Threatening Amazon email?

Atlasstars1 · 07/02/2024 15:22

I’ve been a loyal Amazon customer for years. Over the last 6 months I’ve had to report a number of missing parcels
as they keep being left on my doorstep which is on a the main road and not a safe place. Most parcels just get lifted round here as there are a lot of opportunistic thefts. I’ve updated Amazon on this so many times asking them to ensure they are not left on my
doorstep, but it still happens.
Following the latest missing parcel I received this today which reads as pretty threatening and as though I’m at fault? What should I reply? If anything? Or am I being unreasonable and just ignore?

The drivers always leave on doorsteps, don't they? What else do you expect them to do when they're pushed for time? You need to be in or use a locker.

Amazon are losing money because of you. They're a business so why should they keep refunding you when it's not them that messes up?

That’s not an OP issue, it’s an Amazon issue with their employees or sub contractors. If there’s a "safe space" option that has been provided, the OP has every right to expect that to be utilised. She’s met her obligations and is not at fault. It’s a QA issue at the point of delivery.

the issue of busy drivers with unrealistic delivery schedules is an issue; but not an issue for the OP. It’s an issue that Amazon and its drivers need to resolve.

Nice, honest letter from Amazon

If you know that is happening - then get next door etc to accept or re-direct to family firneds

Flatulence · 07/02/2024 21:04

Given that you know this is a problem, I don't understand why you don't choose for your parcels to be delivered to an Amazon locker or other pick up location.
You know parcels get pinched. You know drivers don't follow delivery instructions. The common sense thing to do is use a locker or pick up point.
Regardless of whose 'fault' it is, there's a clear and common sense solution to the problem: choose pick up delivery.

MartinsSpareCalculator · 07/02/2024 21:05

I mean they literally invite you to reply to the email if you think its wrong so why not just do that?

And why are you ignoring everyone suggesting you have your items delivered to a collection point or order them for delivery on a day you're home??

BachB · 07/02/2024 21:08

Amazon deliveries are the same for us (and we have a fair few as three adults in the house) - driver rarely knocks or rings now, just leaves parcel props up again the door. We live in a quiet street and a car is usually parked in front of the door, hiding the parcel so none have gone missing - which I still think is good going even under these circumstances.

I would either stop using Amazon or get parcels delivered to an Amazon locker as you live on a main road. Just leaving them on the doorstep and not bothering to knock/ring/look up the safe place seems to be the standard procedure now.

momonpurpose · 07/02/2024 21:10

I think if you can't use a Amazon locker maybe get a post office box. It's a pain to have to go pick up your packages but atleast you will actually get them

cherrycola1986 · 07/02/2024 21:16

I had this email too. I’ve been a loyal customer for years. This email really angered me too. I’ve now cancelled my Prime membership and not ordering from them again.

Moro93 · 07/02/2024 21:22

This will be really long but I’ve had the same issues with Amazon and now get my packages delivered to a locker.

The main issue is with the drivers, as even when
I’ve been at home they sometimes barely knock the door and leave within seconds, then say they couldn’t deliver the package even when no one is home.
Then other drivers will leave packages sitting outside my front door, which is also on a main road and people constantly walk by.

My delivery instructions are completely ignored by around 90% of drivers. I have instructions to deliver to a neighbour who is extended family, rarely happens.
I’ve even tried leaving a wheelie bin at the side of the door and saying leave the package in there, again ignored.

They also have a habit of mixing us up with the same number on another street as we’ve received packages for them before. I’ve called Amazon about this and they say ‘just keep the package or discard of it’. That’s likely happening to some of our orders too!

People saying to arrange deliveries for when you’re going to be at home only goes so far when Amazon have a habit of changing delivery days or orders getting delayed until hours later.

This is going to sound completely overdramatic but at one point I emailed Jeff Bezos’ email address. I never received an order at Christmas which was all presents for my kids and DH, totalling nearly £250. I don’t know what happened to the order, I just know I didn’t receive it. I contacted multiple times, was told at first to allow 48 hours in case it was just delayed and marked delivered by mistake. Phoned them, emailed them etc only to receive a similar email to you OP. I wasn’t even asking for a refund, I asked them to send a replacement order because I wanted the stuff! So I ended up contacting Jeff Bezos’ email (my DH still laughs about it) and actually got a reply a day later (from his assistant it said) who gave me a full refund and a gift card for the inconvenience! I then bought the presents from elsewhere because I didn’t trust getting them on time from Amazon after that.

Between this issue and charging extra for ads on Prime, I don’t think I’ll be renewing my membership this year.

HollyKnight · 07/02/2024 21:25

If you only order occasionally, just put your neighbour's address on it. Or stick a note on your door saying "leave parcels with no.8". Or have it delivered to your local post office, then go collect it when it's convenient.

I can understand their reasoning for not wanting to do business with you anymore. It doesn't matter that it's not actually your fault. From their point of view, the problem is selling to you is costing them money.

pootlin · 07/02/2024 21:27

There are ways around this, OP. You just want to keep saying ‘but this’ ‘but that’.

You can choose named day delivery.

You can ask them to put packages in a recycling bin or other bin you keep for parcels.

Shania7788 · 07/02/2024 21:31

4 missing parcels in 12 months doesn’t sound like that much so I’m surprised this email has been triggered.

What I would do is put signs on my door saying to take it to my neighbour, at eye height near the bell and also where they usually leave the parcel so they can’t take a photo without getting the sign in. My drivers usually leave mine behind a wheelie bin or big plant pot, would that be an option or would the thieves still have a snoop?

Zingy123 · 07/02/2024 21:31

The drivers only have a very limited amount of time and can't be faffing with going to neighbours houses. Get yourself a parcel box or use a locker. I work for RM and find it so frustrating when people order but aren't in when we try to deliver.

BungleandGeorge · 07/02/2024 21:32

The majority of drivers ignore my safe place and leave it on the front doorstep too OP. People are tripping over themselves to excuse it but actually it’s amazons fault if they ignore your delivery instructions. Their prices are no
longer as competitive, prime tv is not great. Delivery is worse than DPD, evri etc they’re going to lose customers. But tbh I think that’s probably no bad thing!

Butterdishy · 07/02/2024 21:32

Stop ordering stuff when you aren't home. FYI you can choose a delivery day with Amazon for most Prime items, so pick a day you are home.

Why are you ignoring my comments that I’ve already replied with the help of HELPFUL pp’s?
why are you ignoring my comments I don’t have a pick up locker near me?
why are you ignoring all the comments that you can’t pick a delivery day as they change them?!

Check yourself first 🙄

Amazon leave my parcels on the doorstep too, I work from home so I'm there when they come but they don't even knock half the time.

The only solution for you would be to collect them from a local parcel shop or if your neighbour is home and doesn't mind could you just have the parcels delivered to their address? I'd obviously ask them first though.

Atlasstars1 · 07/02/2024 21:35

Yawn. You can’t. “Next day delivery” normally leads to delays. And even when I’m at home they don’t ring the bell they just Chuck in on my doorstep! Issue isn’t delivery days, it’s Amazon not doing their job and safely delivering my order!

If amazon are so shit, just shop elsewhere. Honestly after the 4th missing parcel I'd have had enough. They're not to change for your sake.

Doris86 · 07/02/2024 21:36

To all those people blaming the OP and saying they can see where Amazon is coming from. Have you actually read the original post? She clearly said she has asked Amazon to deliver to her safe location rather than the doorstep, and they continue to ignore that request.

BungleandGeorge · 07/02/2024 21:37

Why? Surely they all just go back to the delivery office? I presume it’s Covid that has changed things and people are now expected to be home 24/7 because it certainly didn’t use to be expected! Most people are out at work, should they never order items?

HollyKnight · 07/02/2024 21:37

So the only option you have is to have your parcels delivered completely randomly?

existentialpain · 07/02/2024 21:40

I find prime next day delivery very reliable. Items nearly always turn up on the specified day in my experience.

This just isn't fair. Amazon left a brand new phone on our doorstep, in obvious packaging, when we were home!! Only spotted it because DH was going out shortly after. I reported it, because I figured they must be in cahoots with the parcel thief. Maybe just crazy. Anyway, users have no way to prevent bad delivery driver behaviour except Amazon controlling them.

ThinWomansBrain · 07/02/2024 21:43

we had a spate of thefts from our block last year (now resolved) I had some stuff delivered to my hot desk office, but most of it to the local Waitrose or Co-op.
