Depends on the decor of the room I guess. It might fit in with someone's decorating scheme but look bizarre in someone else's.

IncognitoUsername · 28/02/2024 07:05

Well I’m a grandma and it’s too busy for me but if you like it and it fits with your decor then buy it. Apart from anyone you share a bed with, who else is going to see it?

Brefugee · 28/02/2024 07:05

why does it matter?

Changingplace · 28/02/2024 07:06

If you like it who cares.

Fannyfiggs · 28/02/2024 07:06

I'm not a grandma and I love it 🥰

If you like it, go for it.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 28/02/2024 07:14

I'm a grandma and not keen on it. You don't lose your taste as you get older, you know. It's a bit rude to denigrate older people's tastes

iwiporangi · 28/02/2024 07:15

Ageist question
And sexist

dontgetscarednow · 28/02/2024 07:15

No offence to any grandma's.. it's a turn of phrase, sorry! I just meant old fashioned

OP posts:
DurhamDurham · 28/02/2024 07:16

I'm a grandma and I think it's old fashioned and dated.

IncognitoUsername · 28/02/2024 07:19

Maybe all us non old fashioned Grandma’s on here should share pictures of our bed linen to prove we are not living in the past!

DappledThings · 28/02/2024 07:22

dontgetscarednow · 28/02/2024 07:15

But do you like it? If you do why does it matter?

iwiporangi · 28/02/2024 07:24

But your description was offensive; you can't shrug it off by saying 'no offence to grandma's", it doesn't work like this
Would you ask 'is this gay-ish/jew-ish/traveller-ish, or any other ish that will cause offence? Unlikely I suspect.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 28/02/2024 07:28

I mean theoretically you could be a grandma anywhere from about 32 to a 102
im 50ish and several of my friends are grandmas
my mother is 90 and a grandma
IS there some mystical time point where we develop this old fashioned grandma taste?
Or can I carry on liking stuff I like and not have to conform to ageist tropes for as long as I like
oh and the duvet cover is hideous
clearly I've not moved to the grandma phase yet

"No offence"....the rider added to any offensive phrase.
Yes, it's ageist, sexust and offensive.

And I personally don't like the duvet cover, but that's my taste and had no bearing on your choices.

Sparkletastic · 28/02/2024 07:32

It's very chintzy and not in a cool post-modern way

Hobnobswantshernameback · 28/02/2024 07:32

Look up Jaqueline Hooton
look her up on Instagram
She's a 61 year old personal trainer who talks a lot about ageist stereotypes and the importance of healthy ageing
Then come back and talk about grandma duvet covers
We are all getting older and we need to stop making woman into these pathetic cliches once they get to a certain age

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 28/02/2024 07:41

If you like it, you like it. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

RaininSummer · 28/02/2024 07:43

I am a grandma but it's definitely not my taste, now or ever. But if you like it then surely it's fine.

I doubt op will be back.
I am a 51 year old grandma of 6 and I am not quite ready for my zimmer frame yet.

Ikeatears · 28/02/2024 07:46

Wow! What a pile on over a duvet! We all knew what the op meant! Why the faux offence?
Grandma-ish makes me think of my own Grandma who was born in 1921 and most definitely was old fashioned.
By the way, I'm also a grandma 🤷🏼‍♀️

Pretty sure my very chintzy grandma had that pattern/v similar as upholstry on her bedroom chair.

Wouldn't say it's a "grandma" pattern per se- this thread proves that but I think it's very dated.

PremiumVersion · 28/02/2024 07:51

I prefer big florals to small florals so it’s ok but I would like the colours to be much brighter.

OP I am sure you didn’t mean any harm by saying ‘grandma’ but I guess people now try and be a bit more thoughtful about language. And of course likening something old-fashioned to be being like an older woman is offensive. Ageism slips in without us realising so it’s good to be aware! Just learn from it maybe and don’t take it personally.

Hope you find some bedding you love and you don’t have to get people’s opinions on it!

W0tnow · 28/02/2024 07:57

Very much so. But if you like it…?

I’d say it’s grandma-ish. But I’d mean my grandma. Who would be about 120 if she were still with us!

Not "faux" offence. Genuine offence at thoughtless language. We, rightly, don't accept other "isms" and should not accept ageist language and assumptions either.
