Confronted man at drive through?

So I wanted a coffee and decided to drive now to McDonald’s. Did my order and I’m waiting behind another car who is taking ages.

Car comes up behind me and starts loudly revving his engine at me and then holds his horn down after waiting maybe 3 minutes. The car in front of me is around the bend so not visible to him but you’d think common sense would have told him that.

He then gets out of his car and storms by and looks around the corner and obviously sees the car, waits a few seconds and walks back. Had my window down anyway so I asked him - why did you feel the need to beep at me, it’s pretty obvious I’m waiting to move too. And his response was - calm down and he stormed back to his car and made a big show of each time I moved to the next window that he was as close as possible behind me.

Probably a none event and I’m not confrontational at all but how aggressive he was to me for literally doing nothing really annoyed me.

Was I being unreasonable to have said anything or should I have let it go?

When I thought about it I wish I’d said - sir, you’re the one beeping your horn over a cheeseburger.

😂

what an absolute bellend. Stupid AND aggressive, what a fab combo. Feel sorry for the women in his life.

Gloriosaford · 26/02/2024 17:44

I would have wanted to, grab my baseball bat, smash his windscreen drag him out of his car and then set about him with the aforementioned weapon. Luckily I recognise that would be a bad move so I try to keep quiet (and of course I do not carry a baseball bat)

There's an urban myth about this kind of thing happening.

After arsehole acts the arsehole, when you get to the first window pay for your order and tell the person that you're also paying for the car behind. You then get both receipts. Drive to the second window, show both receipts, collect both orders and drive off.

I'd love to think this would work!

Umm. Until the person in the car behind just speaks to the person at the window when they are meant to pay?

Sorry, but I don't see how this is meant to work.

Best case scenario is you've paid for food you don't want and they've waited another 3 minutes to have their order made again.

SlumberDearMaid · 26/02/2024 17:35

Sorry, but of course it was obvious.

Why else would somebody not be moving in a queue at a drive through?

They could just be sitting there not moving for the fun of it. But logic dictates that it’s because there’s another vehicle in front of them.

I’m not disputing the guy was a dick and wrong
but
if it was that obvious he wouldn’t of had to get out
the car could of broken down

chiwwy · 26/02/2024 17:46

These fuckers are absolute cunts.

I had the same at some roadworks many years ago. I was stopped right by the Stop sign but this fucking couple in kept beeping their horn at me and screaming at me to go and making gestures to me.

I was a relatively new driver so I called over the worker and asked him am I right to wait, due to the couple shouting. He said yes I definitely had to wait and I couldn't even pass as the cones were blocking the road.

To this day I don't know what that couple were thinking. If it happened now I would get out of the car and ask them what the fuck they're doing but as a new driver I was anxious.

bonzaitree · 26/02/2024 17:48

Very strange man. Ignore. Hope you enjoyed your coffee! McDonald’s coffee is a hit in our house!

Yes but if you have that doubt, just get out of the car and look BEFORE holding down your horn at people and revving your car. It;s not like anyone was going anywhere.

IncompleteSenten · 26/02/2024 17:49

It would have been better to have given him a lovely smile and asked him if he'd lost something round the corner.

TesterPotQueen · 26/02/2024 17:49

In our house we have a 2 word phrase we say to each other to describe these types...it works every time to cheer us up and turn our aggravation into amusement...

It could’ve broken down. It could’ve been swarmed by an ant army. Or fallen into a black hole that prevented the OP from moving forward.

Or, much more likely, there was just a bog-standard queue of cars at the drive through.

In any of those scenarios, you just get get out of the car to go and check, rather than leaning on your car horn, and then getting out to confront the person patiently waiting (and only then noticing that she’s simply waiting for the car in front to complete their order and move on).

Pointshopgirl · 26/02/2024 17:55

I would say from personal experience of having similar encounters, it’s better to not engage at all with unhinged people like this, as tempting as it is to say something. Don’t give them the attention they clearly crave.

Wetblanket78 · 26/02/2024 17:58

No he was being a dick. I had this once in DB cars. Stuck in traffic not long after an accident had not long happened. It was obvious there was a police roadblock. But bloke behind us kept pipping his horn trying to get past us. As soon as he seen a gap he drove alongside us. Only to realise he couldn't get any further. He ended up spending longer than nessary waiting. Because he had lost his place in the queue.🤣🤣🤣Now that's karma

chaosmaker · 26/02/2024 18:00

I don't understand drive throughs

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 26/02/2024 18:00

Some men really lose their shit in motoring situations. At least twice now I have had men start on me thinking I was in the car alone, only to cower back and start apologising cravenly when the bloke in the passenger seat unfolds himself and gets out to see why his wife's being verbally abused. It's contemptible. They don't dare do this with other testicle owners.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 26/02/2024 18:01

*apologising cravenly TO THE HUSBAND, you understand, not me, because it's such an encroachment on his territory.

SilentlyCorrectingYourSpelling · 26/02/2024 18:02

He made a total fool of himself. Just quietly enjoy that fact.

...and? Beeping at a broken down car helps how???

Basilandmandarin · 26/02/2024 18:09

YANBU at all OP.

It’s usually inpatient arrogant men that behave like this.

I had it from a man when I was at a McDonalds drive through. One of those dual ones like the pic below. There was a car at each side, so I hung back and was waiting to pick the first one that became free and the idiot arsehole behind me kept beeping at me to move forward even though no one was behind him and we weren’t blocking anyone in the carpark.

Utter twats. They only like to intimidate and bully women.

The combination of fast food and high blood pressure will get him in the end. Worry not, OP.

Yep, let's hope he isn't driving at the time and so kills someone.

When he dies, no one will give a shit about him.

Based on one incident? We have no idea if he's the nicest guy in the world but this is a bad day. I was driving home 200 miles after sitting by my mothers bed when she died. I then had to dash home as I had a sick child and wanted to get back to her. I was exhausted, distressed and stopped for a coffee. A man pushed in front of me to join his friends who seemed to be a crowd of people (maybe 40) on a coach trip. Normally I'd have just thought he wanted to be with his friends and ignored it. On this occasion I loudly told him how rude he was, what I had been through that day, his friends all turned and looked at him like he was a monster, then I burst into tears. Maybe he thinks no one will give a shit about me when I die, he'd be wrong as my kids and GC care very much.

I wasn't reasonable that day but it was a bad day, he might be horrible or he might have had a bad day. Who knows? We certainly don't.
