Confronted man at drive through?

So I wanted a coffee and decided to drive now to McDonald’s. Did my order and I’m waiting behind another car who is taking ages.

Car comes up behind me and starts loudly revving his engine at me and then holds his horn down after waiting maybe 3 minutes. The car in front of me is around the bend so not visible to him but you’d think common sense would have told him that.

He then gets out of his car and storms by and looks around the corner and obviously sees the car, waits a few seconds and walks back. Had my window down anyway so I asked him - why did you feel the need to beep at me, it’s pretty obvious I’m waiting to move too. And his response was - calm down and he stormed back to his car and made a big show of each time I moved to the next window that he was as close as possible behind me.

Probably a none event and I’m not confrontational at all but how aggressive he was to me for literally doing nothing really annoyed me.

Was I being unreasonable to have said anything or should I have let it go?

No, you didn’t say anything wrong! Impatient twat!

Pigeonqueen · 25/02/2024 21:20

I think there are a lot of aggressive and potentially dangerous people around at the moment so whilst I can see why you said something, personally I wouldn’t have.

AffIt · 25/02/2024 21:21

The combination of fast food and high blood pressure will get him in the end. Worry not, OP.

Mnk711 · 25/02/2024 21:22

Yabu because these kind of people are the kind that assault and murder people in a rage. Better to have kept quiet. Yanbu to have been annoyed though, what a twat.

MeridianB · 25/02/2024 21:23

What a pig. I really hope he’s not a parent.

Dacadactyl · 25/02/2024 21:25

When he dies, no one will give a shit about him.

Blakessevenrideagain · 25/02/2024 21:25

I would have squirted my windscreen washers as I pulled away..🤣

Rosestulips · 25/02/2024 21:26

What an Idiot he was!

I’m so wary of saying stuff to clearly unhinged people though. There was a tragic incident in our region a couple of years ago.

People in cars are similar to those online, they wouldn’t dare behave the way they do behind the safety of their screens if you saw them in person

I love this !

bradpittsbathwater · 25/02/2024 21:27

I use to confront people like this but my DH says you never know what people are capable of. It's not worth the risk. They will always be cunts whether you call them out or not.

Talkcarl · 25/02/2024 21:32

He thought YOU needed to calm down?! 😂

No this is why I don’t usually say anything but this is one of the rare times I did.

When I thought about it I wish I’d said - sir, you’re the one beeping your horn over a cheeseburger.

I was just about to say this too. Problem is, he thinks he is being reasonable. Very angry/aggressive people don't see that they are in the wrong which is why he said calm down to you to justify his own behaviour. Some people are very strange and scary!

LadyKenya · 25/02/2024 21:45

No, I would never think that it is a good idea to verbally challenge someone stomping around like that. I have no desire to give someone acting in such a manner the slightest opportunity to vent their frustration on me.

xILikeJamx · 26/02/2024 16:00

There's an urban myth about this kind of thing happening.

After arsehole acts the arsehole, when you get to the first window pay for your order and tell the person that you're also paying for the car behind. You then get both receipts. Drive to the second window, show both receipts, collect both orders and drive off.

I'd love to think this would work!

DottyLottieLou · 26/02/2024 16:07

Trust in Karma 😄

Shadylady52 · 26/02/2024 16:09

Should have made him wait even longer. I'd have crawled along

Vonesk · 26/02/2024 16:10

Im sorry this happened to you.
Keep in mind theres idiots out there who will quite happily st you rather than apologise.
Its worth remembering as its better to be a Live person who backed down, rather than a brave corpse .. your family and friends will be glad you
backed down. Keep petty squabbles among friends, its much more satisfying, than with random strangers who just might have been released from secure accommodation or coukd be high on drugs

Grah · 26/02/2024 16:11

I think I'd have kept putting the car in reverse and moving back slightly everytime he got close behind.
