Confronted man at drive through?

So I wanted a coffee and decided to drive now to McDonald’s. Did my order and I’m waiting behind another car who is taking ages.

Car comes up behind me and starts loudly revving his engine at me and then holds his horn down after waiting maybe 3 minutes. The car in front of me is around the bend so not visible to him but you’d think common sense would have told him that.

He then gets out of his car and storms by and looks around the corner and obviously sees the car, waits a few seconds and walks back. Had my window down anyway so I asked him - why did you feel the need to beep at me, it’s pretty obvious I’m waiting to move too. And his response was - calm down and he stormed back to his car and made a big show of each time I moved to the next window that he was as close as possible behind me.

Probably a none event and I’m not confrontational at all but how aggressive he was to me for literally doing nothing really annoyed me.

Was I being unreasonable to have said anything or should I have let it go?

There's an urban myth about this kind of thing happening.

After arsehole acts the arsehole, when you get to the first window pay for your order and tell the person that you're also paying for the car behind. You then get both receipts. Drive to the second window, show both receipts, collect both orders and drive off.

I'd love to think this would work!

So you pay for food that you don't want? Yeah, that will really show him! 😐

Yes
Because then cockwomble has to drive round the drive-thru AGAIN to order his food!

LinaLouLa · 26/02/2024 16:18

I'd have gone extra slow after that 🤷‍♀️

I use to confront people like this but my DH says you never know what people are capable of. It's not worth the risk. They will always be cunts whether you call them out or not.

Yes, I responded loudly and forcefully once and the bloke backed off - t that was 20 years ago and I wouldn’t do it now. I’ve drilled into DS23 that he should not respond if he faces something like this.

BMW6 · 26/02/2024 16:21

I expect he was embarrassed when he saw that there was a car in front of you and realised he'd made an absolute tit of himself.

That's why he told YOU to calm down - he knew HE should have!

What a twerp 😁

rwalker · 26/02/2024 16:22

He was an impatient twat but logically it wasn’t an unreasonable assumption

I wouldn’t of said anything

Redlarge · 26/02/2024 16:23

Im the first to argue back at people like this. But like PP have said, be careful
I dont scare easily and pushed it too far with an aggressive man who started on me because he nearly drove into my parked stationary car.
When i pointed out that he was the problem, he started showing his teeth at me and fronting me to my face. I pushed his head away from coming in my window and closed it, but he looked like he was going to bite my face. Stupid twat. They are vile bullies... how embarrassing over a mcdonalds.
Im definitely using the washer trick ha.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 26/02/2024 16:23

You were definitely NBU. I'd likely have reacted same way in the past. Tbh I've seen so many aggressive men behaving dangerously I'd just stop my car completely and go and tell the manager of resteraunt to take action or I wouldn't move. These people are not worth approaching yourself, sadly.

Grah · 26/02/2024 16:11

I think I'd have kept putting the car in reverse and moving back slightly everytime he got close behind.

Dont do this. If you hit them and you are reversing you are at fault.

I wouldn't hit them, I've got a reversing camera. Just go back enough to make them stop. I do the same in people who queue right up my backside at the supermarket. Stepped back on lots of feet in my time. They soon move back.

celticprincess · 26/02/2024 16:32

I bet he’s a tailgater as well. I’m sick of those cars. I'm doing 50 on a 50 dual (speed down from 70 due to safety of road). I'm in the right lane as I'm passing/overtaking slower traffic jn the left lane. Next thing I've got some idiot right up my rear, revving. I move over when it is safe to do so ams he passes me clearly doing more than the speed limit.

He's probably also a red light jumper. Roundabout near us has lights and when you pull out on green you always have to slow because several cars haven't made it over the gap because they clearly went through red.

Someone stuck their fingers up and me and beeped as i went round another roundabout. I had right of way, nothing coming from my right but this car on the left decided he had right of way to pull out his exit.

Iheartmysmart · 26/02/2024 16:32

So many impatient idiots around at the moment. I was sat a traffic lights once at some roadworks, was in my camper van so high up and could see the road ahead quite clearly. The lights changed to green my end so I pulled off but a little scrote coming the opposite way decided to overtake the waiting cars in front of him and jump the lights his end. He was a bit shocked to come face to face with me on the bend. Needless to say I wasn’t giving way so he had to reverse back down the road to the very end of the queue while all the other drivers gave him slow handclaps and tooted their horns.

TheWelshposter · 26/02/2024 16:35

With men like this I always figure that one day they'll do it to the wrong person and karma will get them.

BristolBorn · 26/02/2024 16:37

WeeOrcadian · 26/02/2024 16:14

Yes
Because then cockwomble has to drive round the drive-thru AGAIN to order his food!

Or more likely just rage and spit bile at the poor minimum wage employee that has to deal with him and get his order ‘right now!’.

I wouldn’t have said anything op but I might not have been able to hide a smirk.

Hereyoume · 26/02/2024 16:44

They walk amongst us OP!

He probably felt like a right twat though, having to do the walk of shame past your car. 😂

rwalker · 26/02/2024 16:44

The fact he got out of the car to look does really indicate that it wasn’t obvious there was a car round the corner

Ergh i cant stand those people... no idea of personal space 🤢

The combination of fast food and high blood pressure will get him in the end. Worry not, OP.

So true!

I wouldn’t normally say something to someone so clearly unhinged.

But from inside the safety of my car, in a public and busy place like that? Sure!

Good on you.

Sorry, but of course it was obvious.

Why else would somebody not be moving in a queue at a drive through?

They could just be sitting there not moving for the fun of it. But logic dictates that it’s because there’s another vehicle in front of them.

ItsVeryHyacinthBucket · 26/02/2024 17:35

Up to you but I would have just laughed at him and then waggled my little finger at him before driving off!
