looked at me and said 'that reminds me' and started applying chapstick. I was a bit confused by this but then I realised what she meant and I was very angry. But then yesterday we went out again and I can't remember the conversation but I stuck my teeth out in a funny way and she looked me up and down and said in a smug voice 'I need to book my dentist appointment' and she set a reminder in her calendar. Am I overreacting or is this not on? And how do I approach it without sounding paranoid?

Show her this thread. Maybe it'll remind her to get new friends

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 03/03/2024 14:36

Stop making weird faces at her? Sounds very tit for tat.

MonsteraMama · 03/03/2024 14:36

My sister has tourette's and sticking her teeth out or "gurning" is one of her physical tics, so it's not that outlandish a suggestion. And if you can't help it that'd at least explain why you're resorting to the kind of thing four year olds find funny as a "joke".

I'm sure your friend is not jealous of Gurney McPoutface at all.

Well it could've been a positive thing like it reminded her she needs lip filler or something nice about my own lips

So you pouted your pumped up lips in the middle of a conversation, are you are upset she didn’t say she needs to get her filler done?

wtf is going on.

'Pumped up lips' is everyone on here so horrid? Not that its even relevant to the thread but I have only ever had 0.5ml and that was about six months ago so it probably dissolved by now. I'm not saying she had to say she wants filler but she could've said something kind like 'oh you have nice lips' or something else just not mean.

No, I was just being funny and pulled my teeth out I don't remember why it was a joke in the moment. What a silly suggestion that I must have tourettes or be disabled in some way.

so do you have false teeth?

ThinWomansBrain · 03/03/2024 14:38

sounds bizarre in the first place, and an odd way to speak to a friend.
How would she connect the expletives a few days later?

Whattodo112222 · 03/03/2024 14:38

Oh for god sake. Grow up OP.

ichundich · 03/03/2024 14:39

You don't sound like much of a friend to her tbh.

So you pout at her and was supposed to say that you had nice lips?!!

OP you do sound very odd and full of yourself.

Do you have to be so nasty! I don't remember why I was doing it I just was. And why would she say that to my face, even if she's thinking it. Deep down I think she has some sort of superiority complex towards me.

I can see why if you're always pulling faces, it's not the norm.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/03/2024 14:42

@zunchie - maybe your friend is the sort of person who says their inner narrative out loud? I bet that everyone sometimes sees something and thinks ‘that reminds me, I must do X’ - for most of us, that is in our heads, but maybe your friend just says it out loud.

if that’s the case, she isn’t doing it to offend you, so you have to decide whether you can put up with the things she says, or whether you need to pull back from the friendship. Either is better than the nuclear option - telling her to Fuck Off.

You pulled your teeth out?

What a self-obsessed person you are. Why would she need to say something nice about your lips when your pouting reminded her hers were dry? It isn't normal to think she was passing judgment on your lips or that everything that comes out of her mouth relates back to you.

You might have tourettes how would I know?

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 03/03/2024 14:46

😂

MississippiAF · 03/03/2024 14:46

I’m just imagining being out with a friend who keeps pouting and pulling (sticking?!) their teeth out, who feels sorry for me as I’m just not as good looking as them… and then being told to fuck off for the privilege

Thanks for that. I do sometimes take the written word literally

SheepAndSword · 03/03/2024 14:48

Were you trying to snog her?

Seriously OP she just thought it was strange behaviour

betterangels · 03/03/2024 14:50

So basically you want to tell her to fuck off for not being complimentary about your looks, but you're on the Internet slagging hers off and calling her jealous?

You're either on a Sunday wind up or need to get over yourself.

So first I have tourettes and now I must be a l*sbian. Seriously does nobody here make jokes with their friends?
