I’ve inherited a very good knife and a little bit of money and I’ve used the knife today and it’s so sharp it’s life changing. It’s been a joy to chop everything and it’s made me wonder what I’m missing out on. What’s the thing you have that’s expensive but worth every penny?

We got a present of this plate type thing that you can put a pot just off the hob on. It’s amazing!! Also we have a good small knife for peeling and I love it!!

Interduty · 24/02/2024 18:30

Boiling water tap

BeanyBops · 24/02/2024 18:32

Didriksons winter coat. Has revolutionised my winter experience - I'm very rarely not warm, dry and protected from the wind! Such a game changer!

Dustsparkles · 24/02/2024 18:33

A lovely big comfortable sofa and good quality mattresses for all of us.
Also a decent dehumidifier - so good in winter

fabio12 · 24/02/2024 18:37

Walking boots that keep feet dry and warm all weathers - dog walking
Superking feather down duvet
Decent car after many cheap ones - now have a heated steering wheel which is bliss on sore cold fingers and the windscreen and back just magically de-ice almost at the touch of a button.

CherryRipe1 · 24/02/2024 19:03

Dehumidifier, air fryer, new fridge freezer, water filter, electric vegetable chopper.
I'm looking at getting a robo vac next.

CherryRipe1 · 24/02/2024 19:05

Should have said only the fridge freezer was an expensive item.

Lwg87 · 24/02/2024 19:05

Robot lawn mower, robot vacuum, washer dryer 👍

Whatistherightanswer · 24/02/2024 19:05

I love these suggestions. Thank you keep them coming. We have a robo hoover but we also have a very hairy dog so it’s constantly full of hair and texts all the time saying it’s stuck.

Please link to the electric veg chopper, sounds thrilling and terrifying in one go!

This was a good thread.

Airfryer has been a game changer in this house

Good quality thermos food and drink flasks. A bigger outlay but have saved a fortune.

Good quality windproof cyclist thermal layers. Keep me toasty dog walking.

Decent walking boots and proper wool thermal socks.

Not a physical thing but Appliance insurance. Worth it's weight in gold

Marlaysydney12 · 24/02/2024 19:11

In our new house we bought top of the range, efficient dishwasher and heat pump tumble dryer. Makes day to day so much easier, and def don't impact the bills to much.

Bookist · 24/02/2024 19:12

100% Hungarian Goose Down duvets. Like sleeping under a cloud.

Fortnightly Shellac. So nice knowing my nails always look immaculate.

Range Rover Vogue. I disapproved of these for many years, until we got one. OMG there's no other car like it.

xSideshowAuntSallyx · 24/02/2024 19:13

Decent kitchen knives. Which reminds me I must sharpen them, I've never actually sharpened them since I bought them 5 years ago.

I love cooking and baking so whilst certain things like knives were expensive they're worth every penny. I could never afford them now though, I bought them when we sold the marital home.

LondonQueen · 24/02/2024 19:16

A nice car
Good quality coats, hats and gloves
A good quality bag
Fine jewellery
The latest iPhone every 2 years, with a cheap sim only plan (50gb of 5G data but only £12 a month)
Good quality skincare
High quality cookware
A cleaner

dumpling123 · 24/02/2024 19:18

Robovac and heat pump tumble dryer have made a big difference here

therealcookiemonster · 24/02/2024 19:21

a really great mattress (hypnos) with an alpaca topper (no alpacas were harmed)
boiling water tap
a multi attachment mixer with blender/pasta making/chopper etc etc

DillDanding · 24/02/2024 19:23

Things we have that were worth the expense

Sage coffee machine
Quooker
Japanese knives
Ooni pizza oven
Solo stove fire pit
KitchenAid mixer, blender and food processor

Lightbulbspark · 24/02/2024 19:23

A sturdy, ceramic pot with an air tight lid for keeping MY favourite, most expensive tea bags in. When I lift the lid to take one out it audibly sighs for me and sends out a delicate fragrance to ready me for the cup that's to come.

Jeannne92 · 24/02/2024 19:24

Dyson hairdryer. DP bought it. It dries my hair in 4 minutes, and really nicely. But SO expensive.

outcrops · 24/02/2024 19:27

Do bought me a pair of le chameau wellies and they’ve changed my life. I walk the dog everyday in a really wet, muddy field and they’re totally waterproof, warm and comfortable. I’ve heard they last a long time too so I think cost per wear possibly better than cheaper ones

Omg, I have been getting biab for a few months now, lasts 3-4 weeks, much stronger than shellac and I love that nails always look nice!

Dotdashdottinghell · 24/02/2024 19:28

While it's lovely to have good quality things, I sometimes throw money at having lots of something instead, so I'm never scrabbling about looking fir things or wanting something that's in the wash. So lots of travel mugs, a few heated throws so there's on at my desk, one on the sofa etc.
Plus the loveliest pyjamas your budget allows, I bloody love good quality pyjamas.

lordhavedarcey · 24/02/2024 19:33

Not really a product, but laser hair removal. Proper laser as a proper clinic

Did I say laser hair removal?

Have 0 fanny hairs or underarm hairs, smooth legs all the time. Amazing stuff. It's been worth it's £££
