Anyone hate these posts?

  • really really really long posts
  • long posts with NO paragraphs
  • posts which start ‘ I have a friend, let’s call her Jane; her DH, let’s call him Sam… you can’t bloody well follow the post. Much easier just to say Friend and DH.
Any others? 😊

Anything that starts with 'Hey, ladies ...'

Or "So..."

Example: "So i live in on an estate and have three children my next dor neighbour never says hello to me when she sees me in the street and always tells my kids to get off her lawn when they are playin their only kids they dont their not suposed to be their an i cant always keep my eyes on them their good kids {and on an on for the next 600 words punctuation or a paragraph break}.

Posters who's reactions seem to be totally out of whack with what's being discussed. You get the feeling they're having a row with their invisible friend rather than the OP -

OP - Should l plant daffodils, or snowdrops? I can't decide ...

Furious Poster - WHATS WRONG WITH YOU!!!! HAVE YOU NO SHAME!?! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU COULD BE SO CALLOUS AS TO IGNORE THOSE OF US THAT SUFFER THE MISERIES OF HAYFEVER!!! I HOPE YOU DIE IN A DITCH!!!@!

Posters magically know better than the person on the scene! Sometimes they have perfect insight into the OP's way of life or relationships even when the OP says that it isn't the case.

TBF I know the post that @QuestionableMouse is refering to and the OP does have a few "plot holes", plus things that don't quite add up and isn't coming back to explain (probably because the thread is very much not going their way).

I think it's fine to make suggestions to fill in some blanks on threads as long as you are clear "maybe xyz this happened?" or "because OP said this, I assume xyz...", but not to completely reinvent their account and/or say you know better than they do!

Actually that's raised another couple of pet peeves - expecting constant updates, and bitching about people not returning to threads where they're just getting nasty replies!

People have busy lives and a lot of jobs mean you don't have access to your phone. The op in that post seemed pretty genuine to me and some of the comments directed at the were unpleasant to say the least 😬

TheShellBeach · 28/02/2024 17:37

Posters who start their response with:

"Nah"

are so dismissive and rude.

Or:

"OP you are so insensitive. I have been on a council waiting list for a house with a garden for 77 years and have been told that I have to wait at least another 12 before one will become eligible. How dare you flaunt your privilege in the faces of people like me? Some of us have real problems."

Mothership4two · 28/02/2024 18:46

Yes it's pointless for posters to say "where's the OP?" or "is the OP coming back?" on their thread @QuestionableMouse - they don't have to respond and it is probably just annoys them.

Oh God yes.

Every year there is usually a fight between people who enjoy winter and those who hope for a hot summer. That wishing for a particular type of weather does not influence it is not considered relevant - it is pure selfishness to hope for snow / tropical heat.

Rolls up sleeves

Winter can do one.

All the posts that insist the relationship takes priority over absolutely everything. No matter how serious or short lived.

People who seemingly have absolutely no capacity to understand how the world works and insist that a man should prioritse his girlfriend/wife/partner over absolutely everyrhing no matter how realistic, feasible, practical or whatever else.

If he loved you he would...

Absolutely ridiculous

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 28/02/2024 19:46

When someone says that husband is horrible to them but he is a good dad.

Usually said by single people who complain they can't keep one

with this it's showing how so many women will prioritise their kids though so I get it.

Mothership4two · 28/02/2024 21:10

OPs who post under another name to secretly support the point of their thread or insult posters who don't agree with them. It's happened twice this week that I know about but probably a lot more.

How do you know for certain though?

Mothership4two · 28/02/2024 22:15

@LindaHamilton

How do you know for certain though?

Because they cocked up and accidently posted under their original (OP) names.

It doesn't really drive me mad, but it is a bit baffling

Ah right, yea it could happen more as you say but it's impossible to know.

AdaStarkadder · 28/02/2024 22:22

If you name change then go back to a thread you were on before under another name the MN magic bots flip you back to your original name - l think it's to stop people doing sock-puppetry stuff and agreeing with themselves

AdaStarkadder · 28/02/2024 22:25

It totally did my head in when l noticed - it took me ages to figure out why l seemed to be three different people!

ScierraDoll · 28/02/2024 22:30

I want to call my son/daughter Trail while my DH prefers Exio
What do you think?

Posters who start their response with:

"Nah"

are so dismissive and rude.

I had someone who would respond to my posts with the word 'No'. As if her opinion was paramount. I'd respond 'Yes'

QueenMegan · 28/02/2024 23:17

People who get the hump because one hasn't RTT.
People who think they are smart by being insulting.
Any talk about class.
All the mindless shite about how a teacher said something inappropriate about their dahling

ALongHardWinter · 28/02/2024 23:33

Threads that end up being 90% posters quoting other posts and commenting on them! Gets a bit tedious after a while when you've read the same post 8 times.

ALongHardWinter · 28/02/2024 23:34

Threads where I've said much the same things as several other posters but for some reason, another poster singles me out to have a go at!

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 29/02/2024 00:27

@ImCamembertTheBigCheese the "Nah" reply always makes me think of teenagers trying to look cool.

Ilovecleaning · 29/02/2024 00:59

Thank you to everyone who posted. It has been very entertaining and I’ve loved reading your responses. So many of us feel the same way about crazy or irritating posts. 🌺
