Threatening Amazon email?

Atlasstars1 · 07/02/2024 15:22

I’ve been a loyal Amazon customer for years. Over the last 6 months I’ve had to report a number of missing parcels
as they keep being left on my doorstep which is on a the main road and not a safe place. Most parcels just get lifted round here as there are a lot of opportunistic thefts. I’ve updated Amazon on this so many times asking them to ensure they are not left on my
doorstep, but it still happens.
Following the latest missing parcel I received this today which reads as pretty threatening and as though I’m at fault? What should I reply? If anything? Or am I being unreasonable and just ignore?

get delivered to your neighbours address ie your name and their address 🤷‍♀️

moomoomoo27 · 07/02/2024 21:48

You can set "business hours" for your address on your Amazon account so they only try to deliver between the certain hours on the days you specify (i.e. when you're in). I have mine set to only deliver between 11am and 4pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays for example.

Londonrach1 · 07/02/2024 21:49

I had this once. I stopped ordering from Amazon for Abit and if I did I ordered to a locker ..it was sorted ...back to ordering to door and all ok. .tbh my house hidden from the road so none delivery I suspect I know what happened...new delivery person now..if parcels disappear again ill return to the locker again

Lifeomars · 07/02/2024 21:49

i live in a really rough area where they would knick anything that isn't nailed down. For this reason I order Amazon stuff so that it arrives when I am at home or I have it delivered to a pick up locker so I can get it if I am in town. Would not expect Amazon or indeed any other company to keep picking up the cost when there are other ways of arranging a delivery.

Zingy123 · 07/02/2024 21:50

@BungleandGeorge Why would you go to the trouble of ordering something knowing you are unlikely to be in when it's delivered? Why should we keep redelivering it until you are in. We have only been paid a set delivery fee.

PuppyMonkey · 07/02/2024 21:52

They have pick up lockers in places like supermarkets OP. Surely you occasionally go to supermarkets so this wouldn’t inconvenience you too much?

Otherwise it may be that you just have to not use Amazon any more. Shock

I find prime next day delivery very reliable. Items nearly always turn up on the specified day in my experience.

They very rarely do here. I’ve ordered from them and it’ll say ‘Next day if ordered within 2 hours’ or whatever. I’ve clicked to buy and it’ll then (and only then) say it will be the day after. Luckily, DH is retired and can nearly always be in but it is annoying if I say “I’m ordering this, it’s next day so it’ll be here tomorrow” then it changes to the day after and he may have to rearrange any plans.

Even luckier, my workplace has an Amazon locker, as does our local train station, 5 minutes walk so I used that last time.

Matronic6 · 07/02/2024 21:58

I'm astounded OP is getting so much grief. Amazon delivery is horrendous.

We have had a few problems with delivery in the last few months. Once the driver delivered the parcel at the front door to our apartment building. Outside the door, on a main road, with countless people walking past. Another time they left it with a neighbour but didn't tell us which neighbour. After contacting customer service several times to locate the 'delivered' package we had to go round and knock on every neighbours door. 23 knocks later we found it. Both packages could easily have lost and I would be furious if they tried to imply that it was actually me being dishonest.

MindfulCat · 07/02/2024 22:01

I wouldn't worry. I've had the same email and I still continued reporting any missing parcels. Nothing further came of it.

When you order something, it may say “3-5 working days to dispatch and 2-4 working days to arrive.” How on earth can you plan for that??

Atlasstars1 · 07/02/2024 15:43

Yes my alternative delivery option is my neighbour but their drivers seem to ignore this 🤷‍♀️

Have you actually changed the delivery address from your address to your neighbor’s address?
I think that’s the only way they’re going to get it right.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 07/02/2024 22:11

Change your delivery address to a pick up location or a convenient locker
Sometimes amazon drop and run, in my experience and tbh You can't expect a regular refund when you can do something about it
Anything urgent or costly I pick up which is more difficult for me

TheSilentSister · 07/02/2024 22:22

I'd just be cheeky and list your neighbour as the delivery address. Don't tell them and act surprised every time, lol.
I leave my front door open ajar when I go out and the drivers pop it in and close the front door. I admit there's an awful lot of trust there but I have a very vocal dog in the next room. They haven't got time to rob me anyway.
(This is very tongue in cheek......)

Put a big note on your door stating that parcel to be left with neighbour

CharlotteBog · 07/02/2024 22:25

Only read OP's posts.

It's clear you've been sent the message in error because you have provided a safe place and they're not attempting that. So, I'd try contacting them.

It's odd they don't even try ringing your door bell though. Do you get an email to say it's been delivered?
If your neighbour is as generous as you say then maybe you could just put her address as the main delivery one.

Maybe they get lots of chancers saying parcels have been lost, so when a certain threshold has been reached they look into it. This will sift out the chancers and the genuine customers (you).

Jumpingthruhoops · 07/02/2024 22:26

Atlasstars1 · 07/02/2024 15:47

Yes my neighbour is lovely and has no problem taking in a parcel for me but they don't even try her door!
I cant control the delivery day- it gives an estimate of delivery day and dispatch but that is all.

This is why, as others have said, you need to have your Amazon deliveries sent to a locker or parcel shop. They'll be delivered there and you can pick them up at your convenience. Voila! No more missing parcels.

baileybrosbuildingandloan · 07/02/2024 22:26

Use a locker. Problem solved.

teraculum29 · 07/02/2024 22:33

OP, is there really no drop off/pick up shop near you??

we had a few dodgy amazon drivers around and we start using near by shop, it's brilliant.
you can collect whenever you want within 1 week window.

tachetastic · 07/02/2024 22:34

Atlasstars1 · 07/02/2024 15:49

No not in my area sadly - would be great though!

Are you sure there are no lockers in your area? We live in the middle of nowhere in rural Devon, but the supermarket in the nearest town has Amazon lockers.

I totally sympathise with you though. I had an Amazon package delivered directly to my sister's house before Christmas and we were baffled as to how Amazon said it was delivered when they hadn't received it. In the end I convinced them to have a good look and they found it on the ground inside their back gate which is locked and over 7 foot high. Unless the delivery man was a professional basketball player he must have just thrown it over the gate hoping for the best and then marked it as delivered.

I guess a key issue is delivery drivers are being paid peanuts to deliver too many parcels in too short a period of time, and they can't afford to spend 10 minutes working out where to leave a parcel or, even worse, to come back the next day which eats into their ability to deliver other parcels.

BungleandGeorge · 07/02/2024 22:35

Zingy123 · 07/02/2024 21:50

People who work occasionally need to purchase items too 😆 or are you only allowed to buy things if you don’t need to leave the house? Given that the vast majority of items don’t give a specific delivery day and the vast majority of people need to leave the house, even if it’s for a short while to take children to school etc it’s bonkers to expect people to only order if they will be guaranteed to be in. That’s why you have the option of safe place, it’s the couriers responsibility to follow company policy. My original reply was to someone working for RM who literally just drop the parcels at the post office for collection whilst they collect the next lot of post! That system has been in place for years because it was rare that people worked at home etc

MixedCouple · 07/02/2024 22:38

Get a second address with secure soace or someone home.
If this is often then no they shouldn't keep refunding. You need to change things up one way or another. New delivery address or be home or have someone home. Maybe online shopping isn't right for your in your currently situation.

I have had many Amazon deliveries marked 'handed to resident' when I have found them dumped over the garden gate. I have tried to report that the delivery report is dishonest, but that I have found the package.

That isn't an option. Until they stop allowing this false reporting then packages are all too easy to steal

BungleandGeorge · 07/02/2024 22:38

Genuine question are the good Amazon drivers not getting paid then? The ones who do knock on your door and hand the parcel to you or knock on a neighbour or deliver to safe place? Or is it some of them just cutting corners? I try and give the good ones a positive review, hopefully they means they get a bonus!

wildernesssw · 07/02/2024 22:40

To make clear, they have been delivered while I am at home, and they haven't rung the doorbell.
