Anyone hate these posts?

  • really really really long posts
  • long posts with NO paragraphs
  • posts which start ‘ I have a friend, let’s call her Jane; her DH, let’s call him Sam… you can’t bloody well follow the post. Much easier just to say Friend and DH.
Any others? 😊
OP posts:

I want to call my son/daughter Trail while my DH prefers Exio
What do you think?

You're not Sarah Palin, are you?!

Abitofalark · 29/02/2024 01:10

Posting a link to a newspaper report with a large photo, which is dominant, space grabbing and intrusive, a current example being the Blake murderer. It is optional, as a bin symbol enables the poster to delete the photo so that it doesn't appear.

Tatonka · 29/02/2024 01:33

The ones where a poster asks thoughts on a baby name, then people reply which alternate names that don't even closely resemble it

SoreAndTired1 · 29/02/2024 04:01

The lazy ignorant arseholes who take up a post and post one post with ( . )
Or 'placemarking'.

FFS, there is WATCH THREAD as a function for this very reason, to STOP all the 'placemarking' or posts with nothing but a full stop. Watch his thread can be found at BOTH the top AND the bottom of the thread, so no excuse not to use it!

Folk who declare they have name changed but have been here years..i want to post NO ONE CARES

You have to do that otherwise the fulltime troll-hunters on here who Advance Search every single OP will come on and say 'interesting first post....'

Myhatmycoat · 29/02/2024 05:31

The posts with 20 plus caveats in the first paragraph to try and ward off the trolls/nasty buggers from doing the usual ‘well what about’ scenarios…. Never ever works

Yep so stupid!!!!

FluffyToesMeow · 29/02/2024 05:40

Gloriousgardener11 · 25/02/2024 22:21

And the posters who want help to name their children.
FFS name your own bloody child!

Ooo I LOVE a baby name thread!

No idea how to quote part of op. It only does the whole thing.

FluffyToesMeow · 29/02/2024 05:42

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 25/02/2024 22:27

Can't say it annoys me but puzzles me...I don't see why some posters feel the need to say that they have name changed are a regular poster, then mention old threads such as "pom bears" to "prove" that.

Why not just name change and post?

It's SO cringy

Newsenmum · 29/02/2024 05:59

Obeast · 26/02/2024 10:28

@saltinesandcoffeecups @Newsenmum there is never a reason to quote the original post. It clogs up the thread and irritates everyone.
Simply type @ and the OPs username will pop up if you feel the need to tag them.

Oh yeah I’d never do that. I meant how do you quote just bits of someone else’s post?

Newsenmum · 29/02/2024 06:00

FluffyToesMeow · 29/02/2024 05:42

It's SO cringy

I used to think this but if you don’t start it you get loads of threads saying ohhhh I’ve seen you’re new are you a troll? Because people check their other posts 🙄

I hate the troll hunters too

Newsenmum · 29/02/2024 05:59

You have to copy and paste. And put the copied bits kn quote marks or bold to save confusion.

Or a list of 50 names each with its own line. Do they copy them faithfully from their handwritten book of weird MN names? They're nearly always terrible.

I hope I'm forgiven for quoting another post as it's only a short one...

RampantIvy · 29/02/2024 07:36

Whataboutery.

Often used on threads about family sizes.

OP: I have 25 children because I love being pregnant

Reply: The planet is doomed

OP: what about child free people who drive big cars and jet off somewhere every weekend?

sammylady37 · 29/02/2024 08:14

People who accuse the op of lying about something the accuser couldn’t possibly know is false- in my case, I had a post that included details about a journey, which could be done in two ways- the short option was by road and ferry, which took about 25 minutes, the long way was entirely by road, which took about an hour, and was the only option every night as the ferry didn’t run after 8pm. Taxis generally refused to go the long way round, so you either had to drive yourself or stay over. Well, so many people said this was an impossible scenario, it didn’t make sense logistically, ferries didn’t stop for the nighttime, taxis couldn’t refuse a fare etc etc and accused me of lying. When I pointed out that I knew the local transport arrangements better than strangers who didn’t even know what country I was in (not U.K. based) I was met with scorn and more disbelief. Unreal!

It really shows how some people have no imagination beyond their own limited experience.

I'm always really aware when I respond that the response I'm giving is purely based upon my own experience and recognise that might not be applicable to someone else.

Other people seem to think that their experience is the experience and somehow forms objective fact.

CruCru · 29/02/2024 10:15

I get cross when someone who is having a hard time, and is clearly rather poor, is told that they need intensive therapy. Who will pay for it? If you are a danger to yourself or others, you may get sectioned (which will be horrible) but Freud-style analysis isn’t going to be cheap.

There was a thread (years ago) where someone was going on holiday but their brother had just announced his surprise wedding at the same time. A load of people said to make it a two centre holiday … which the OP couldn’t afford.

Ratherstandonacliffandsetfiretomyself · 29/02/2024 10:18

@CruCru therapy is still available on the NHS. (FWIW Freud style analysis is also useless in modern times)

CruCru · 29/02/2024 10:25

Depends where you are.

RampantIvy · 29/02/2024 10:25

I agree @sammylady37.

Posters who live in London or large cities with excellent public transport are incredulous that others might only have buses three times a day or that Uber doesn't operate in rural areas.

KeepSmiling89 · 29/02/2024 10:28

Don't know if this has been said, but people who post saying they chose such a unique name for their child who then finds out that someone who lives in the same village/town/city/the world has also picked that name for their child. How dare they steal that name!

Even worse when they don't say what the name is - it's probably not that unique!

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 28/02/2024 19:46

When someone says that husband is horrible to them but he is a good dad.

My own solicitor said this to me about my emotionally abusive and controlling ex. "He might've been a sh*t husband but he wasn't necessarily a bad dad"
The frustrating thing is that he's not! He just refuses to go out and get a job and expected me to be the sole breadwinner of the house! Anyway, I digress!

crumbledog · 29/02/2024 12:06

Asking for a nickname for Robert, Charlotte, Barbara, Whatever in baby names.
Aren't nicknames something that evolve due to a particular event in that individuals life, or personality quirk. Not something you can decide pre birth ?

TheShellBeach · 29/02/2024 12:12

Posts on the baby names threads about middle names.

Nobody knows another person's middle name. It's just irrelevant.

Whycantiwinmillionsandsquillions · 29/02/2024 13:04

I’m waiting for the Mother’s Day posts.
The ones where a posters stated that they spent Mother’s Day caring for their sick screaming toddler and got sod all for Mother’s Day, not even a card.
That they had to look after their child and cook and do all the grunt work whilst their oh sodded off enjoying themselves doing whatever they choose (cycling/golfing/drinking-you name it.) The oh then came in hours later to ask “What’s for dinner?
Poster says she is pissed off.
Cue other posters telling her she is an ungrateful bastard. Their child is dead and so is their mother. So too is their husband, in fact every member of their family is dead, and so are all their friends. The op should think about that and stop being ungrateful.
