I’ve inherited a very good knife and a little bit of money and I’ve used the knife today and it’s so sharp it’s life changing. It’s been a joy to chop everything and it’s made me wonder what I’m missing out on. What’s the thing you have that’s expensive but worth every penny?

DH has the early signs of arthritis in his hands, nothing cosmic, but he is aware of it.

My best purchase recently - a washing up bowl with a plug hole and plug. We do use the dishwasher daily, but our old saucepans have wooden handles so they need to be washed up. So he can do washing up and then empty the bowl without having to grip it and tip it.

And yes, when we get new saucepans they won't have wooden handles. They are over 40 years old but still going strong, so seems a waste of money to replace at the moment.

My house. I absolutely love it and it makes every aspect of my day to day life happier. Love my little garden, the tiny kitchen, the views from the windows and the blackbirds splashing in the bird bath. Every month on the day when my rent used to go out I do a little dance and count my blessings.

Rosscameasdoody · 24/02/2024 21:31

Good quality bedding. I discovered JustLinen online a few years ago and it puts great quality bedlinen within reach. Bloody love clean sheet day !!

Robot vacuum
Air fryer
Dyson airwrap

I went back and forth over buying each of these for months, thinking they were probably unnecessary and overpriced (even though I waited until there was an offer on to buy.) But wow, all total lifesavers! I wouldn't want to be without them now.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 24/02/2024 21:36

A yumbox lunchbox. Cost me £30. Is divided into sections which makes me fill it with fruit and veg and dip. Goes in the dishwasher every night. Got one for dd and it really motivates her to fill it herself.

For those recommending air fryers, can I ask a bit more? What are your go-to meals to make in these and how do they improve taste/time etc?

Contigo auto westloop flask. Only that specific one. I've bought countless for gifts and years on people are still using them.

Isabel Marant Nessah cross body bag. It's ruined bags for me as it's perfect and all my other more expensive bags don't get used as much.

My kenwood chef is good as new 12 years on and I use it at least twice a week.

North Face parka. It's the largest kids size and along with the Contigo has made football practice and matches for DSs so much more bearable. It's warm, waterproof and good as new 6 years on.

I've just come back from skiing and hired the most amazing boots. I skiied for hours every day and not an ache or pain. And they are step in and out too. Started a savings pot on Revolut for them!

Tell me more about those boots! Just got back from skiing and every year I have a boot battle !!!!

A good mattress and base (ViSpring), a 9 year VW Tiguan when renovating houses is perfect for all those tip runs and DIY purchases, a separate monitor for laptop, and of course, the air fryer!

Basically anything you can cook, you can cook it in an air fryer. Meat is more succulent, cooks in 2/3rds of the time, costs a lot less money. I have a large Ninja double drawer so can easily cook a decent roast meat in one, potatoes in the other.
Chips take 12-14 mins depending on type whitish no rewarding the oven.

Honestly , I didn’t want one but I can count on my hands how many times I’ve used the oven in the past 2 years (except for when we have lots of people over).

Jeannie88 · 24/02/2024 21:52

Ditto with double air fryer!

GnomeDePlume · 24/02/2024 21:56

Silk linings to wear with my gardening gloves. They keep my hands toasty warm and also stop my hands getting rubbed.

SantiagoSky · 24/02/2024 21:57

A pressure cooker
Glass microwave containers that can also go into the freezer and oven
A shaker to make salad sauce
High end kitchen appliances and washing machine
Electric toothbrush and good quality nail scissors
Robot lawnmover and a set of good pruning scissors and garden gloves
Fancy pedal electric bike that speeds up my daily commute

SantiagoSky · 24/02/2024 21:58

And one more: High quality oven gloves!

HeyMicky · 24/02/2024 22:02

Massive fuck off emperor size bed. Room for everyone for reading and snuggles, room for pets, space between me and DH, more sleep for everyone

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/02/2024 22:03

Panasonic Breadmaker
Ninja ZeroStick bakeware
Aveda Shampure

Amugwithoutahandle · 24/02/2024 22:07

It makes sense to pay a bit more for things you use every day:

  • excellent massive hairdryer
  • electric toothbrush
  • dishwasher
ehb102 · 24/02/2024 22:07

A concept 2 rower.

Good kitchen knives, the right knife rack and a sharpener that works for you.

egowise · 24/02/2024 22:08

Cleaner. And I will say it over and over again.

She is so wonderful. I don't think she has any idea of the help she is. When my son was in hospital she did a special thing in his bedroom with his favourite characters without even me knowing, just to cheer him up. She is a wonderful woman, and I would give up a lot before her.

Ninja duo airfryer

Expensive cat food, eldest has gone from a suddenly, scrawny and lethargic cat to healthly again, and full of kitten energy.

Instant pot. I just got one which is also an air Fryer. It air fries just fine..but decided I'm not an air Fryer fan. So will only use that function occasionally.

But u have always used a multi cooker. Ours.died recently so the instant pot was the best next choice.

I want to get one of those dish washing racks that stand over the sink..so you can leave them to dry and drip into the sink instead of leaving stagnant water on the draining board and freeing up space for pots etc.

Why don't you get a dishwasher? no space ?

Applesandpears23 · 24/02/2024 22:10

Heated airer to dry clothes.

Wexone · 24/02/2024 22:11

Cleaner best money ever spend and she also dies ironing costs me 100e a month but when I come home after she had been is heaven.

Containerhome · 24/02/2024 22:13

@Wexone we have one. But it's the landlords. It's really old and not working and he doesn't want to replace it. I don't mind really as I don't mind washing up

Withaddedlint · 24/02/2024 22:13

I'm not sure they're great if you're an expert skier but fine for reds and the odd black I reckon.
