Yet another one .... rapist ..before He even joined the force. WTAF is going on ?
You can't trust the very people that you are supposed to ! Add to that the failings of the police "force" dealing with Grace and Barnaby case recently and the awful disrespectful texts that we heard about .... and you just think what de hell is going on !! Unforgivable!

The police force are currently a national disgrace. I believe it is way too male dominated.

I will be insisting on female officers if I ever need their assistance.

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 22/02/2024 18:50

@ticktickticktickBOOM female officers aren't any better

TheWildWest · 22/02/2024 18:51

They hide behind their uniform and use it to their own advantage. I had the joys of working alongside the police for many years and never forget on my very first day when l was just 19 yrs old, a female colleague advising me to stay well clear of the male officers and l am so thankful l took her advice.

Female officers haven't raped and murdered women either.

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 22/02/2024 19:02

@QuestionableMouse true but I have a few horrible experiences with female officers while trying to escape an abusive relationship. The uniform seems to bring out the worst in people

TheChippendenSpook · 22/02/2024 19:05

Maybe we need a slag off the police topic, as there is a thread doing just that at least once a week 🙄

Feralgremlin · 22/02/2024 19:09

I’m not even sure if it’s the case that they hide behind their uniform or whether it’s because a career in the force attracts a certain type of person (likes the idea of the power and authority, and hero status the role gives them) and that those type of people are also more likely to commit certain crimes which stem from a desire for power and control

That's depressing

Blakessevenrideagain · 22/02/2024 19:10

It looks like they are so desperate to recruit. It's just bodies in uniform. My great uncles were all police officers after WWII. They would be utterly disgusted with todays force. I worked with a retired officer a few years ago. What he had in common with my uncles was that he was old school, wanted to contribute to society, and was honest and principled.

And yes this. It's very scary actually. I have been thinking a bit about societal breakdown lately. If it were to happen, we would be on our own - the police would not help.

This is exactly what I've been thinking of late...obviously there will be lovely officers, but I do think what you state is true. In that case though why don't they do more rigorous testing like psychometrics etc and background checks to chsnge the culture!

Murdering doctors and nurses are just as bad

ticktickticktickBOOM · 22/02/2024 19:24

er . . . maybe because police are paid to UPHOLD THE LAW???

They, above everybody else, should not be breaking and abusing it left right and centre.

Happens everywhere in the world though

unlikelychump · 22/02/2024 19:24

The police are the people. Unfortunately.

Absolutely... but if the media is anything to go by... bad apples and cultural breakdown is a heck of a lot more common in the police than murdering health professionals !

I think because when it comes to other careers it doesn’t happen so often. Lucy Letby for example, that’s not something that has occurred often in the nursing profession - there aren’t lots of nurses going around killing people, however there have been countless incidents of abuse, sexual assault, rape, racism, and general misogyny within the police force. It’s not a case of one person doing something wrong and then tarring the rest of the profession with the same brush, it is a well known and systemic problem within the police force. Ultimately if we can’t accept that then how are we ever going to resolve it?

HelloMiss · 22/02/2024 19:26

Health 'professionals' are just as corrupt

If we could have a week without reports coming out of yet another one raping, murdering or otherwise abusing women, sending racist and/or misogynistic items to a works/family and friends Whatsapp, ignoring the pleas for help from people (usually women) who then end up dead - or deliberately covering all of those up, that would be nice.

And it happens depressingly depressingly often. What do they want us to think?

Lessons will be learned...blah blah blah.

Just because someone on MN's hubby is in the police and he is nice, it doesn't change what is happening. No they're not all like that, but enough of them are like that to make it a big problem and it's eroding trust.

'If the media is anything to go by'

There you are... the media are a big part of the problem. So many polcoe officers go to work every day and do the job to the best of their ability you know.
