Taylor Swift tickets

WonderWoman17 · 07/02/2024 09:09

I realise this will be frowned upon by a lot of people but hear me out. I'm lucky enough to have been able to buy 4 very decent tickets to see Taylor Swift in August this year in London. I'm a big fan, the plan was to go with family, although the 'kids' are grown they enjoy her music and are happy to come along for the experience more than being fans.

The dilemma I have is that tickets are so rare and the tour seems to be such a phenomenon that people are willing to pay an extortionate amount for them. As a family that are struggling with cost of living and have a bit of debt, I find myself in the position on considering whether to advertise these tickets for way above what I paid for them (£190 a ticket). I have seen them advertised for as much as over £2k a ticket, and I find myself thinking if there is a parent out there that has the funds/means and motivation to want to pay £8k for these tickets, would I be an idiot for not selling them?

I think HS is actually not nearly as marketed as TS is

Why not?

The cognitive dissonance is SO strong, it's fucking mindblowing.

TheSpruce · 07/02/2024 17:43

I see that the thread got derailed by some pointless debate about who likes/doesn't like TS but bottom line is most resales will invalidate the tickets. So you're more likely to lose money than earn anything.

Exactly. He was the first solo male to be on the cover of Vogue, he's been cast in blockbuster films (once by his director then-girlfriend) despite having close to zero acting talent, and is selling out Wembley stadium this year. You couldn't move for coverage of his relationship when he was going out with Olivia Wilde.

I guess he's doing that all authentically though because he's got a northern accent and wears flares. And a penis obviously.

I could say the same to those not seeing how aggressively TS is marketed.

DemandingDivas · 07/02/2024 17:45

Re-selling tickets for profit, maybe one of the contributing factors why tickets sale are so high. Due to greed.

It's up to you if you sell them at huge profit.

The experience as family going to the concert and building memories is something special. It's the reason I'm taking my daughter to see Taylor Swift is for the experience and memory we're share. I remember all the gigs I went to with my dad and what a wonderful bonding experience that was.

Any examples or are you just going to repeat "aggressively marketed"?

TheSandHurtsMyFeelings · 07/02/2024 17:45

Explain it to me like I'm 5, then.

If TS is 'a product', why isn't HS?

Honestly, I see TS's face so many times a day, even though I don't follow anything directly linked to her. In contrast I see HS's face about twice a week, if that. TS is everywhere, HS is not everywhere, well at least in the media I consume. I don't like his music any more than hers, what I have heard of it anyway.

Edited

They are both products, TS is the most aggressively marketed product.
I have stated this already.

Yes, you've 'stated' a lot. You've explained or evidenced absolutely nothing.

CreatingChaos · 07/02/2024 18:04

I don’t really understand all this. Doesn’t Taylor Swift do a good job of publicising herself by releasing records and how she communicates with her fans? And who is causing cameras to pan to her, whether it is at a football match at the Grammys? Is it Taylor Swift TM organising this or some other mysterious body?

I am not a Taylor Swift fan. My daughter is the keen one. I just don’t understand this focus on how she is ‘marketed’?

She isn't actually unique in anything she does, lots of people write catchy relatable songs, lots of people look great on stage and at awards, lots of people make statements regarding rights etc, lots of positive female role models exist, lots of celebrities come across as decent humans, yet somehow people have been convinced that there is something extra special about her? Why? Well, essentially marketing, PR, and promotion have told us we should think that. Her parent's wealth has probably helped a little in that, at least to start with, though clearly she has her own wealth now! Anyone who speaks up in any way against her, or even just doesn't enjoy her music/understand the hype is told they are threatened by successful women or that they are anti-women - that it itself is a pretty powerful way to shut people down, other women included.

SchoolQuestionnaire · 07/02/2024 18:09

There are plenty of businesses and individuals selling tickets to make a living. I can’t get worked up about an individual doing the same thing. If you need the money and you can sell them crack on.

littlemousebigcheese · 07/02/2024 18:10

I'll buy them!!

She does things very intentionally. When she is photographed walking out of a restaurant in New York her team will have called the paps in and she will be dressed a certain way and with certain people to either send a message, to get people talking, or simply for exposure.

Cameras at awards shows and NFL games are less controlled. But her very attendance is an active choice that she wants that publicity. She is stoking the fire of it. Not a bad thing, but it's the truth, if she wanted to be more private she could be. Who knows ANYTHING about what Kate Winslet is up day to day? We don't, because she chooses a different lifestyle.

Blamethrower · 07/02/2024 18:11

I've got a ticket for the Foo Fighters and I really can't see myself going so I'll sell it on
But at the price I paid for it
If things were that tight money wise how did you afford them in the first place?

Unexpectedbaby · 07/02/2024 18:12

Don't be that person.

Fair enough sell if you need the money back but sell at face value. I think at most +10% on the price is maybe ok. But to sell for the amount people are is disgusting and greedy.

UnctuousUnicorns · 07/02/2024 18:23

" I remember all the gigs I went to with my dad and what a wonderful bonding experience that was."

That's lovely, really it is. But for me, my mum accompanied me to my first gig at twelve, then from thirteen onwards I was on my own, only to be picked up outside at the end. I think I'd have died of cringe if my mum or dad had been there, and I doubt they'd have wanted to either. Besides, I was trying my best to be a cool 80s teenager - parents didn't figure in that plan. 😅

PhoenixStarbeamer · 07/02/2024 18:25

Guarding mine with my life. It's your choice op.

kkloo · 07/02/2024 18:31

Pure dickhead behaviour.

I've sold loads of sought after things at cost price

Concert tickets/PS5/Euros tickets/Snow globe Elsa etc etc.

Sure that's what you were laughing at 😂

You are so transparent, mate.

Do you often refer to females as mate? Or just the ones you've decided to accuse?

Wasbedeudetetdas · 07/02/2024 23:05

Ktime · 07/02/2024 17:36

For 'marked as aggressively' = too successful a woman for your ego to handle.

As already stated I do not disagree that she's successfully marketed.
Me not buying into the hype is zero to do with ego (or any of the other ridiculous claims you've made).
Imagine idolising someone so much that you cannot accept when someone else doesn't....oh yes, some folk don't have to imagine that because they live it.

beguilingeyes · 08/02/2024 06:34

How many songs did The Spice Girls or Steps or any Pop Idol type ever write? None. See also Elvis Presley.
TS has written hundreds of songs. Quite a few for other people. A marketing team can't do that.
