I’ve inherited a very good knife and a little bit of money and I’ve used the knife today and it’s so sharp it’s life changing. It’s been a joy to chop everything and it’s made me wonder what I’m missing out on. What’s the thing you have that’s expensive but worth every penny?

A decent coat. The one I’ve just bought cost over £100 but we spend a lot of time outdoors so it’s worth it!

Ilovemyshed · 24/02/2024 20:22

@pandachoochop. Even Fords have heated steering wheels now you know - higher spec models.

suki1964 · 24/02/2024 20:33

For me its a bit of luxury everywhere

A mattress that you just snuggle into
100% Egyptian cotton sheets and towels
Duck and goose down pillows and duvets
Solid wood furniture
Wool carpets
Natural fibre clothing whenever possible
Bone china and porcelain crockery
Good knives, as in good for you, I actually use a kitchen knife which you could shave a beard off for everything, from jointing a chicken, filleting a fish and carving a joint
Good saucepans , I prefer stainless steel with a double base but I have some cast iron casseroles which I wouldn't be without
Decent cars
Decent phones/laptops/tablets. Dont have to be the latest, but they have to be known well supported brands

Most of the above are well considered purchases but as Im getting older, Id rather buy something Ive needed to save up for rather then buy something to make do and buy twice

Didriksons winter coat. Has revolutionised my winter experience - I'm very rarely not warm, dry and protected from the wind! Such a game changer!

Yes , these coats are a game changer!

RM2013 · 24/02/2024 20:39

My car - the heated seats and steering wheel make me very happy

A sturdy, ceramic pot with an air tight lid for keeping MY favourite, most expensive tea bags in. When I lift the lid to take one out it audibly sighs for me and sends out a delicate fragrance to ready me for the cup that's to come.

😮

I wonder if I can store my chocolate buttons in one like that...

ancienticecream · 24/02/2024 20:44

Our kitchen knives (and bread knife!) are just fantastic. Spent a small fortune on them but absolutely worth it.

I have been toying with the idea of a robot lawnmower. We have a lot of grass and it goes a bit wild in summer.

I have a window cleaner if that counts! What a difference it makes with no hassle for me.

Not making life easier but 400 thread count or linen bed sheets. It makes getting into bed a real pleasure.

Do bought me a pair of le chameau wellies and they’ve changed my life. I walk the dog everyday in a really wet, muddy field and they’re totally waterproof, warm and comfortable. I’ve heard they last a long time too so I think cost per wear possibly better than cheaper ones

I've had a pair for 8 years of New England winters, and they are still going strong.

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 24/02/2024 20:50

Quooker
Niwaki secateurs
Henchman tripod ladder

Have had the Quooker for ages. The other two are recent purchases but I wish I'd bought them years ago.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 24/02/2024 20:53

Personal trainer. Someone who turns up and makes you do it.

I think everything else has been covered. More info about you would help

Davros · 24/02/2024 21:00

Sage tea maker
Black cabs
OXO biscuit barrels
Seasonal hospitality at Lord's

Merryoldgoat · 24/02/2024 21:06

I thought of this question literally today.

I got a Jo Malone diffuser for Christmas. It smells phenomenal, not artificial or acrid like the cheap ones.

I’d never have bought one until I got the gift but I will replace it when it runs out.

goingdownfighting · 24/02/2024 21:06

Contigo auto westloop flask. Only that specific one. I've bought countless for gifts and years on people are still using them.

Isabel Marant Nessah cross body bag. It's ruined bags for me as it's perfect and all my other more expensive bags don't get used as much.

My kenwood chef is good as new 12 years on and I use it at least twice a week.

North Face parka. It's the largest kids size and along with the Contigo has made football practice and matches for DSs so much more bearable. It's warm, waterproof and good as new 6 years on.

I've just come back from skiing and hired the most amazing boots. I skiied for hours every day and not an ache or pain. And they are step in and out too. Started a savings pot on Revolut for them!

Milsteen · 24/02/2024 21:09

Bamboo socks. Not particularly expensive but more than I used to pay on my supermarket socks! They are so much more comfortable. And don’t shrink in the tumble dryer.

goingdownfighting · 24/02/2024 21:11

Also converting to MagSafe/qi charging.

I have a MagSafe car charger holder, qi/magsafe charging station for phone, AirPods and watch, and MagSafe power bank. Qi charging cradles beside my workstations.

I now only plug in my iPad. Game changer.

VerbenaGirl · 24/02/2024 21:14

Agree with PP - boiling tap.

Wigtopia · 24/02/2024 21:16

French linen bed sheets, duvet cover and pillow cases from Soak and Sleep. Complete game changer.

semideponent · 24/02/2024 21:22

Loro Piana jacket. Lovely soft shell with cashmere lining and an insane number of convenient pockets. Best jacket buy ever (albeit my most expensive)

LunaTheCat · 24/02/2024 21:22

Reformer Pilates classes

Egyptian Cotton sheets

Quality nightwear… cotton
Comfortable shoes
Decent underwear

Hall84 · 24/02/2024 21:22

Ninja foodi. Barely use the oven any more.
Day to day I'm always short on time so things like buying chopped onion/lazy garlic/soffrito mix have been game changers for batch cooking.

NotaNorovirusFan · 24/02/2024 21:22

I bought me dd with eczema a Baavet and it really helped with her Night time itching. I ended up buying myself one too just because I loved the feeling of hers and I absolutely love it, I will never go back to a down duvet now!

iwafs · 24/02/2024 21:23

Bin liners thick enough that they will not rip and cause mess.

Chocolateorange11 · 24/02/2024 21:24
