Threatening Amazon email?

Atlasstars1 · 07/02/2024 15:22

I’ve been a loyal Amazon customer for years. Over the last 6 months I’ve had to report a number of missing parcels
as they keep being left on my doorstep which is on a the main road and not a safe place. Most parcels just get lifted round here as there are a lot of opportunistic thefts. I’ve updated Amazon on this so many times asking them to ensure they are not left on my
doorstep, but it still happens.
Following the latest missing parcel I received this today which reads as pretty threatening and as though I’m at fault? What should I reply? If anything? Or am I being unreasonable and just ignore?

So you're not happy with Amazon's service? Then it's fine if they close your account.

TheTimeIsNowMaybeNow · 07/02/2024 22:43

They don't even bother knocking on the door anymore, I found mine behind the bin today and I've been in the house all day . Better than the other day when it was left sat on top of the bin for everyone to see

I have a ring door bell that shows the driver chucking in on my doorstep!

If you have a Ring doorbell, surely you can 'intercept' deliveries from wherever you are? That's what we do. Our notifications are set for when the bell is pressed and doorstep 'motion' (for when they don't press the bell, to still alert us that someone is there!)
As soon as we hear the notification on our phone we open the app, speak to the driver and tell him where to leave it. Job done!
Alternatively, if you're unable to intercept and they still leave it on the doorstep, immediately text your neighbour to pick it up... before someone else does!

Pussygaloregalapagos · 07/02/2024 22:47

Not threatening.

tachetastic · 07/02/2024 22:48

I was tidying my front garden a couple of weeks ago when I got a message that the courier had just tried to deliver the package and didn't receive an answer.

Erm, unless the delivery driver was a ninja that parked his van out of sight and then sneaked past me both ways without noticing the hairy 6 foot something 14 stone man in the front garden, that never happened! 🙄

What can you do? Come on Mumsnet and gripe I guess. 😂

Blueey · 07/02/2024 22:48

OP, what about asking your neighbour if you could use their address for delivery if they are usually home and don't mind taking your parcels anyway?

Blueey · 07/02/2024 22:48

OP, what about asking your neighbour if you could use their address for delivery if they are usually home and don't mind taking your parcels anyway?

In fairness, I am always happy to take in packages for neighbours, but I would not want them to start using my address for their deliveries. That would then feel like responsibility for their deliveries was now my problem.

Sidehustlequestion · 07/02/2024 22:52

Only a suggestion but can you put a sign up on your door saying, ‘please leave parcels and No__’ I know it’s not ideal when you have already completed the safe place but I work from home in a client facing role and often have to put a sign up saying ‘can’t come to door as with a client, please leave deliveries round the back’ and it has been very successful! I have it laminated and blue tak it on when needed with no problems, I know other neighbours have taped signs on or leave a sign in the window if possible. Not a solution to the driver issue but may help you get some parcels, it sounds very annoying

I had this email too. I’ve been a loyal customer for years. This email really angered me too. I’ve now cancelled my Prime membership and not ordering from them again.

This is the most sensible response.

Delphiniumandlupins · 07/02/2024 22:58

Amazon are at fault but you are the one not getting your goods and (potentially) out of pocket. However, they don't care. You do care so either you make changes or risk having your account closed.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 07/02/2024 22:59

Amazon are AWFUL here, they put the parcel on my doorstep, which is literally on the street, no yard etc. They knock, by the time i get to the door when i AM in, they're already driving off down the street! Absolutely never wait and make sure i'm actually in and got the parcel. Then when i look on the tracking info under my orders, it ALWAYS says "parcel handed to resident" bloody liars!

Eightfour · 07/02/2024 23:05

Atlasstars1 · 07/02/2024 21:33

Why are you ignoring my comments that I’ve already replied with the help of HELPFUL pp’s?
why are you ignoring my comments I don’t have a pick up locker near me?
why are you ignoring all the comments that you can’t pick a delivery day as they change them?!

Check yourself first 🙄

I don’t believe you don’t have 1 pick up point near you if you live in a city. In my town alone we have 20.

But still your posts come across like Amazon owes you a public service, they don’t. They are crap, vote with your feet. You will survive without Amazon 🙄

LemonySippet · 07/02/2024 23:07

You MUST have lockers near you OP, especially as you say you live in a city. I live in a rural village and have 2 sets of lockers within walking distance and a parcel shop too. They're everywhere.

laclochette · 07/02/2024 23:08

Reporting Amazon parcels as missing is a very common scam (because it triggers refunds so people do it to essentially get stuff for free).

Basically the number of times you've had to do this has been flagged on their system as potentially scammy. Hence the stern tone.

Not fair or course if you're the one whose parcels are being nicked, but they have no way of knowing that in this instance.

Ilovetea13 · 07/02/2024 23:20

Hey OP ,

I think that email is actually quite abrubt and they are pointing the blame at you making out its "suspicious".
Probably because they dont want to refund you.
I feel exactly the same towards Amazon!

I have my safe place as the "shed" if I'm not going to be in and NEVER is it left in the shed the amount of times I've come home and it's just there by my front door.
Even on days I'm in they don't even knock on they just throw it in my drive!

I would screenshot the page with your safe place to them and even upload the ring doorbell footage to prove the drivers have just dumped it in your driveway, they should be apologising to you not sending you patronising emails like that.

ebts · 07/02/2024 23:26

I have a similar problem with Yodel who ignore my designated safe place and continue to leave my parcels at my front door - even when I am in, they don't bother with ringing on my doorbell, just dump the package on my doorstep in full view of the street. On one occasion they placed it "under the doormat" which didn't hide it at all and looked rather ridiculous given that the parcel was 80cm × 40cm x 40cm! At least that one wasn't stolen.

TrishTrix · 07/02/2024 23:28

Amazon delivery is really problematic and I've pretty much stopped ordering from them as a result.

The couriers don't try to contact me to accept delivery, ignore the safe place instructions (a secure locked mailbox) and just chuck the parcels on the ground in the foyer.

Even the executive level complaints team are fucking useless "oh we are very sorry to hear about your issues" when I've emailed them for the fourth time in five weeks and provided CCTV footage of their driver studiously not using the entry phone to call me.

My issues have been going on for about 18months and I finally gave them up as a bad lot in early December.

WingsofRain · 07/02/2024 23:30

Not everyone can use Amazon lockers - if you are a wheelchair user you can often get a parcel delivered to a box out of your reach. They claim you can request a low box, but although you can request one, just like the “safe places”, they don’t actually pay any attention and you end up not being able to get the delivery.

Our local pickup point is a shop with no wheelchair access at all, so if I want to use Amazon it’s my house or nothing. I’m thankful that it’s rare anyone takes parcels from doorsteps here, but I do sympathise with the OP.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 07/02/2024 23:39

Will they deliver a lockbox to you (they have them for sale!)?

Viviennemary · 08/02/2024 00:05

If you aren't in when your parcels arrive and there is no safe place to leave them what would you like them to do. Their hands are tied.

PlipPlopChoo · 08/02/2024 00:08

Yes my neighbour is lovely and has no problem taking in a parcel for me but they don't even try her door

Put her number on the shipping address then.

Swizzlersandtwizzlers · 08/02/2024 00:54

Atlasstars1 · 07/02/2024 20:05

You REALLY don’t and you’re really being irrelevant to this post - it’s not about you!

I sympathise with you Op, some
of them don’t follow instructions. Don’t let Amazon get away with this.

The drivers in the area I lived before were great and would usually deliver to the concierge or to my apartment on the 5th floor. I’ve been working from home in my current flat since 2022 which doesn’t have a concierge so they need to deliver to my apartment but they don’t.

I’ve had a couple periods of sickness during these past few years which have been mainly bouts of bad chronic fatigue or covid so I wasn’t able to leave my apartment every day. Sometimes I even struggled to leave my bed. So unless my boyfriend was visiting mid-week I’d have to leave it down there for ages due to the fatigue.

The drivers insisted on leaving my parcels, no matter how big, heavy or expensive downstairs near the mailboxes.

I have definitely been in, as I get the notification when they deliver and I’m in my house 24/7 usually during the week. it’s just that they can’t be bothered to deliver to my flat on the third floor despite there being a lift available.

But it basically means my parcels are sometimes left for days as I can’t always get to it instantly. Our building management have a sign in the area saying “leave parcels at your own risk” as a warning to couriers so I’ll be sending a picture of that to Amazon if something goes missing.

So far nothing has been stolen but this reminds me that I should speak to Amazon about this again.

Hope you get resolved and they start delivering to your neighbour when you’re not in and refund you for the last two items. Personally, I don’t feel they have a leg to stand on given their couriers are not following your instructions.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 08/02/2024 00:57

Also not to be captain obvious… but if you have a delivery on a a day you’re not home AND your neighbor is amenable… why not just change the address to your neighbor’s?

Swizzlersandtwizzlers · 08/02/2024 01:02

It really is problematic @TrishTrix there are two entry doors in my flat building. some couriers will call me to request entry through the first one which gives them access to the mailbox area and then just immediately dump the stuff there.

And the latest one was a courier who actually requested to come through the second door which I seen him walked through in the video phone thing.

I waited and waited …But he never delivered to my apartment. I got a notification about 5 mins Later showing he had dumped it in the mail area.

Its a bit baffling but I can only imagine he wanted to come through the second door to use the toilet in the building reception area because I don’t understand where he went as he certainly didn’t come up to my floor. either that or he delivered to some other residents.

VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia · 08/02/2024 01:05

Put your Ring doorbell footage of the drivers dumping stuff on your step and throwing it on Dropbox.

Reply to that email with the links to the Ring footage and point out that their drivers are leaving the parcels in unsafe places.
