Random man moved my beach bag and towel from my sun lounger and chucked them on another one behind

I'm on holidays.
I arrived at the little beach early for a swim.
There are free sun loungers there for everyone to use, plenty were free.

I put my bag and towel (scrunched up)on a free sun lounger at the front, closest to the water, lay there for a bit and then went for a swim. The water is very close by.
While I was in the water, I saw a young woman, a middle aged woman and a middle aged man arrive by my sun lounger.
The 2 women lay down on two empty sun loungers next to mine.
The man hovered around for a bit, he was standing there beside my sun lounger, looked around and then chucked my bag and towel on to a different sun lounger behind mine. He made to put his stuff on my sun lounger.
I saw it all.
I got out of the water went up to him and gave him a piece of my mind. Loudly. People started looking. He denied it but I told him I was watching him.
He looked embarrassed.
The younger woman said something, don't know what but it wasn't 'sorry', and I told her not to make excuses for him.
They all looked mortified.
A girl on her own nearby looked over approvingly.

Was it necessary to shout and be aggresive in this situation? How did you now they spoke Russian, not, for example, Bulgarian/Serbian/Polish/Ukranian/Slovakian/Slovenian/Czech? All these languages sounds similar to British people. Sometimes even Portugese is sound like Russian

Off topic - but was so shocked when in Madeira at all the Russian visitors. Only to find they were local people speaking Portuguese?

I don't know - what is it with Russians. First they take Ukraine, and then the OP's sun lounger (having first evacuated her items to another sun lounger)

Brits abroad - just shout loudly and everyone will understand what you mean.🫣

I have met many Russians abroad and saw many similar behaviours on their behals- including ripping out someone's serving spoon at a buffet because they could not be arsed waiting in the queue to get their food, so went to the front to help themselves.

Brit shouting at Russian by the pool. Probably both wearing an AI wristband. Classy holiday 🤣

Op is not a Brit. Try reading the thread.

:/:

Nor was she by the pool. But good to slip in some sneering down at AI holidays Confused

Because no one would like to have their partner or parent shouted at over such a trivial thing.

Because it's uncouth.

Could be achieved in a better way.

Two wrongs don't make a right. ...

Maybe it will teach the whole family to behave decently, not like a bunch of cavemen just because they are on holiday- and Im sure the girl knows the dad is an ahole already.

I'm fairness if it's the beach and you are swimming early doors and by yourself the front lounger is often best from a perspective of watching your stuff

Sure. But if your not using the lounger then it's unreasonable to insist someone else can't use it. They are for people lounging on, not bag holders for people wanting to keep an eye on their stuff at the end of the day.mm

//

Agree. But to then take it upon yourself to move someone's stuff when they aren't likely to be long so you can disregard all the other loungers to take them that particular one, is moving into Twat Territory

Have you ever noticed how Brits behave on the holidays abroad? Something's telling me the answer will be "no". Bad behavior is not a sign of particular nation/race, but a particular person.

Isitautumnyet23 · 17/02/2024 13:54

As much as he was wrong to move it, why not just politely say ‘sorry its already in use and i’m here’. Im sure he would have apologised.

People were reserving them for hours when we went away this Summer, putting them down first thing, then rocking up at lunch. Perhaps he was just abit sick of that and thought you were doing the same.

He was wrong to move it with you in the pool, but you were wrong to shout as thats abit OTT for a sunlounger. Plus ruining other people’s holiday - why should anyone (especially children) witness you shouting round a pool?

Im not saying Brits behave great. But Russian tourists were some of the worst behaved (used to work in hotels for a few years) I have ever come across. Then, if you go to this type of resorts I believe OP was at, most tourists behave badly no matter the nationality.

Well, probably that's your experience. From my experience, Brits were the most entitled ones and worst behaved. Never had seen Russian or, for example, German tourists behaved badly (even though they are considered the worst offenders re sunlounges).

RadiatorHead · 17/02/2024 14:11

As long as you were just swimming then it’s ok to leave your stuff on the loungers. What’s not ok is to leave your stuff there at 6am and turn up at midday to use ‘your’ sunbed. I always move stuff if I need to. I’m not awkwardly standing around whilst a beach towel gets a suntan 😜😜

However, if your version of events if correct then I think it’s ok to leave your stuff there whilst you swim. Otherwise, where else would you leave it?

Sharptonguedwoman · 17/02/2024 14:13

I'd have been livid. It was deliberately poor behaviour by the man, why should anyone be polite or placatory?

Absolutely this.

So many posters still not actually reading the OP.

She was having an early am swim in the sea. Not the pool.

Not unreasonable to leave your things on a front row lounger so you can see your possessions while in the pool.

This is very different to reserving a bed by the pool then buggering off for lunch/the day.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 17/02/2024 14:26

Sorry that should read see your possessions while in the sea

Shortyp · 17/02/2024 14:29

Russians are arseholes. I don’t holiday where they go.

Wolfpa · 17/02/2024 14:32

Did everyone then stand up and clap as you got back in the pool?

I am calling bull on your story

Winter3000 · 17/02/2024 07:29

Yes he did.

I was pretty loud.
I was standing there with my hands on my hips, right up in his face.

Ewgh what bad manners.
I was on your side until you posted this.
I don't know why you couldn't be well mannered about this .
It doesn't matter what someone else has done, you can still choose to show that you have the better upbringing .
Shouting in someone's face, hands ons hips, says more about you than him imo.

Yeah I doubt it. That's not normally how it works, then the person, instead of realizing their own mistake focuses on what you did wrong. (Yelling, rude etc)
You know when someone turns the other cheek or gives a soft answer/rebuke how ashamed and embarrassed people normally feel. Because good behaviour shows up your bad behaviour even more. Whereas if you stoop to their level, that's what it is, you're on their level..

Where I come from we call that scrag behaviour.

Scrag? What an unpleasant thing to call someone.

YANBU for approaching him and expecting your sun lounger to be returned. YABVVU to be shouting and getting right up in his face over this. Politely pointing out that you were already using it and asking him to remove his stuff would be the correct way to handle it.
Learn to get in control of your emotions, there's nothing worse than aggressive people who fly off the handle at every minor issue.

Which could be easily achieved by being assertive, firm and polite.

Easily done.

No one said she should be placatory.
